Blog 07: Interdisciplinary Project
while my teammates were busy rendering I asked for some files to test out the final output as we needed to convert that Equirectangular 2:1 footage into a fisheye full dome footage so we could project that to a dome. based on the instruction manual sent by the university I made some adjustments to the angle and output frame size as our render was 4000x2000 resolution. render out a small animation that is compatible with the dome.
when we were done with the render one of my teammates did the full editing part as the file became so heavy in my system due to file size. and we are ready to check what we have made in the dome.

Blog 06: Interdisciplinary Project
in this blog, I am going to discuss how we combine all of our work into a single project. As everyone is working on their own part. when it merging the project was hard. The project came to my hand when everyone is already done with the combining. and I had to add all the fish to the timeline. as for the first 2 fishes, I export the alembic file and import that into the main scene.
and for the 3rd wave of fish, I made that with a particle system so I just append them into the main project.
after adding everything to the scene the 2d fish waves were looking a bit sloppy so I replaced the fish with 3D fishes from sketchfab. source link: https://sketchfab.com/3d-models/guppy-fish-21e14e4b961e406385539f79eacdb1dc
then I added a noise in the camera animation at the 1-minute mark to make the camera shake a little.
and pack all the resources and we were ready to render.

Blog 05: Interdisciplinary Project
in this blog, I am going to discuss the last fish horde I made which will be appearing in the last second before the monster attacks the submarine.
I used a Sketchfab asset and created the horde with a particle system.
asset used: https://sketchfab.com/3d-models/koi-fish-236859b809984f52b70c94fd040b9c59
I used the particle system to create a wave and controlled the trajectory and some craziness in the horde by adding force and vortex.
then bake the animation starting from frame 2700 as my animation needs to play from that frame.

Blog 04: Interdisciplinary Project
My teammate made a timeline for a 2-minute animation based on the story. In that sequence, we have 3 waves of fish that will be seen in the dome before the final monster shows up. as I already worked on one wave for the second wave I planned to make a shark rotating the dome. for that animation, I used a shark model from sketchfab. asset link: https://sketchfab.com/3d-models/model-54a-caribbean-reef-shark-210302e0e0e74c36834fb00aaa14c7c2
and used the follow-curve approach to make the shark rotate around the edges of the dome. to make it symmetric and to be seen from each angle made the animation half circle and created the animation from opposite starting points so wherever the used look they can have a peak of the shark.
I created a dome shape to establish the measurement and how it would look on the curved screen.
after that, I exported the animation as a .abc(alembic) file so we could use the file for the main project.

Blog 03: Interdisciplinary Project
While everyone was working on their own part my next job was to do some fish horde animation which will be floating in the ocean close to the submarine. in this blog, I will be discussing how I turn a 2d plane fish image into a horde of fish and animate it, and make it circle it around the submarine.
I used these 2 fish designed by my teammate:
I implanted the 2d image into a plane and added a wave modifier to animate it as it is floating in the water. then duplicate a bunch and assign all of them into a single null object. and to move them from one place to another use a curve and make them follow the curve.
attached giff is the demonstration of animation and the fishes.

Blog 02: Interdisciplinary Project
In This Blog, I will discuss the part I was assigned to make for the Project. So our project is a submarine dark experience. where the submarine is in the bottom of the sea nearly visible outside and the experience of the depth. So after dividing all the tasks, I was assigned to do a submarine hologram that will be in the submarine. where on the other hand one of my teammates was designing the submarine.
So after doing some research on how a hologram should look and its materials. I collected some reference images from ArtStation.
After that Headabck to the Blender and started creating the shader for the model. time was short and the more important thing was to make the hologram effect rather than creating the model itself. so I used one submarine model from a sketchfab and created the material and implied that into the model. here are the outcomes of the hologram:
variant 1
variant 2
and after showing it to the group we decided to finalize the first variant.

Blog 01: Interdisciplinary Project
In this blog, I am going to discuss the idea we generated and finalized for the concept that we are planning to make for the Interdisciplinary Project.
So for a few days, we all gathered intel on how we going to do it and how the Dome immersive experiences work. I was looking around different videos and the previous year's students' projects and I thought maybe best to to make myself useful is to check and do research on how dome experience works and which software we should use to make that video. As after some discussion with the rest of the teammates, we decided to make the experience with the blender. In our 5 member group, 3 of us are stewing Games art one was from animation and one from concept art. All of has have the same tool in common which is the blender. Based on time efficiency and the most productive outcome we decided to make the project in blender. In the meantime, one of our teammates prepared a story that we all agreed on doing and divided the task to start building the structure.
So the Project inspiration was from a Game called Subnotica. Which is an underwater environment game. And I had to buy and play the game to understand the concept my teammate was trying to imply.
Also, I came across a paper that had a very good insight into immersive experiences called
The Why, What, and How of Immersive Experience.
Zhang, C. (2020) 'The why, what, and how of immersive experience', IEEE Access, 8, pp. 90878-90888. doi:10.1109/ACCESS.2020.2993646
In the paper, within the context of the quality of experiences author explores the significance, definition, and measurement of immersive experiences. and proposed 4 innovative approaches to measuring immersion, liking theoretical explanation with practical assessment methods.
Later on, we divided the work and I started working on my part.
