there’s a level of ADAPTATION he’s not supposed to be used to, almost as natural as the ability to walk. one foot in front of the other, even paces. he’d blame it on instability, but a leopard can hide it’s spots in the right lights. in the right positions, the right camouflage, it can look like a different animal entirely. he could tell himself that he’s a changed animal, that the instability he’s adapted to ( and become comfortable in ) is circumstantial and a bid not to BURN in the sun. but, really, his instability has been orchestrated by him. he’s doesn’t necessarily run into danger, like the leopard chasing the gazelle, a trek he’s confident he’ll win should he not be outsmarted. in reality, it’s not just intelligence he has to contend with. it’s location, it’s time, it’s genetics. there are only SO MANY FACTORS that define whether he survives under the burning sun and he may be blind to some of them, but he’d like to think he wouldn’t push himself into the middle of the desert without an oasis. sometimes, he sees people who look like watering holes, unoccupied and safe. ( he can’t explain it ; perhaps it’s an empathy that he doesn’t understand, born by gutting his preconceptions and tearing them out like cobbled stones covered in dirt. the dirt below sighs, sizzles under the sun, but SURVIVES. ) he sees her, bold and seemingly uncaring, from across the room and realises he’s been in the sun for too long. ( it’s odd to approach strangers, he knows logically, but they never quite feel like strangers. as though he has a hyper awareness of who and what they are. ) “ hey. ” he’s twisting his form, hiding his spots in plain sight so they BLEND into his form. “ is this seat taken? ” @swtsvrndr

HIGH SOCIETY. the upper class, the aristocracy, those born with a silver spoon in their mouths. he doesn’t want to BE ONE OF THEM, a snake shedding it’s skin and it’s fangs for a quieter appearance. he’s tried to blend in because it’s necessary but not because it’s palatable. sometimes, he wonders how well he’s doing, how well he’s hiding his fangs inside his tight lipped smile. he knows he’s launching a robbery without a gun, a phantom of it stuffed inside his pocket for show. ( it’s a subtle suggestion that one day it may be more than simply theatrics. ) he tries not to dwell, because if he dwells he loses focus, makes mistakes. he remembers his mothers face when she found THEM ; covering up the murder of a monster. he’s not sure it’s guilt he carries, because he’s never felt guilty for ridding the world of a monster, but he carries something from that night. even if he can’t PUT IT TO WORDS. ( perhaps it’s the phantom again, suggesting that you can rebuild after an earthquake but it will NEVER be the same. a cataclysm that ruptures something inside him. ) that rupture has spread and healed over, nature reclaiming what once was man made. he’s been reduced to THE BARE MINERALS of his character, to who he stands with ( answer ; himself ) and what he stands for. ( answer ; something intangible. he’s not sure he stands for good, but he rejects abuse in all it’s forms. ) he’s stood beside ONE PERSON before, only one that he can wholeheartedly say he trusts. perhaps that’s why, when he’s scoping around the aristocracy and their penthouse boarding schools and notices the name monedero, he takes a chance. he’s reaching out for something, richer than old bannisters and grander than prize architecture. ( he doesn’t know much about architecture, but he knows the grand high ceilings feature heavily in the brochure before he even opens it. ) he may be putting himself in danger, reaching for the lump in his pocket that’s nothing but empty assurances before he feels the cold press of metal against his temple. ( he’s imagined it often, it almost feels familiar now. ) he strays down the hallway, finds a woman in a red jumpsuit and wonders if she still stands out in bold to everyone else. “ excuse me? ” worst case scenario, it’s the wrong name. ( he won’t dive into all the reasons that’s unpalatable now. ) @triggerboom

( dylan minnette, 22, he/him ) welcome to san francisco, GABRIEL MONEDERO. rumor has it they are a CAMBION, but only they could tell you the truth! when i close my eyes, i think of them and imagine STAINED GREY TSHIRTS, HUSHED CONVERSATIONS AND NEWSPAPER CLIPPINGS STUCK TO THE WALL.
gabriel is irati monedero’s younger brother. born three years after her, his father ( hector ) was thrilled to have a son. he took time to form gabriel in his image and until he was eleven, he didn’t see a problem with that approach or his father. he was very much a daddy’s boy.
he had a bit of a habit of walking above other people, probably a side effect of the fact he was spoiled with attention by his father, and as a kid, he took that out on strangers for the most part. his sister caught him bullying a girl when he was eleven and beat him to a bloody pulp.
his father became charmed with her for the display of violence, although she was apologetic. they became closer than before and gabriel came to stand against his father in time when he realised how brain washed he really was. they hatched a plan to kill him, although he wasn’t responsible for the dirty work. irati committed the deed, he covered it all up.
their mother died from the shock of finding them and he left with his sister on the run.
after having been on the run, they were found by an organisation that promised to give him a normal life if his sister left with them. she agreed and he was taken to a good family, as promised. he just did an EXCELLENT job of fucking that up.
he met victoria villalobos and quickly became entangled with her life and, by extension, the mafia. apparently, his brand is being manipulated by powerful older men as a would be soldier. because of this, he got close enough to get to know spades and see him, frankly, as the echoes of his father. he was in two minds about betraying him, as he never quite had the stomach his sister did and thought covering up a murder was a world away from a life of crime. but he still believed no one like that should be allowed to walk the world without consequence.
unfortunately, victoria found out about his loyalty problem before he decided against betraying spades, and decided to hold it over his head. he eventually had to quietly retreat as he knew he was no match for the literal mafia. ( and to be honest, victoria. )
he spent his time away getting in with the Bad Crowd tm that his past experiences should prove he really should’ve stayed away from.
he’s back in san francisco with renewed skills and a ticking time bomb of a plan to boot. the fact his sister is here? that would be a happy accident.
