Getting Here is Half the Battle
Getting Here is Half the Battle
It’s the most daunting seat in the house–not surprisingly, since none of the other chairs here are particularly bothersome. It’s not the way it looks, or even the way it feels that makes it difficult. It’s where it sits. Its choice of company.; It’s the chair pulled up in front of my computer screen and keyboard, and dragging myself into it every day is a struggle.
At one  point in my career, I…

Room for the Struggle
Room for the Struggle
It’s been a while since I posted here on my blog. I sort of let everything slide last year, and though my reasons seemed valid at the time (don’t they always?} I’m finding that getting back into the habit of being productive every day is a challenge.
Ispent the first couple of months with my younger daughter and the grandkids in Missouri. About two weeks after I returned home to Florida, we…

It Really is the Thought that Counts -- #MFRWauthor
It Really is the Thought that Counts — #MFRWauthor
Okay. It’s been a while. I’ve been dealing with a nasty case of depression, but I think I’m back…or at least mostly back.  Anyway, welcome to week 19 of the Marketing for Romance Writers 52-Week Blog Challenge, most of which I’ve missed so far this year. This week’s prompt is My Most Romantic Memory, which is tougher for me than you might expect.
The sad fact is, I haven’t experienced many…

Deep in the Well
Deep in the Well
Depression is an insidious disease, a formidable foe, and a pain in the … neck. I was diagnosed with it years ago, sought help, took medication, and gradually got better. I felt so much better, in fact, that eventually I stopped taking the medication. A few years later, I found myself fighting debilitating fatigue, a lack of motivation, and a missing spark of creativity. Naturally, I blamed all…

Five Minutes of Silence, That's All I Ask
Five Minutes of Silence, That’s All I Ask
Dear Neighbors and nearby businesses. Also, emergency vehicles, traffic in general, birds and other wildlife, and neighborhood pets: I know this seems like a lot to ask, but if you could hold it down a bit, I’d really appreciate it. , You see, I got a new puppy for Christmas, and then promptly had to leave him in Older Daughter’s care while I went to spend a couple of months with Younger Daughter…

5 Tasks I'd Give Up in a Heartbeat -- #MFRWauthor Week 11
5 Tasks I’d Give Up in a Heartbeat — #MFRWauthor Week 11
Welcome to week 11 of the Marketing for Romance Writers (MFRW) 52-week blog challenge. This week’s prompt is “If I never had to do this task again…” It’s an intriguing prompt, I think. I can think of a gazillion or so tasks I’d willingly give up forEVER if I could, so I’m thinking that writing this week’s blog post will actually be kind of easy. The hard part will be narrowing it down to only 5.…

Things Only My Family Would Understand -- #MFRWauthor Week 10
Things Only My Family Would Understand — #MFRWauthor Week 10
It’s been a while since my last post. I had every intention of keeping up with this year’s blog challenge and other things, too, but I just spent 2 1/2 months with my daughter and grandkids while my son-in-law was out of the country working, and the weeks just got away from me. I’m not sure why they did. My daughter works. My grandkids go to school. I was at home alone most of every day during…

What I Would Do If I Couldn't Write -- #MFRWauthor Week 4
What I Would Do If I Couldn’t Write — #MFRWauthor Week 4
Welcome to Week#4 of the Marketing for Romance Writers blog challenge for 2018. This week’s prompt is: What I Would Do if I Couldn’t Be a Writer. Before I get started, maybe I should explain my blog post title from last week since apparently I confused a lot of people. And here I was thinking it made perfect sense 🙂  Seriously, I struggled with the blog post title…a lot. I was trying for clever,…

Ugh! Algebra! — #MFRWauthor Week 3
Welcome to week 3 of the 2018 Marketing for Romance Writers 52-week blog challenge. This week’s prompts is: How much of myself is in my writing? Before I get started with this week’s blog post, can I just say that I’m struggling here? My daughter and granddaughters came to visit for Christmas, and then I came back home with them for an extended visit. I had to leave my new puppy behind in the…

A Trip Down Memory Lane - #MFRWauthor Week 2
A Trip Down Memory Lane – #MFRWauthor Week 2
It’s Friday, which means that it’s time for another blog post from the Marketing for Romance Writers blog challenge. This week’s prompt is My Earliest Memory. I had a great childhood for the most part. My parents created a fun world for us to live in, took us on vacations every year and created memories for us like champions. As a result, I have a gazillion memories I could share… But trying to…

It's My Favorite - #MFRWauthor Week 1
It’s My Favorite – #MFRWauthor Week 1
Happy New Year and welcome to a whole new blogging challenge. We had so much fun participating in the Marketing for Romance Writers 52-Week Blogging Challenge in 2017, a bunch of us wanted to keep going. So here we are at the start of a brand-new year. This week’s prompt: Favorite Thing I’ve Written — and Why. One of the things I enjoyed about last year’s blogging challenge was that s many of the…

If You Want My Advice... -- #MFRWauthor
If You Want My Advice… — #MFRWauthor
Hello and Happy Friday! It’s ween 51 of the Marketing for Romance Writers 52-week blog challenge, and this week’s prompt is Advice to New Authors. Well, okay, but remember, you asked for it. The advice I’d give new authors today is vastly different from the advice I would have given twenty years ago. Back then, I thought all a writer needed was a plan, a little skill, some talent, and some…
