Bayonetta
Time Played: 12/19/22 - 12/31/22
It ain't a merry Christmas and a happy new year without the world's most flamboyantly gay aunts...and what a time to get started on this series, in a post-Bayonetta 3 world. I've never touched these games, and let it be known, I'm not fantastic at them. But they certainly have their own merit beyond being "just another DMC wannabe", I'll give them that. Despite how raunchy Bayo can be at times, I find her rather endearing and relatable in a weird way. She laughs at danger in its face despite not really having a fully clear sense of why she needs to do what she's doing. But when she's got to do something, she does it in complete style. She works twin pistols in ways that would even make Dante's jaw drop in awe, but other weapons in this game did leave quite a bit to be desired. Though, I'll certainly say the Durga + Lt. Kilgore combo makes up for it in spades with how silly strong it is. Kicky missiles go brrrrrrrr.
The story goes...surprisingly deeper than I thought it would, too. I know that goes a bit off the rails later, but it's nice to see how well the foundation was set here for later on. And the references are quite silly too, but I love 'em. Never woulda expected a Fantasy Zone reference...and certainly not like *that*. Performance-wise...well, I played on Switch, so. It had its hiccups, but the game worked rather well all-in-all.
As for why I'm playing this series now? Well, isn't it obvious? I wanna see why these games are so beloved and why, in particular, the ending of Bayonetta 3 is so horridly viewed. Reckon I'll learn in short time...but that's a story for next year. <3
