I was partially joking about the "in my opinion devs should be able to just go into a cave and develop for years and then throw out a game with no communication between announcement and release" thing but no actually, unironically, I do think that, I think the barrier between audience and developer should be a ten foot iron wall that gets the occasional signal flare shot over it

Imagine you build this in-depth fictional setting over the course of decades with your friends, and then decide to turn it into a game for fun. You end up creating one of the most celebrated and well-written RPGs of all time and become celebrated for reviving a dying genre.

A few months later, you're fired from the company you founded for criticizing the new direction its taking. The company has the copyright not only to the game you made, but literally everything in the world of the game, which spans decades of lore you built for no profit with your group of friends.

Like, this is a nightmare that I didn't even know existed before I ran into it. To have, what is essentially a passion project that branched off from a TTRPG campaign, be pulled from your hands by a corporate entity that only yearns to abuse your creation for maximum profit. I couldn't imagine myself going on creating anything after that.

so much weird stuff happens to me that I tend to forget about some of it, but we really must talk about how this morning my boss and my coworkers sat me down to tell me that if I continue to ask hard questions about AI, they're worried the university will literally find a way to revoke my degree. the three of them were totally fine and calm telling me this, as if this is a normal thing everyone knows about American universities. The famous "be careful asking questions or they'll take your degree away" talk. Take it away how? Suck the credits back out of me?

I take classes from University of Florida. This is what the culture is like at University of Florida. "keep quiet about the chatbot sucking, or they might find a way to kick you out" and I'm supposed to like, just take my last few courses and finish up like this is a normal school and not the Ministry of Love from 1984.

I am Ahmed, I live with my father, but life has become very painful between hunger, thirst and other things. I went to the aid south of Rafah, where the Americans hold the aid, and I went to get food, but they opened fire on us and my leg was shot, and now I am disabled. 💔 They put iron in my leg so it wouldn't be amputated. If I don't take the necessary treatment that the doctors prescribed for me, my life will deteriorate and they will amputate my leg. But they performed a very dangerous surgery on me, and after several attempts, the operation was successful. They threatened me that if I didn't take care of myself, my leg would be amputated. 😭😭 I had a simple life, a warm home, and my mother died. She used to fill our lives with light. But the war took everything from us... Our homes were destroyed, our dreams were burned, and all that remained was pain and fear. 😭

Can you imagine that I die and my leg is cut off and I remain disabled for the rest of my life, and I am in the prime of my youth? 😭😭 Can you imagine what it means to me? I am a person like any other human being. I went to get food so that we can live. Every day we die of hunger. The Israeli army started shooting at us and most of the people were martyred. I was shot in the leg, and in my last moments they saved my life by cutting off my leg. But after that, will I die or will my leg be cut off? 😭😭

Can you imagine the hunger and thirst that we live with every day? I die of hunger every day of my life. My father is sick with Sultan's disease, multiple sclerosis, and pneumonia. The doctors tell me that your father will one day pass away. He will lose his sight and stop seeing anything. Can you imagine it? 😭😭💔💔💔 No, no, I can't imagine it. I am in your hands. Please help me.

The doctors told us that we only have one option to save him: my life. An urgent and complicated surgery to save my life will be in a few days to reattach the tendons and so that I can move my leg. 😭💔 Can you imagine a person who does not move his leg and remains helpless and filled with sadness over the loss of my mother? Also, my father is sick with diabetes, hepatitis, and multiple sclerosis. They said that at any moment my father will be separated from life and will stand still and live blind and unable to do anything. ‼️

Look at our meaning. I live in dilapidated tents. We go to a place about 100 meters away to go to the bathroom. 💔 We live in dilapidated tents and everything is separate from the details of life. Everything. Every day we die of hunger. I never imagined. 😭

Please donate to save our lives. Please help us buy food and medicine. Please don't leave me alone here. We are dying every day. I don't want to lose my life. Help me, don't hesitate 🙏🏻

The unsavvy talk about furries like they're some hypersexual excretion of modernity, but drawing animal-people is one of the top 10 neolithic human activities. It's up there with collecting berries and producing clay figures of fat women.

I approve of powerscaling discourse only in utterly senseless contexts. I don't give a shit about which shōnen protagonists could beat up which other shōnen protagonists, but I will 100% read your five thousand word essay exploring the subtle nuances of establishing a tiered ranking of the Smurfs.

A little thing I've noticed about very specific certain multiplayer games where the players are supposed to inhabit a "blank slate" player character to act as their vehicle of interaction it usually comes in one of 3 flavors.

1) completely generic white guy.

2) a person fully garbed head to toe showing absolutely no skin and they tell you isn't gendered but is still given a fully masculine body with no option to alter its shape

3) something not even really recognizable as a human. More of a approximation of something with two arms, two legs, a head and (maybe) a face.

All of them will generally share the trait that differentiated your blank slate from other players is done via dressing them up with clothes colors or accessories.

Generally this doesn't get remarked upon at all by people playing the game.

And then there's Satisfactory where there are numerous people on the community page saying that they loved the gameplay but are bothered by the fact that unlike other games the devs of this one made their "blank slate" player-character models all explicitly women but also not super femininely rail-thin.

And a bunch of guys don't know how to cope with being not only "forced" to play as a girl but also one that isn't really designed to be sexy.

I dunno, I just think it's neat.
