The Hunter

he/him. one of the only two strict he/hims (the other is Monk lol)

i like to think he holds spears on his back via sticking them between his rot cysts

i like to think of Hunter as a stoic warrior type. selfless and caring, but keeps to himself alot

The Spearmaster

they/he. mostly cause they/them Spears is peak but i keep accidentally calling them a he lmao

i like to think Spears was an escaped experiment from NSH. we know SRS didn't make him, cause they talk about being repulsed by him at first, and i doubt they'd be like that about something THEY made

Spears i like to think is just. tired. like the main character of a crime drama who's a detective lmao

also a little bandana as a sort of branding, so no matter what, iterators know who to send them back too

The Artificer

she/her. scary mama

while drawing her i ended up making her kinda chonky, and that gave me an idea- what if she's explosive resistant because she has a large amount of fat? so it like, cousions her from the impact.

i like to think Arti used to be an absolute sweetheart prior to her kids dying. like, grandma down the street who makes cookies for the neighborhood sweet. then her kids died and all the love in her body is gone sjiodskdf

nowadays i think if she ran into a slugpup, she'd still be a decent mother to them, but she'd probably scare them pretty quick. she doesn't have the same gentleness she used too, and would opt in for teaching the kid how to fight rather then carry them away from danger. would probably teach them to hunt their own food so she doesn't have too

she probably smells like a dumpster fire. like, literally. garbage on fire. that's what she smells like

the conversation just starts bad, with Gorgecrest coming in with: "stars, this won't end well. i sure do hope you pick better mentors for our kits. ones that wont be a disaster."

she introduces the idea of kits in a horrible way- she puts down Shadestar's ability to make decisions, treats Tarantulapaw and Galetufts problems almost like a joke (being so nonchalant about the problem, practically dismissing it), and introduces the idea of kits as it already being a decision made, when it's implied they've never spoken about it before. Gorgecrest is already showing a lack of care for others.

also, it may look like Shadestar isn't listening- but his ear is pointed at her. he's listening, just focused on the problem in front of him. hence him turning to her in the next panel.

"oh, sorry honey, i should have said so sooner. but i don't really want kits of m-" "WHAT?!" "why?!" "i don't know-" "then figure it out! i've been waiting!"

Shadestar does the right thing here, though in an odd way- he tries to say he never wanted kits, and apologizes for not talking about it sooner- though the way he says it sounds a bit self-centered. maybe he was going to say more, we dont know, but it doesn't seem like he was going to try and understand her side of it much. he can tel they have a difference of wants here, but words it as him not wanting kits is the end-all-be-all. considering she cuts him off, however, it's hard to say whether or not he would've tried to figure out a way around it all.

Gorgecrest, on the other hand, barely tries to listen to him. she hears "i don't want to give you what you want" and immediately starts yelling. she tells him to "figure it out", as if he needs to change his mind for her. she says "i've been waiting", as if he needs to have kits with her, and she's in the right for assuming he would. again, not caring about his side of this.

"i'm not about to wait until you get over yourself to start a family! you're taking too long." "Gorgecrest-" "i need to do my job."

again, she barely lets him get a word in, and implies him selfish for not wanting children. she can argue it wasn't okay for him to not say that previously, but it also wasn't okay for her to just expect him to have babies with her the second she asked. she makes it out to be his fault there's a problem, to the point that once she leaves, the last bit of dialogue from Shadestar is apologizing.

TL;DR: Gorgecrest doesn't seem to care much for people outside of herself, and gets mad when Shadestar forgets to communicate, putting him down and refusing to let him figure out the issue with her, instead opting to guilt him into giving her what she wants.
