Advantages and disadvantages of Microsoft dynamics 365 on-premise implementation?
Tumblr media
Microsoft Dynamics 365 solutions offers a variety of software products for end-to-end business management available both on-premises and in the cloud. the dynamics are developed in such a way that they deal with any and every function of the business process. Referred to as Local Business Data by Microsoft, on-premise is the “traditional” way to deploy software. This option allows users to host their Dynamics 365 software either on their own servers, or those of an IT partner.
The latest technology creates an opportunity to build customisations using native functions and move away from solutions that have relied on custom code. This immediately reduces the overhead of maintenance and simplifies the process in preparing for future updates.
Global enterprises are gradually moving their business applications to various online platforms. Businesses are, however, debating which deployment (in-cloud, on-premise, or as-hybrid) they should pick because each business-case is different and needs to be assessed, accordingly.
There are various aspects, including data security, system integrations, and access to critical information, among others, that businesses consider before deciding to opt any deployment for their business tools.
Advantages of having On-premise implementation:
Retain full ownership of business information
Additional investments to be made in existing hardware and IT infrastructure
Efficiently manage and control the updates related to applications
Ensures flexibility to employ internal IT professionals or outsource external IT support to manage installed applications
Generates business-focused intelligent reports, including SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS)
Storage options are fixed and therefore no need to worry about rising cloud storage costs later
More control over your data
More control over your ability to comply with local legislation
Perpetual licenses i.e. one-off upfront cost each user rather than a subscription
Disadvantages of on-premise implementation are:
Require extra IT support: If you decide you want to use on-premises storage, you’ll also need to have IT, staff, to maintain and manage your servers. This could mean you have to hire new staff members or devote more of your current staff’s time to maintaining the servers. This extra support can add to your costs and reduce the efficiency of your IT department as they will have increased responsibilities associated with the on-premises servers.
Adherence to industry compliance: If your Company operates within a regulated industry such as Finance or HealthCare, the responsibility to abide by the governing regulations will fall squarely on your Company as you are the owner and operator of the servers and on-premise storage. Compliance can require the attention of many employees, additional money for outside audits, and potential fines if the infrastructure is found to be out of compliance.
