James to Peter and Remus: you want to see something bizarre?
Peter and Remus: absolutely
James: Sirius! Regulus! come here real quick
Regulus: *suspicious*
Sirius: *optimistically cautious*
James: *smiles* your brother looks nicer than you today!
Sirius and Regulus: *cross their arms the same way, turn up their noses the same way, scoff the same way all at the same time*
Sirius and Regulus: No he doesn’t!
Sirius and Regulus to each other: no you don’t!
The two of them: stop that!
The two of them: no you stop
The two of them: James quit doing this!
The two of them: I’m leaving *storm off the same way*
James: *grinning*
Peter: :0
Remus: they- they have a sync button…?
James: let me tell you, I was thrown for a loop the first time it happened!

The fact that there’s people that ship Remus and Regulus but their ship name is “moonwater” is just disrespectful and gross. What part of naming Regulus for his death, where he died alone and drowned thinking no one would ever know what he did, is cute? Moonwater? MOONWATER? Nah you got me fucked me up with that.

Non-binary Remus
this entire thing is just me projecting onto Remus shhh who said that
The first time Remus Lupin questioned his sexuality was at eleven years old, though he didn’t technically question it, just more or less thought about it.
His mother had given him a poster of T. Rex for his birthday and his eyes couldn’t leave Marc Bolan.
A smile would form on his face every time he’d see a picture of the singer and his heart would fill with warmth. He didn’t think much of it for a few years.
The second time Remus Lupin questioned his sexuality was still another moment of briefly thinking about such a thing.
He was thirteen and it was the first day of his fourth year at Hogwarts. Marlene McKinnon had entered the train compartment and Remus questioned how he never noticed her beauty before.
Her long blonde hair, her bright blue eyes, her wide smile—how she carried herself. Everything about her was amazing and Remus quickly found himself getting choked up around her as time went on.
The third time Remus Lupin questioned his sexuality was halfway through fourth year, and this time, he genuinely thought about it.
Marlene and Sirius had started dating, and anytime Remus saw them, his heart ached. He was used to the pain he felt whenever he was around Marlene, but when he started feeling the bubbling in his body quickly followed by an ache in heart whenever he found himself around his best friend, he knew something was up.
Confused by such a feeling because there was no possible way he could ever feel such a thing for two people, a girl and a boy at once, Remus found himself scouring the library for a particular book.
The LGBTQ+ Community; A Guide for Questioning Magic Folks presented itself just before the library closed. He quickly ran to Madam Pince and sheepishly asked if he could take it out.
Surprisingly, the witch immediately nodded once she saw the title, her words even more shocking, “You can keep that copy, Mr. Lupin. I have others.”
He thanked the witch and stuffed the book in bag. He only removed the book hours later when he found himself in the safety of his bed, the curtains drawn and his three roommates fast asleep.
The first chapter was all about definitions, which proved to be helpful, since Remus always started with definitions when it came to school work.
Bisexual: characterized by sexual or romantic attraction to people of one’s own gender identity or other gender identities
Gay: characterized by sexual or romantic attraction to those of the same sex, usually referred to men
Gender-fluid: someone for whom gender identity and presentation is a spectrum. doesn’t conform to one gender or even a few
Lesbian: a woman who is sexually or romantically attracted to other women
Non-binary: a person who’s gender identity does not conform to the gender binary. some non-binary people identify with more than one gender, while others don’t identify with any
Pansexual: someone who is attracted to people of any or all genders
Queer: anyone who isn’t heterosexual or cisgender
Usually, definitions helped Remus, but the more he read, the more confused he became. There were so many different sexualities and identities, how was he supposed to know what felt right for him? How was he supposed to pinpoint the way he felt about people? How was he supposed to label himself?
A bit frustrated, Remus went to bed that night slightly more confused than he was before, but somewhat grateful to know there were other people who felt similar to him.
