so he's super strong because he's used to fighting the big guys, the bosses
Thinking abt nicos powers warding off most monsters but as a consequence the only monsters he encounters are extremely bold, intelligent, or powerful. He doesnt have to fight monsters often but when he does its always a boss battle

when gillian flynn said “I’ve grown quite weary of the spunky heroines, brave rape victims, soul-searching fashionistas that stock so many books. I particularly mourn the lack of female villains — good, potent female villains. Not ill-tempered women who scheme about landing good men and better shoes (as if we had nothing more interesting to war over), not chilly WASP mothers (emotionally distant isn’t necessarily evil), not soapy vixens (merely bitchy doesn’t qualify either). I’m talking violent, wicked women. Scary women. Don’t tell me you don’t know some. The point is, women have spent so many years girl-powering ourselves — to the point of almost parodic encouragement — we’ve left no room to acknowledge our dark side. Dark sides are important. They should be nurtured like nasty black orchids.”

I feel like some PJO fans are just really dense or they clearly didn't read the books
I literally saw a post comparing Annabeth to Gabe because she "abuses" Percy (fastest block in my life).
Like, WTF are we doing at this point? Is the misogyny so ingrained in this fandom that we cannot be helped?
First things first, the judo flip is clearly written to be read as romantic down to Percy smiling up at her and flirting when it happens. They're also literal soldiers who have grown up training together. Ya'll cannot on one hand gush about Percy being uber powerful and then on the other hand act like Annabeth could have killed him from a judo flip, something she's trained to do and would be able to easily do without causing any pain to the person she did it to. Using the judo flip to paint Annabeth as abusive when that clearly was not the intent is so ridiculously moronic. You can argue that you don't like the judo flip. That is 100% understandable. But saying it's abusive and calling Annabeth abusive over it when it's so vicerally clear in the narrative that Rick meant it be read romantic is downright stupid. You can have problems with the fact that Rick meant that to be read as romantic, but again it does not change the intent. And he was clearly not writing Annabeth as abusive in the scene (the character is literally based on his wife and mother of his children for crying out loud).
And when else has Annabeth "abused" Percy? Playful taps between friends does not equal abuse and it's downright insulting to call it that. Her budging him to get his attention to dance or her tapping his foot under the table to get him to stop talking is not abuse. This is getting so STUPID. Seriously, show me examples of Annabeth abusing Percy. This line of hate used against Annabeth is downright pathetic and really offensive to people who have been in abusive relationships.
Name calling? Do people even realize that Percy called Annabeth "Wise Girl" first and 100% meant it as an insult as he was implying she was stupid at the time? Wise Girl was only meant in an affectionate way later. When Percy first started calling her it he was using it as an insult to imply she was actually not smart. You know who he got the name from? Clarisse, the camp bully. Yet some folks call Annabeth abusive for calling Percy Seaweed Brain and casullly ignore that Percy was an active participant in the name calling? Why is it ok for Percy to name call but it's not ok for Annabeth to return the favor. Not to mention that Seaweed Brain and Wise Girl became terms of affection by at least the end of Lightening Thief. Past Lightening Thief neither of them use those names as outright insults from my recollection.
Ya'll want complicated female characters but can't even handle Annabeth Chase not being a Mary Sue and actually being a female character with flaws.....UNDERSTANDABLE FLAWS.
One thing about PJO fans......most of them have never read the books......and it shows. Either that or some of ya'll are getting way too comfortable with the misogyny that contributes to most of the hate for Annabeth.

