A Teen Female Football First
1.The main point of this article is to show the first female football player to win a prize in the football league. The main point is shown in the article when it says “Karlie Harman becomes the first girl to win a Washington, D.C., are Youth Football League”. The main point develops when it it starts talking about Karlie’s past experiences and what she had played before football. The article continues it’s development when it talks about the obstacles that faced Karlie, for example, being the only girl in the team. Finally the end development of the main point is when it talks about her future plans in opening her own athletic clothing company.
2. organisation: The article is well organised. It has short paragraphs that are divided into three parts, each with it’s own title. This made it easier of me to know exactly what they are going to talk about in each part. They gave good and short explanations for each topic. A weakness I would choose is that some information where a bit vague. It would have been good if they told us how she got in the team, and it would be even better if they quoted some things from Karlie
purpose The purpose of the article is to talk about Karlie’s achievement as a female in football. It informed us about this by telling us about how she successfully overcame her obstacles and the awards she won. It also tells us about how she strives for more by giving us her future plans in opening her company.
3. Who wrote this article? knowing who wrote this article will help us know if the article is a reliable source. If the article is written by someone who has good knowledge about this topic then the article will most likely be reliable.
How many people read this article? If the article has been viewed by many people then it shows that it is most likely a trusted source since an article that is trusted will have more views than an article that is not trusted.
4. This article is reliable because the writer showed that he/she had knowledge on the topic. The writer gave specific examples and also quoted some things from Karlie’s mother and couch, and this shows that the article has reliable information.

Social media
At first I was very insecure about doing this project. The thought of having all the grade 10 students (and possibly some other people) reading my prompts made me feel very worried because I’m the type of person who is always concerned about how other people think of me. After writing a few prompts I gained more confidence and I also realised that is was a great idea for a school project after all. I really benefited a lot by reading other prompts. Seeing different opinions helped me with understanding the novel better, and it also helped me think differently about some things. Using social media in writing prompts is a much better and easier way to share our ideas rather than just writing them on pieces of paper.
And to people who argue that social media only has negative things, I would like to show them this project that we did. I would argue by saying that students will gain better knowledge from social media when it used for educational proposes. We have limited time in class to have discussions about the novel, but using social media, we will be able to have these discussions even when we are at home.

I completely agree with everything you said. Using violence will never put and end to a fight and will only leave the people involved with bad feelings towards each other. Using words rather than fists will bring much better results, even if the people still do not agree with each other.
“"VIOLENCE CAN BE A REASONABLE RESPONE TO AN UNREASONABLE SITUATION.”
I totally and utterly disagree with this quote. When I’m arguing with my sister, I tell her at the end, fight fire with fire. I only use it when it comes to fighting with her, but really when you are having an argument and you use violence to end it, let me tell you my dear fellows there will no full spot to the argument. Why? Because if your both just shouting and using bad language, you are both alike and repulsion will occur. They say raise your words not your voice. In an argument there is always a person who agrees and one who opposes that, yah that’s normal, it’s an argument. One will try to convince the other that their point of view is better. How will you do that? By talking politely, but at the same time strengthen your words, and then the other person will think about it.
As my sister once told me, when there are two people in an argument, one hard as a rock and the other one soft as a mother’s love, the soft one will argue in a way which will make the hard one reduce it’s toughness. So let me get to my point here, using violence in an unreasonable situation can be accepted if and only if you have tried other methods and wasn’t successful, then you could use violence but rather in a good way. Otherwise if the person against you is not capable of fighting with words but rather with fists then that would be the reason why I disagree with this quote.

My opinion on Christopher and his parents.
I don’t have any bad feelings towards Christopher. Though I am disappointed with his decision to leave his father, I still understand why he did that considering the fact he has Asperger’s Syndrome. In my opinion, I think Christopher’s father is a really good father. He was the one who stayed with Christopher and took care of him alone even if it was very hard on him. Even if I think it was wrong that he lied to Christopher, I still understand his actions and I still think that he is a kind and caring father. In my opinion, Christopher’s mother is not a great mother. She left Christopher because she felt that it was too hard for her to raise him and she thought it would be better for them if she left. I don’t understand her reasoning and I do not sympathise with her situation because If Christopher’s father was able to take care of Christopher’s all alone, then I think that the mother was also capable of taking care of Christopher because she also had the father with her to help. I don’t think she is a bad person because she showed that she still cared about Christopher by sending him letters, but I still think that she did not do her job as a mother properly.

Article (The Piano Lesson)

It was interesting for me to read this article. I never thought that it was important to keep our family’s legacy, but from Bernice and this article, I could see how important it is.

Journal Entry (The Piano Lesson)
After our confrontation with Sutter’s ghost, I had mixed feelings. I was scared, relieved, and confused all at the same time. Before all this happenedI had thought that Sutter’s ghost was just Bernice’s illusion, but now after I saw him myself I feel very scared and surprised. I felt relieved that we were able to get rid of the ghost. I also feel relieved that we didn’t sell the piano. If it wasn’t for the piano we would not be able to get rid of Sutter’s ghost, it’s a really good thing that Bernice stopped me from selling it. I should have listened to Bernice the first time she told me not to sell the piano because now I really understand how important this piano is to our family, and that the best thing to do with the piano is to keep it with us.
If it wasn’t for Bernice Sutter’s ghost would still be around us and we won’t be able to get rid of him. I respect Bernice for her loyalty and her strong belief in our family’s legacy and I should learn from her.

