ECO FOCAL  PROJECT DESCRIPTION 

This installation opens a portal to a cinematic environment in fort lane. The idea of having an environment similar to a film set is enhanced through a weather machine and the use of film processes/techniques. The film processes that I have applied in this design are Lights, Camera, and Action and the technique that I was really ardent about was the focus and blur effect. My interest in viewing the capricious weather of Auckland from a different perspective led me to explore microclimates. Microclimates are local set atmospheres which differ from the reality of the surrounding atmosphere. This proposed structure is a parametric shape known as Voronoi. It is a very organic pattern, also it can be seen in cells of leaves, dragonfly wings, and beehives, etc. The choice of this specific shape is because I required a structure that could remote water in various positions. The structure collects stormwater and then creates thin streams of showers which enhances the body of a raindrop. The multi-colored feature that is installed in between the empty space of the installation is a 3M Dichroic Blzae film on perspex. This feature has various sizes of void spaces in them. The dichroic help’s warp the surrounding with its distorted reflection and sets the focus on what’s in the center. This is where you can see the effect of focus and blur. This design aims to provide a new outlook on the constant change in the weather. Eco Focal displays a new way to experience rainy weather and gives a sense of intimacy between the people and the climate.

1:1 PART: PIECE 

This is a small 1:1 section of the top of the structure showing the materiality and how the water behaves when it passes through the 8mm hole.

1:100 FORT LANE : SHAPE

This model covers the beginning of fort lane from fort street and stops at the end of the car park and imperial lane. magnets hold together the split half’s of this model.

circular frame embedded with 3M Blaze dichroic that includes a void in the center.

1:50 SECTION MODEL: UMBRELLA MAN 

Addition to the previous model . The voronoi structure is placed with a piece of dichroic that has  a void space in the center.

SKIN: MATERIALITY

Lights: Main voronoi structure is white colour coated aluminum. Its strong durable and it does not rust which makes it perfect for outdoors and durable during any weather condition.

Camera: The chosen material of the proposed lenses is 3M Blaze Dichroic.The effect a dichroic causes is a colourful  reflection and a warped transparency.Which contributes greatly into the cinematic technique of blur.   

Action: The stored water that will be pushed through the pump will be channeled through 50mm PVC pipes that will be located behind the skeleton of the voronoi structure.

INDENTATION: PAVEMENT Subtle detail in the pavement,engraved with cursive patterns.This channels the water from the structure into the drainage .

Reasoning: This refers back to the element of a shoreline that used to be present before the establishment of fort lane.

Panelization:

is a catch-all term that includes many techniques and systems, but it generally “refers to a construction method where housing components are prefabricated in a climate-controlled facility before being shipped to a home site.

The connection of each single parametric  will be joined with the popular panel  brackets fastened with 6 x hex bolts.

Program

The sump basin is allocated at Roxy’s back storage. The pipe above guides the storm water down to the storage. Which is then collected by the basin .Once the basin collects enough water it triggers the float switch and the pump activates. the water is pumped through a discharged pipe onto the back of the voronoi skeleton and released from above through the 5 mm holes in the structure above. as the water level drops the switch will disengage