AND GROVER??
I really like the idea of Percy having a chronic adoption problem so I'm just gonna run with it.
So when Percy finally has enough money he just pours a bunch of it into those adopt an animal programs that are designed to help fund the protection of endangered species. But he is just way too into it, and takes it completely serious.
Annabeth: *Coming home after a stressful day at work, Seeing a tall ass Zebra horse standing in the kitchen staring at her* Percy why the fuck is there a horse in our apartment
Percy: His name is Pablo, he's an Okapi, and he's our son
Annabeth: We can't keep him
Percy: After everything that happened you want to abandon our son, how could you. I even asked him and everything he wants to be here. I didn't think you of all people would want to abandon your child.
Annabeth: *trying desperately not to strangle her boyfriend* Okapi's reach adulthood at 3 years old, Pablo looks older than that, I'm just trying to encourage him to be self sufficient and spread his wings. Also you adopt them to keep them protected in their natural environment, Percy.
------------------------------------------------
Annabeth: *wakes up to see a massive green anaconda on the couch* You've never been able to talk to snakes even if they're water snakes, what possible excuse could you have for this.
Percy: Hermes heard about me adopting animals and gave me the ability to talk to snakes
Annabeth: *mentally adding gave Percy parseltongue to the list of reason to kill Hermes* We have 5 aquariums filled with fish, you're not keeping it.
-------------------------------
Annabeth tries desperately to get help from others but Sally is completely behind it, and the sea gods see no problem with it so she tries to get Thalia's help and its just:
Thalia: Sorry but I am a proud aunt to an electric eel also named Thalia and I can't betray her like that, maybe try Nico.
Annabeth: *Having no clue where this fucking electric eel is and is paranoid around every source of water for the next week.*
Also Thalia totally told Artemis about it and blessed Percy to be able to talk to even more animals.
---------------------------------------------
Annabeth: Percy, why the is there suspiciously bear shaped paw prints on the floor?
Percy: That's Clarisse
Annabeth: And Clarisse is a bear?
Percy: Yeah, it was a little too hot for her so I just froze the water in the bathroom and put her in there
Annabeth: How the FUCK did you get a polar bear into this apartment, we can't keep it.
Percy *pulling out the adoption papers* Oh, Hellhounds are fine but a Polar bear is where you draw the line.
----------------------------------
Eventually Annabeth just tells Percy he might as well open a zoo. Which Percy absolutely tries too, and claims he's just gonna use the "you were a deadbeat dad" excuse on Poseidon to get money.
Annabeth: I take it it didn't work
Percy: I'll get him eventually, besides if I open a zoo you can design it.
Annabeth with park plans that can be modified and haven't been touched in 5 years: I'm listening.
-------------------------------------
So Percy just approaches other gods about funding the whole thing, and within a week he has it almost all accounted for.
Hermes- the Reptile House
Kymopoleia- Jellyfish and sea creatures exhibits
Artemis- all North american animals
Aphrodite and Athena- split every bird exhibit
Amphitrite- Fresh water fish
He even managed to get Keto and Phorcys to agree to sell them the aquarium. When Poseidon appears in the apartment.
Poseidon: I told you I was not going to be a part of this
Percy: And you're not, but your wife, and daughter, and nieces, and nephews, and brothers, and sisters are.
Poseidon, refusing to be one upped: Then I will fund the sea creatures exhibit
Percy: actually the only exhibit open is for sea monsters, were going to have a demigod side.
Poseidon: fine, but I also get my name on any horse exhibits, and a shark named after me.
Percy: Deal
------------------------------
When the zoo opens its just an instant success and safe ground for demigods, then Percy has to be interviewed as the owner.
Interviewer: Do you find yourself building a relationship with any of the creatures, you seem very at ease even around the more dangerous creatures.
Percy, Who just spent the last hour and a half being a couples counselor to some kangaroos: Yeah it's almost like I can talk to them.
And don't worry they do everything by the book and only take in wounded creatures that would die in the wild. But there's still like 30 some odd creatures around the globe that just randomly get visited by a black haired man and blonde woman who call themselves their parents, every year, on the same day. But they bring free food and call it a birthday celebration so why not.

percy who refuses to let his anger into his home. percy who refuses to hug or kiss annabeth when he's angry because he doesn't want his interactions with her to be poisoned by his rage. percy who sits outside or goes for a drive or a walk until he calms down before reentering his home because he refuses to be the angry man that haunts a home, he refuses to become like gabe. if annabeth catches him off guard when he's angry, he tries to keep a distance as he trembles with rage that he tries so hard to quell because he doesn't want to scare her (again) or somehow hurt her. annabeth who reaches out to help him and assure him that it's fine. percy's hands that shake with anger and fear all tied in one, his touch feather light and barely there because he's afraid if he gives himself an inch with her, his wrath will explode from within him and he'll become the monster of his nightmares, the monster of his mother's nightmares.

