I really hate automation in pet care.

My best friend messaged me awhile back to ask about robotic litter boxes and was shocked when I told her in earnest how much I hate them from personal experience. I told her about how they're only good for like 3 runs before they become so gummed up and how my cat was terrified of boxes with lids for months after he got stuck in one during a cycle (he wasn't my cat at the time. I would have NEVER trusted the robot poop box to begin with).

She ended up buying one.

Then she asked me about automatic feeders which I ALSO hate. Her point of view was that this Bluetooth, wifi enabled feeder would be able to provide for her cat if she had to go out of town. I hate hate HATE wifi enabled things that have no business being connected to the internet. The pros she gave me for it was that it was able to send her notifications in the event of malfunction. And when I posed the question of "what if there's no wifi?" She didn't have an answer.

Call me old fashioned, but I think having a friend or family member look in on your animals is better than trusting a corporation that's only in it for the profit.

Idk.

And yes, I am the same person who loves the shit out of Roombas. However, my Roomba is dumb as fuck and I love him for it. No wifi, no Bluetooth, requires manual maintenance daily. He's the best. And best of all, he won't map my home and tell amazon everything about me.