As time went on, Remus didn’t think about labels all that much as he was far more concerned with his classes and being with his friends than he was about fitting himself into a box or finding a box that fit him.
It wasn’t until sixth year when he kissed Sirius for the first time when he thought about his sexuality again.
Sirius wasn’t the first person he kissed, but he was definitely one of the first people Remus kissed that made the butterflies in his stomach go haywire.
When they eventually pulled away, both very much out of breath, Sirius’ smile turned into a puzzled look as he gently grabbed Remus’ hand.
“Why didn’t you tell me you’re gay?” Sirius softly spoke. Remus gulped, he didn’t necessarily want to have this conversation ever, but especially not in the middle of a corridor when anyone could turn the corner.
“Because I’m not,” Remus stated, his throat tightening as he watched Sirius’ brows draw together in confusion. “I don’t know what I am. I just know that I like you, is that alright?”
Just when Remus was certain Sirius would laugh and say such a statement was stupid, that Remus had to know what he was or at least label himself as queer, Sirius smiled and nodded, bringing Remus’ face back to his.
“Perfectly alright,” Sirius breathed as their lips ghosted each other, “You don’t need a label if you don’t want one.”
The probably millionth time Remus Lupin questioned his sexuality was a year after finishing his education at Hogwarts, but this time it wasn’t so much his sexuality and more so his identity.
He woke up before Sirius and just silently watched as his lover peacefully slept. Something had been on Remus’ mind for months, but he didn’t have the slightest idea how to articulate his emotions.
Remus reached for Sirius’ hand and ever so gently traced the other’s palm. The simple action always calmed him in moments of doubt.
He continued to drag his nail across the palm, each line, each callus, each dry patch, until the grey blue eyes fluttered open.
They remained in silence, both of them watching Remus trace Sirius’ palm, until Sirius’ hoarse morning voice finally broke the silence.
“I’ve missed you.”
“Neither of us have had missions apart in months,” Remus whispered back, his eyes not leaving his finger as he continued to trace Sirius’ hand, despite feeling the gaze of his lover.
“Love, you haven’t touched me or even looked at me in weeks.”
“It hasn’t been that long—”
“It’s been 65 days since you last reached for me.” Sirius softly spoke, and this time, Remus’ eyes shot up as his finger stilled in the center of his lover’s palm. The first thing Remus knew were the tears welling in the grey eyes. The next thing Remus knew was the feeling of his heart shattering into a million pieces. “Darling, what’s been on your mind?”
Remus sharply inhaled and wished he hadn’t, for Sirius’ eyes widened. He blinked a few times, tears sliding down his face as his throat closed, air barely making its way to his lungs.
“I love you with all of my heart—”
“I know.”
Sirius slightly nodded and gently grabbed Remus’ hand before bringing it to his lips, leaving small kisses on each of Remus’ knuckles.
“I don’t know what’s going on in that beautiful mind of yours, Remus Lupin, but I’ll still love you regardless of what it is.”
Remus gulped, surely Sirius wouldn’t understand this when Remus couldn’t even understand it either. Even after rereading The LGBTQ+ Community; A Guide for Questioning Magic Folks at least twelve times since first reading it at thirteen—to a point where Remus could recite it—along with countless of other books about gender and identity, Remus was still unsure.
“I like my body—well not the wolf part or the scars—but my body itself is fine, b-but lately it’s just felt more complex than that,” Remus whispered, not wanting to meet the hurting grey eyes but determinedly doing so anyway. Sirius gave Remus’ hand a squeeze of encouragement, which seemed to help, for Remus softly continued. “I-I’ve been thinking about it a lot and I think I-I’m non-binary.”
Remus waited for something, his lover to speak, or even the ringing in his ears and the pain in his chest to stop—anything. Though it felt like years, it couldn’t have been more than a few seconds before Sirius squeezed Remus’ hand.
They stared into each other’s eyes, Sirius tightly holding both of Remus’ hands in his, Remus blinking away tears.