I totally agree with what your saying. Violence is really never the answer. There are always better ways to deal with things and the example you gave about the Indians and the British explains this point well. I also agree with how you said that violence is a weak way for a person to force his authority or state his opinion.
“Violence can be a reasonable response to an unreasonable situation.“
I disagree with this saying, because I do not believe that violence is a way of solving anything, no matter what is it. I strongly believe that in any situation we might ever face in our lives, we should never use violence as an answer. When the British were in India, Gandhi told India not to fight them with violence, although it took a while but finally they convinced the English.
I have always seen violence as a weak way a person can use to force his authority, or state his opinion on someone. I believe that using words and logic is way more smarter and braver. Violence doesn’t make someone stronger, it just shows how weak they are in actually facing the truth. Some people say that when someone hits you, hit them back. I DO NOT think that this is a way in solving the problem, it is just a way to make it even worse that how it actually was.
In the Curious Incident of The Dog in The Night Time, where Christopher hit the police officer because he did not like it when the police man had touched him. And by that Christopher got into deep trouble just because he hit a police man. I do realize that Christopher has a special condition, but this example shows how violence is used to solve a situation. It also shows that violence that using violence doesn’t get you anywhere, it rather makes the problem even worse.
In conclusion I would say that I am totally against people who use violence as an answer. And like Gandhi said “I object to violence because when it appears to do good, the good is only temporary; the evil it does is permanent.”

Isolation
“Sometimes when I want to be on my own I get into the airing cupboard in the bathroom and slide in beside the boiler and pull the door behind me and sit there and think for hours and it makes me feel very calm.”
This shows that the best way for Christopher to solve problems is to isolate himself. He would much rather multiply numbers in his head or spend hours thinking than be around people.
“It was nice in the police cell”
This is not something you would usually hear from people. Christopher likes the police cell because he probably doesn’t understand that he is there because he caused trouble. He also likes the police cell because he would prefer to be in a room with no people.
“I think I would make a very good astronaut. To be a good astronaut you have to be intelligent and I’m intelligent. You also have to understand how machines work and I’m good at understanding how machines work. You also have to be someone who would like being on their own in a tiny space-craft thousands and thousands of miles away.”
I think that one of the reasons that Christopher wants to be an astronaut is that he they “have to be someone who would like being on their own in a tiny space-craft”. This shows that he would like to stay alone even when is working.
Christopher prefers to be alone, but knows he’s unable take care of himself on his own. Is there a contradiction here?
There is a contradiction. Even though he doesn’t like to be around people he still showed us a few times that he needs people’s help. Examples are the many conversations he had with Siobhan shows that he needs someone’s help to understand various things. Another example is when he said “I will get a lady to marry me and be my wife and she can look after me so I can have company and not be on my own.”, he really showed us here that he will always need someone to be with him even when he prefers to be alone.
Why is Christopher okay touching animals, but not humans?
To Christopher, animals are easier to deal with and he can understand them. He thinks that animals are simpler than humans, he said "I like dogs. You always know what a dog is thinking. It has four moods. Happy, sad, cross and concentrating. Also, dogs are faithful and they do not tell lies because they cannot talk.” He usually has a hard time understanding humans. This is why he would rather be with animals than humans who are too complicated for him to deal with.

“Violence can be a reasonable response to an unreasonable situation.”
I disagree with this statement. I do believe that there are always better solutions to solving a problem rather than physically or mentally harming someone. We usually react with violence because at that moment we think it will help us in solving a problem, also we react with violence because we sometimes we don’t think before we act which leads us to regretting our actions later on. An example of that is when Christopher’s father hit Christopher after he read the book. He responded with violence while probably thinking that Christopher will learn a lesson and stop what he was doing but that only ended up in having Christopher badly hurt.
I think that responding with violence will lead to bigger problems, because at times our reactions come out bigger than we intended so we end up hurting a person really badly. So thinking for other solutions that will only have good results instead of solutions that will lead to other consequences is a better idea.

Day, my mom is beautiful because I’m beautiful so of course I inherited it from her, I didn’t inherit it from my dad, cuz my dad is handsome, and that word is used to describe men, not women. Quote
There is no such thing as ‘normal’ when it comes to human beings.
Christopher - The Curious incident of the dog in the nighttime.
In my opinion, I disagree with Christopher. I think that although our feelings and lives may differ, there are certain characteristics that make us ,human, normal.
One thing that makes us normal ,in example, is our organs. Like having two kidneys, one heart, 2 arms, 10 toes, 10 fingers ,and so on. Also ,there are some characteristics of human beings that you can take as an average. For example, the average height and weight, or the average IQ.
In terms of the social and mental behavior, you can define “normal” as being “the average”. For instance, the average person goes to school for several years, works some kind of job when they grow up, engages in relationships with members of the opposite gender, and practices some form of organized religion. It still doesn’t mean that those who don’t do these things are wrong, they just don’t follow norms of human society.
(via elr-eem)
-----------------------------------
I do agree with you that “there are certain characteristics that make us,human, normal”, but don’t you think that we sometimes view people as ‘weird’ because of certain actions they do or because of certain things they like/dislike that completely differ from what we think? For example, when I tell people that I enjoy listening to kpop (Korean music) they give me that look and ask me “why do you listen to music that you don’t understand?”, on the other side I think it’s completely fine to enjoy music even if you don’t understand it. I’m not trying to say that since we are not ‘normal’ we all are ‘weird’ people, I’m trying to say that there no such thing as “normal’ actions for a person to make, or certain likes/dislike that are ‘normal’.

“There is no such thing as ‘normal’ when it comes to human being”
Christopher probably thinks this way because he has Asperger’s syndrome so he doesn’t understand people, but I still do agree with him. Maybe we all think of ourself as normal, but other people might not think that way about us. That’s because we all grew up in a different way and we are all used to different things. And because of that, the things that we think are normal might not be normal to other people. People might think of a us as ‘weird’ because we like/dislike certain things, or because we do some things differently than other people. So thats why I agree with Christopher that “there is no such thing as ‘normal’ when it comes to human beings”.
