Look at how gentle John is being when Sherlock is holding his hand. Look at how perfectly their hands are together. Even though in this scene, John is extremely mad at Sherlock and upset with him, just look at how relaxed his hands are, being held with such care and gentleness as if they would break at the touch of a finger. Sherlock has completely given in to John’s hands, observing his arm for scars and bruises. Sherlock rests his thumb on the John’s hand and John’s thumb wraps around Sherlock’s hand, yes of course he could very well be holding it for support but why would Sherlock need it? The way that they’re holding hands just makes me feel all the feeeeeels. This scene might have a deeper meaning. Sherlock did not need to let Johns hand into his but he did and he consciously held it. Sherlock missed John so much that maybe the touch of John’s warm hand would make him feel something other than pain. Sherlock needs John to feel human, to feel emotion and to calm himself down. Yes, it all could be for naught and this post very likely is useless and silly but this could have a deeper meaning. Sherlock craved John’s attention and wanted him back but John didn’t want to see Sherlock so Sherlock reverted to drugs, yet when he is given, what he believes, could be the only chance to know what it feels like to hold John’s hand and to be in the present, with John and not in his head, to be living in this second, consciously thinking about the feeling of Johns hand. This also could just be the holding of hands for the only purpose and only meaning of — John knowing that Sherlock is constantly addicted and Sherlock is just letting it happen, but sometimes these things could mean more, or seem to mean more and maybe weren’t supposed to mean more.

Anyway thank you for taking the time to read this (for those of you that did) and please do keep in mind that I understand that this is more than likely just a scene like any other with no deep meaning but this is just what I interpreted from the scene and the way everything went down here.

Now carry on with your moving like Jagger and your bippity-boppity-booing.

Everyone keeps talking about Crowley’s proposal to Aziraphale (”We’ll go off together!”) but nobody’s talking about Aziraphale’s more-subtle-but-still-there proposal to Crowley (which Crowley rejects):

“You were an angel, once,” Aziraphale says.

“You can be an angel, again,” Aziraphale implies.

Crowley immediately dismisses the idea with his own rebuff: “That was a long time ago”, completely rejecting the fact that he could ever be an angel, again.

And just look at Aziraphale’s face afterwards:

That’s when he gets truly upset. That’s when he starts arguing with Crowley, when he snaps at him, when he sounds ready to cry.

“I’m sorry, I apologize, whatever I said…” - Crowley, later

Crowley doesn’t realize how much the rejection of his angelic side hurt Aziraphale. He’s so focused on getting them off of the planet, going “off together”, that he doesn’t realize that Aziraphale has his own plan to survive together. At this point, he still has complete faith in heaven, in the Almighty, in the Ineffable Plan. He thinks that heaven, that being heard by heaven, that being in heaven, that being an angel, will be what ultimately saves him. So, I really think that, at this point, he’s offering that chance to Crowley. “You were an angel, once. Come be an angel, again. Be an angel with me. Be an angel, believing in the powers of the Almighty. She’ll care about us both, because we’re angels. She’ll protect us both. We can survive, as angels, together.”

Crowley wanted to save them by escaping—running away together.

Aziraphale wanted to save them by returning—going home together.

Before that I’d like to present to you the great and almighty archive.org, where I found a recording of the play (x) done at BBC Radio Four’s More Than Words Festival in Bristol (2012). 

So, please, enjoy – because there is so much gay subtext in this play, and the feeling of getting the pay-off for it at the very end is the best thing in the world.

As you might have noticed by my reblogs for the past couple of months I’ve just been absorbed by Sherlock Holmes (particularly the original books and the Granada tv show). I used to be an avid fan back when I was barely 11 years old, but back then with a very limited internet connection and only having access to a video store in a small Spanish town I only had the books to read and a couple of SH movies, mainly “Young Sherlock Holmes” and “The Great Mouse Detective”, to supplement my book-reading marathon. BBC’s “Sherlock” didn’t fully hook me up because I’ve always been more of a fan of the Victorian setting and it’s only now, after 20 years, that I have discovered Granada and the BBC Radio plays and the Soviet show (and rekindled my love for the Guy Ritchie movies). I am head over heels in love with these characters and Holmes made me remember the very first time I questioned my gender expression and orientation. 

It’s a shame the t*mblr purge probably got rid of so much art I could otherwise have devoured, but the little I have seen makes me feel so warm and fuzzy, and even if I’m not very active here (I’m trying to post more art on Twitter or even Instagram) I hope you all like what I have sketched on the side.

In the BBC radio adaptation of “The Musgrave Ritual” the story begins with Holmes and Watson trying to move a heavy box around their apartment while cleaning. They fall to the ground and spend a good 5 minutes giggling like “a pair of naughty school boys” and commenting on how the carpet is “rather comfortable and kind to the knees” so of course I couldn’t stop thinking of them rolling on the floor and smooching instead of cleaning up. 

Holmes knows how to make Watson forget about Spring cleaning very effectively.