“Are you changing your pronouns or keeping he/him?” Sirius gently asked, “Do you want me to use different pet names?”
“I love the stupid pet names you use,” Remus shook his head, his voice somehow even quieter with each word that escaped, “At the moment, I-I like they/them, but it might change in the future.”
Sirius nodded and momentarily let go of Remus’ hands as he sat up. Remus watched as their partner brought a shaky hand through his long black hair, slightly nervous as to what Sirius was about to say.
“C’mere,” Sirius whispered as he opened his arms, the nervousness vanishing from Remus’ body by the simple word. Remus sat up and the moment they did, Sirius’ arms were around them at once. “Fuck, Remus. I-I thought y-you killed someone o-or wanted to break up wi-with me.” Sirius choked out as Remus’ face fell to the crook of Sirius’ neck.
Remus slowly relaxed as their body heaved with each cry that escaped. They pressed a kiss to Sirius’ bare chest, which only made Sirius hold them even tighter.
“I’m just glad you’re safe and feel better about yourself—Please don’t scare me like that again, my love,” Sirius croaked out, his hand was shakily rubbing circles into Remus’ back, occasionally kissing the top of their head, “I-I’m so lucky to have you, Remus Lupin, as my partner a-and undeniably the love of my life—Fuck, I love you so much. I-I don’t know what I’d do if I lost you in any capacity.”
Remus nodded as they slowly pulled away to meet their lover’s eyes. “Thank you—”
“For loving you for who you are?” Sirius whispered as he reached out to cup Remus’ face. He gently wiped the tears that had fallen from their face while Remus did the same to him. “Darling, that’s the easiest part about loving you and I promise I’ll never stop.”
Remus leaned in and the two shared a gentle kiss, both of their cheeks still stained with tears. When they pulled away and saw the concerned expression on Sirius’ face, Remus latched onto Sirius again, nuzzling their head into his chest.
They let out a content sigh, a sigh of relief he had been holding in for far too long. Labels for their sexuality, and even in general, would always feel too constricting, but this one—being non-binary—felt comforting, it felt right.
And that’s all that mattered to Remus.

i find it really funny that when i, as someone who relates to james a little too hard, makes a headcanon about him, based off myself everyone goes wild so here’s some
James headcanons that are a little too specific
james has no idea what personal space is around his friends. he kisses them on the cheek, constantly says i love, hugs them extra tight and all that good stuff
his love language is touch and compliments
the BIGGEST hype man in the word. feeling a little insecure? tell him and he will literally hype you up so much like the man is a huge simp. “damn moony, lily is my one true love but that jumper really brings out your eyes mate” “absolutely loving that haircut pete, it suits you so much” “woah! that tattoo is so fucking cool sirius, holy shit!!!!”
this man is the worst at articulating his thoughts and half of the time no one knows what he’s talking about because he under explains himself. the other half of the time, he over explains
cries at cheesy rom coms and DOESNT deny it because “what do mean the notebook didn’t make you sob?!! do you even have a heart remus????”
always takes the time listen to whatever music his friends recommend it tell him about because he KNOWS how important that kind of stuff can be to people
when drinking, makes sure there’s someone who’s nearly sober and if there isn’t he just doesn’t drink
stims by gently hitting his closed fists against his hips and making weird noises at the other marauders like “eeeeeeeeee” “i’m going down to get it later james, don’t rush me” or “guuuuuuuuuuuuh” “good morning to you too prongs”
constantly messing with his hair and making sure it’s just right despite the fact it’s always messy anyway
makes the best tea and is the marauders’ designated tea maker
everyone jokes he can’t cook for shit but he’s actually really good at it and it comes as a surprise to everyone except sirius
worst memory ever, sticky notes ALL over their dorm with reminders like “quidditch practice at 6” “transfiguration essay due monday” “match vs ravenclaw on friday”
