“I’d love to stop watching TV, but you cancelled school!”
aka, YouTube series to binge when you’re stuck indoors and you’d like to learn a little something.
ART!
Lindsay Ellis’ entire YouTube channel. It’s like film school for people who can’t afford film school.
Here she is teaching you about film theory… via the Transformers movies.
Here she is talking about the ways the potrayals of various characters have changed and developed over the years.
It’s Lit! A series hosted by Lindsay Ellis in collaboration with PBS, about reading, writing, and the publishing industry.
Brows Held High. Half comedy reviews, half artistic and political analysis of “highbrow” films – often both at once.
Also he has talked about Shakespeare a LOT. Like, so much, you guys.
ThugNotes. Advertised as “classic literature, original gangster.” Sparky Sweets, PhD, summarizes and analyzes some books you may have heard of.
Terrible Writing Advice. Teaching you how to write by telling you how not to write.
Maven of the Eventide. A very nerdy goth lady reviews vampire-focused content, and has thus talked quite a lot about the history of the vampire genre and how it’s developed over the centuries. It’s so awesome. She also has really cute kids who show up sometimes!
SCIENCE!
Sexplanations. One very smart lady answers all your sex ed questions. Yes, even that one.
Tibees. A PhD student explains physics and math… in the style of Bob Ross, baking videos, and shitposts.
Cool Worlds. Videos about astronomy and space and other planets, for when you want to think about how small you are.
Minute Physics. Complicated scientific ideas, in short, easy to digest videos.
SciShow: Hank Green and friends tackle serious scientific queries, like, “Why don’t we just throw trash into volcanoes?”
HISTORY!
Ruining History. Shane Madej infodumps about salacious periods in history that were left out of the books. People have always been weird, y’all.
On that note: Puppet History! It’s a new one, but it’s a lot like Ruining History, but with puppets and songs, too.
BuzzFeed Unsolved: True Crime. If I get mysteriously murdered with no leads, Ryan and Shane are the only people allowed to talk about it.
Also Supernatural often has some interesting historical tidbits.
MISCELLANEOUS CRAP!
Adam Ruins Everything. One very earnest, very nerdy man annoys his friends and family by debunking common misconceptions about everything from chemistry to the TSA to the funeral industry.
Last Week Tonight. Comedy news program hosted by a sad British man in America. Depending on the episode, you might see him get in a jockstrap-related feud with Russel Crowe, troll the FCC with robocalls, or interview Edward Snowden. Constantly wastes HBO’s money on stupid shit. Always funny, always informative, and he hates Trump SO. GODDAMN. MUCH.
Defunctland. Our host Kevin gives us the rundown on theme park attractions, and sometimes whole parks, that don’t exist anymore – how they were developed, and why they ultimately shut down.
He also has a side-series about kids’ TV shows that don’t exist anymore.
And a miniseries about the works of Jim Henson.
Daily Moth. American news given in ASL, with full English transcripts.
Ali Abdaal. A Cambridge grad talks about life has a junior doctor, and how to study and work more effectively.
Feel free to add!

Brilliant!
I had an idea for a web series that’s sort of crafting how-to meets Welcome to Nightvale. It would be framed as crafting tutorials, presented by a cheerful, friendly mum type.
It would start out with things like “Sewing your own plague mask” and be a step-by-step guide to sewing your own corona mask with comments like “If you have older kids who are home from school, this is something you can do as a fun, family project,” and so on.
And there would be a few more things along these lines, like “Simple bread recipes for when the shops have been looted.”
But it would gradually get darker and darker in content. So that by ten or so episodes you have “Building a secure container to store your memories and records for when they find your bodies,” and, “Weapons you can make with common household objects.”
But the tone of the delivery would stay perfectly consistent throughout. The person in the videos would remain smiling and upbeat and, “Oh, isn’t this a fun idea.”
But the house around her would gradually change too. So for the first couple of videos it would be immaculately clean and tidy. Then it would get a bit messier. But then there would be scorch marks on the walls… and arcane symbols drawn in what looks like blood… until the house looks like something out of a horror movie, while the presenter is standing there in the middle of it all, smiling cheerfully and acting like there’s nothing whatsoever wrong.

To motivate people, you must understand them. To understand them, you must care about them enough to think about things from their point of view. Therefore, caring leaders are more effective than dominating leaders.

So, I’ve recently been reading a lot of humans are space orcs things/humans and aliens interactions/humans are adorable and the like, and I’ve never had anything to contribute until I sat down and blew bubbled in my parent’s faces last night Humans and Bubbles How would aliens react to a human blowing air into a hole of soapy liquid? Like, think about it. You can make bubbles almost anywhere, and for most everyone its adroable. So, from an alien’s perspective This space orc you invited on your crew- this hulking mass of pure terror, the creature that constantly risks its life for stupid reasons such as ‘pride’ or ‘honor’- whatever those words mean. This human is sitting there, in the bathroom, blowing bubbles everywhere. And you wont tell them to stop, why would you? They have the ability to kill you right then and there if they so pleased, right? They’re just standing there. Blowing bubbles. They warn you not to get too close, because they pop.  This horrifies you. Why cant you get close? What will happen when it pops? The human smiles, seemingly pleased with its ‘bubbles’ and begins popping them. You back away in fear, but the human doesn’t look injured. Infact, they look joyful! You try to pop one yourself, just to see what the human is experiencing. Instead, you get soap in your eye, and it stings like hell.  You scream, but the human waves it off and tells you to ‘wash it out’ whatever that means! You no longer bother the human or even go near them when they’re ‘blowing bubbles.’ The previous experience has scarred you enough, and made you fear the creature even more.  What speices willingly lets their offspring near this ‘bubble’ and even when it stings, even when the taste is terrible in your mouth and you cant get it out- they continue to enjoy this… ‘bubble blowing fun.’

Alien: so, human, your home planet looks like one typically associated with fossil fuels! That's really cool!
Burnadette: ehh, not really. Most hippies like me hate two things: oil and plastic
Alien: hhh?? Why? Those things are great!
Burnadette: yeah, well, most of our wars are fought over oil and gas. And despite having renewable energy sources, it's not profitable to the government, so they won't use it.
Alien: that's dumb, but understandable. What about plastic though, what could possibly be wrong with it? It's a perfect, light, long lasting building mater-
Burnadette: yeah we use it for single-use items
Alien:
Burnadette:
Alien: wh
Burnadette: like wrappers and take-out food
Alien: what's take ou-
Burnadette: there was this whole thing about plastic straws too. People drank with paper straws out of plastic cups for a few decades
Alien:
Burnadette:
Alien:
Burnadette: also we know how to recycle it but we burn it instead
Alien: YOU WHAT
Burnadette: yeah
Alien: THE MOST COVETED, LONG LASTING MATERIAL AND YOU USE IT FOR WRAPPERS AND THEN BURN IT
Bruce: for a few years we turned plastic into fidget spinners
Alien, grabbing a knife: HHHHHHHHH
