POETRY RESPONSES
TODAY I chose the poem “Today” by Billy Collins. After reading this poem I question what exactly is the meaning, because it talks about how great is the weather and how it is the best day of his life but does that mean that we need to enjoy every day or does it mean that he just likes the day? One of my favorite parts is when the authors says “If ever there were a spring day so perfect” because it makes me realize that the day is perfect depending on you, it goes how you want it to go. The author has a strong happy tone while writing this poem because he describes it as paradise, like nothing can go wrong. I believe that before he wrote this poem some great news or actions got to him.
FAME IS A FICKLE FOOD I chose the poem “Fame is Fickle Food” by Emily Dickinson because everyone thinks the best life is fame, you have everything, but someone with a different opinion got my attention. It makes me realize not everything is like the movies show to us, the lack of privacy is sick and you have your job responsibilities plus your fans that you can’t let down. For example when Emily said “Whose crumbs the crows inspect” I can just imagine how hard can it be to have everyone making an opinion about your decisions and life choices.
FALL OF ICARUS I chose the “Landscape with the Fall of Icarus” by Williams Carlos Williams because it makes me understand that sometimes we get carried away while pursuing our dreams that we forget that there are boundaries and get into trouble. In the poem when the author says “ a splash quite unnoticed, this was Icarus drowning” makes me think that when people have goals they take control over everything in their power, that changes people, it makes you greedy and arrogant. Not everyone keeps up with that, so at the end you are alone and no one even bothers just as you did when you were busy with your goal.
MUTT I chose “Mutt” by Zarinah James because it standed out to me that she highlights the qualities of different regions of the world and unite them in a poem. For example, in the poem she talks about Africa, Cuba, the Cherokees, China and the Caribbean. This poem makes me feel united, and grateful for living in this beautiful planet. For example in line 3; “The color of Africa”, she means the diversity of things in one continent. We think the author message is that we are all different and in every culture, people and not the same, but we are all humans. A lesson that can be learned from this poem is that we have different cultures but came from the same origin and are special in our own ways. My favorite line is “If not, look closer” because it shows us that we have to open our eyes and be grateful for the beautiful things that Earth has and their influences on humans.
SURVIVOR I chose the poem “Survivor” by Marilyn Chin because it makes me feel grateful for living. It gives me the sensation she wrote the poem because of a previous experience, she was traumatized very young because in the poem she says “the survivor is almost always the youngest” like if that were her situation. One of my favorite lines is “Remember the survivor is not the most strongest or clever” because it has a double meaning, she refers that to get past difficult situations you don’t have to step on others for your success and that it is all mental depending how much you want something you can achieve it if you set your mind to the goal.

CREDO
I believe in the comeback of karma the effect of actions the consequences in life that every second in life has a purpose that behind every tear , smile, and action there is a story. But I don’t believe that you need everyone’s approval to be happy. I believe in love I believe in hope I believe in destiny, freedom, casualties, equallity And I believe in power of speaking your mind.

CONCRETE POEM
“For everything that you do in life you have a choice to make, two paths, the right and the wrong. that sounds dumb like every speach your parents give you, but they are right, for EVERYTHING you have to options: fight hard for it, the honest way or do it halfly done, not puting effort, letting go, or just not even trying at all. And you may think those choices only affect you, but you are wrong they affect everyone that cares about you because they will celebrate your triumph or help you stand up from you defeat.”

EKPHRASTIC POEM
According to Icarus
when he fell
it was fall
the climate was chilly
the sun was bright
and everything was perfect
the leaves
of the trees
kept falling down
there were ships
dancing with the waves
among the rocks
the sun was bright
shinier than ever
made everyone sweat
escaping prison
being so close to freedom
he got overwhelmed
he went down
waves splashed against rocks
but no one noticed Icarus.

MEMORIAL POEM 9/11
Every year on September 11
we remember our favorite twins
the twin towers
It was a tragedy,
they were not only twin buildings
also they were one of the biggest skyscrapers
in new york.
Only the ones responsible for the attack
know the reason why they did this horrible massacre
an uncountable number of lives were lost
all because of terrorism
It was early in the morning
people were arriving to work
and BOOM it sounds
the crash had just happened.
People cried as much as a newborn baby
it was a shocker the attack
it damaged the rest of the WORLD TRADE CENTER
7 buildings, 2 fell, 5 got damaged.