what is your opinion on the whole thing with akhlys? cuz i really like the way you address(?? talk about??) percabeth scenes that some of the fandom might find 'abusive'
i'm talking, more specifically, about annabeth telling percy not to use his (for lack of a better word) bloodbending ever again?
cuz i feel like that was sooo ooc for her!
especially cuz of the fact that she's known she was a demigod for like forever and managed to survive a year out in the wild with thalia and luke. so she definitely knows that anything that demigods can use to tip the scales in their favour is free game, so i don't understand why she reacted the way she did
(sorry if i was rambling)
I think this is one of those scenes where there are just too many factors involved for us to be totally objective. Both Percy and Annabeth were completely valid in how they acted and what they said. They were in horrible mental and physical states. Percy even said he felt like something inside him snapped when it happened—so clearly, he wasn’t acting like his usual self. Annabeth saw that, and it scared her.
Personally, I think Percy was fully within his rights to do what he did. (And yeah, I also think it was cool as hell.) That goddess was going to kill them and make them suffer. The gods have already messed with his life so much, and he was done. They’d hit his last nerve. In my opinion, Akhlys deserved it. So yeah—what he did was totally justifiable.
That said, Annabeth was already completely terrified and worn down by Tartarus. Seeing Percy—her safe person, the sweetest guy she knows—do something like that was understandably upsetting. It probably reminded her of Luke, too. And I really don’t think it was the act of turning Akhlys’ poison back on her that bothered Annabeth. Percy does something similar in Wrath of the Triple Goddess, when he reverses the paralyzing potion Phaedra throws at Annabeth and paralyzes Phaedra instead—and Annabeth doesn’t seem bothered at all. If anything, it’s kind of implied she’s impressed. He also manipulates his and Grover's bodily fluids to save them from poison (and accidentally dehydrates them lol) and again, it's not a problem. So no—it wasn’t the turn-poison-back-on-the-posioner action itself. It was the fact that Percy was enjoying it. Akhlys was shrieking and wailing and choking... and Percy looked like he was getting satisfaction out of it. That’s what scared Annabeth. Especially in the nightmare environment of Tartarus, when her anxiety was already through the roof.
Also, earlier in Tartarus, after he kills Arachne, Percy says “she died too easily” and “she deserved worse.” Annabeth internally notes that his tone unsettled her and that she was glad Arachne died quickly. Arachne—who was her own personal nightmare... So yeah, Percy was already being affected by Tartarus (which he later admits), and Annabeth saw that happening. She loves Percy exactly the way he is. She doesn’t want him going dark like Luke did.
I genuinely don’t understand how people are calling her abusive for being scared. Like
god forbid a 17-year-old girl in the toxic depths of hell shows fear because her sweet boyfriend is suddenly smiling as he tortures someone?? Yeah, it was Percy—someone she knows and loves—but he wasn’t acting like himself. And there’s nothing scarier than seeing someone you love become unrecognizable, even for a moment.
One more thing I want to add. People act like Annabeth treated him like a monster afterward, but here’s what actually happened:
Annabeth stumbled toward him. She looked like a corpse wreathed in smoke, but she felt solid enough when she gripped his arms.
"Percy, please don’t ever
” Her voice broke in a sob. “Some things aren’t meant to be controlled. Please.”
His whole body tingled with power, but the anger was subsiding. The broken glass inside him was beginning to smooth at the edges.
Then
they move on. It comes up a few more times individually, but not between the two of them.
She was obviously scared, heartbroken, incredibly anxious and traumatized—from everything—but she wasn’t trying to hurt him or call him a bad person. She just wanted him to come back to her. And he wasn’t himself—he says that. You have to remember: this was right after it happened. Annabeth didn’t know he was going to stop. She didn’t know he was going to come back. For all she knew, that could’ve been his breaking point. He might’ve gone full dark mode, never to be himself again. Like Luke.
She wasn’t yelling or lashing out—she used logic, touch, and a gentle voice to reach him. And it worked. He came back. But she had no way of knowing he would. So how else was she supposed to react in that moment? Calmly? Gracefully? Tell him “nice torturing skills!”?? It doesn’t matter that he saved them. It still scared her. She’s allowed to feel that way. Just like he was allowed to lash out and turn some of his pain back on the goddess. They were both shaken up by it. It was a terrible situation they were forced into.
They may be half-god, but the half-human parts of them are still allowed to feel and react like humans. They are also still kids, in some ways. Neither of them is the villain here.

Stop the ending Vs the start 😭
even though i don’t think percy and annabeth start having kids until their mid to late 20s, they are still probably among the first of all their friends to have kids. and their first one is probably the most loved-on little munchkin ever.
and imagine at first, seeing their little family makes other demigods want to have kids. because their friends would see how happy and carefree percy and annabeth are. in my own head, their first kid is a little boy with curly blonde hair and sea green eyes, who runs around with his rubix cube and splashes around in water. he’s got percy’s sneaky troublemaker smile and annabeth’s calculating look. he’s freaking adorable. people would see annabeth looking so at peace—holding him close to her chest and running her fingers through his little blonde curls. they would see him running into his dad’s arms, and percy looking happier than anyone has ever seen him, throwing the little guy up in the air and making him giggle and kissing his cheeks. and people would think ‘wow. i can have this too.’
until something happens. until the first time people see their sweet little family under attack. and here’s the thing: percy and annabeth will always make absolutely sure nothing happens to their child. no doubt that when annabeth was pregnant, they spent countless late nights planning for every possible scenario. and you’ve never seen those two truly fight until you’ve seen them fight to protect their kid. so the little guy was never actually gonna get hurt.
but he still screams his little lungs out. he cries for his daddy as percy dives into an army of monsters that all look straight out of a nightmare. he cries as his momma holds him painfully tight against her as she runs the other way. until annabeth hands him off to a trusted friend, and tells them to take him and run, to which he screams even louder at being separated from both his parents now. and it’s at that moment that many demigods realize that parenthood is not for them.
because watching that little boy cry, hearing his screams, seeing the terror in percy and annabeth’s eyes—a terror worse than anyone has ever seen those two show—the moment they realize their son is in danger
it’s too much. it’s not something that people are willing to go through. the potential happiness is not worth the stress and the fear and the potential for unimaginable pain.
imagine percy and annabeth being the ones to show people that even the most targeted demigods can settle down and have a family. and imagine them also being the ones who make people realize that they never want to have families themselves.

People don’t talk about Kronos using Annabeth as leverage against Percy enough.
“It’s time to surrender or the girl dies” because Kronos knew if it was Annabeths life at stake Percy would give up the world.
and Annabeth knew it too. “Percy, don’t.” because he really would risk it all to make sure she’s alive
He does notttt play when it comes to her
