Alcohol tolerance by D&D species and class, as determined by explicitly defined game-mechanical traits:
Dwarves have enormous alcohol capacity, owing to their innate resistance to poison effects
Elves have no particular tolerance for alcohol, but their keen senses and atypical response to mind-altering effects allow them to convincingly fake lucidity – at least in front of anyone who isn’t an elf – right up until the point that they abruptly fall over
Halflings have no concept of alcohol as “liquid courage”, as their natural resistance to fear effects means they’re just Like That all the time
Dragonborn respond similarly to dwarves, but only the green ones (as their damage type resistance is dictated by scale colour, and the green ones resist poison); this sometimes leads to misunderstandings
Bards have no special resistance to alcohol, but their bardic inspiration class feature allows them to manipulate how quickly others get drunk
High-level fighters’ ability to selectively re-roll failed saving throws allows them to choose whether or not alcohol will get them drunk
Monks can get drunk just fine up until 10th level, at which point they become immune to poison and thus can’t get drunk at all
Paladins can use their class abilities to remove the effects of alcohol from others, but employing one’s god-given healing touch as a hangover cure is frowned upon by most orders
Draconic bloodline sorcerers can selectively become resistant to inebriation, but – as with dragonborn – only the green ones

A world where humans have no innate magic but our pets do.
Cat magic is pretty raw and they mainly use it for getting into places they’re not supposed to. They can be trained if you’re patient, and will sometimes do favours for their owners out if the blue, but only if they want to.
Dogs have been bred for specific magic over the centuries and each breed can do certain things. Showing off your magic is an essential part of a dog show.
Horses come in horse, pegasus, and unicorn, each with their own magical talents.
Fuck knows what birds can do, I don’t trust birds.

A dangerous thing, taking sides. I avoid it wherever possible.” (from Nylariel)
"An even more dangerous thing refusing to take sides when it is not possible to avoid it... As I'm sure you know." the seer mused and handed the star elf her cup of tea.
Although the newcomer hadn't revealed much of her background, he didn't even need to hone his divination skills to recognize a fellow caster of high elven magic; the sort that got him banned from Evermeet. No doubt she could tell the same about him; she went through a Mythal to reach his cave, after all; similar to the one she refused to cast before her hibernation. In many aspects, their stories had many things in common: both were fossils of another era, both saw the world changing too fast, slipping through their fingers like grains of sand; and both were disgraced in their homeland, for refusing to live up to standards and demands a million times older than they were. She slept it away to wake up confused and powerless countless years later. He abandoned the race who abandoned him, cut his soul up in pieces and sold it to all kinds of beings in exchange for power. It made no difference. In the end, they were both abandoned and alone.
"It's good to have a fellow spirit of the Feywild visit my humble abode. I have been waiting for you a long time now..." he said quietly. "We have a lot to discuss, my dear, so try to make yourself as comfortable as you can; this is going to be a long night."

"I don't know yet, but given the list of my enemies better be safe than sorry." the elf shrugged, stepping aside to invite the demon into the cave he'd called home since his exile. "I'd consider trading some pieces of my soul for power, but I'd like to know more about the terms and conditions applied in advance. I'm not a first-timer in this kind of dealings, you see." He pointed at a table and stone bench carved into the far end of the cave, for him to sit. "Tea?"

"Are you still in the market for soul trading?" (from C to Arioch @shame-of-the-eladrin )
"That depends, Darling. Exactly who are you trying to be rid of? And In trade for what?"

"Well, I did not make my haven wildly accessible for a reason." the elf muttered, pointing towards a nearby armchair and gesturing to his guest to sit. "I see. So, it is stories you wish to trade for my help. Good, but not good enough. I know who you are, Elric of Melniboné. And you will soon find out that I possess way more than just avid curiosity."
He stood up and started piling down several old tomes from a makeshift library. "I can indeed help you.".. he said "...but know that what you ask for is a temporary solution that will not solve your problem. There is only one plant like the one you describe that can restore your strength, but after a month of use it will render you its slave -and you do not want that, trust me. If you want my opinion, you need to take more drastic measures... which is why I believe you are not here to ask for a herbal remedy, are you. You do not come to seek the last living Selu-Taar of olde for something a mere Druid could provide you. You want to revive Stormbringer, don't you."
“I’m looking for someone whom people say can brew any cure.” (high time that Eladrin and Elric met)
C was not used to getting many visitors. Not that he was complaining about it. If he wanted a closer relationship with civilization he would have picked a more accessible location to spend his exile. A cave in the middle of a steep cliff looming over sharp rock and pitless, roaring sea wasn’t the definition of hospitality… It also meant that the few and far-between visitors that were willing to get through all that trouble to get there were desperate. Truly desperate.
So C didn’t even need to use his gift of foresight to know that this one wasn’t any different. He didn’t even bother to look up from his book or to turn to face the newcomer. It wasn’t like they were here because they wanted to see him. It was because they needed his help.
“Well. People exaggerate. They usually do.” he muttered, shrugging. “Come closer, don’t be afraid; the cave won’t collapse on you -yet- and I don’t bite unless provoked. Let’s hear it, then. What is it you need and why should I help you?”
