This project has been one which has helped me experience the life of a prop designer maker. I think from all of this project I have found the making part  the most stressful , however I have also enjoyed it the most as I have learnt a lot of new skills. I really love seeing a design come to life and also using my imagination to create the prop using bits of material you wouldn't expect to be used.
I found Einstein's dreams really interesting, I love the idea of having different dimensions of time , and the fact that it was set in 1905 made the book a great period piece with a twist. When I first read the book I highlighted interesting areas and then picked 6 story's which took my interest the most. These were 1.april 26th - houses on stilts 2.may 20th - loss of memory 3.22d may - world of changed plans 4.29th may - for all is in motion 5.2nd June time goes backwards 6.28th June - catching birds.
I found Einstein's dreams really interesting, I love the idea of having different dimensions of time , and the fact that it was set in 1905 made the book a great period piece with a twist. When I first read the book I highlighted interesting areas and then picked 6 story's which took my interest the most. these were 1.april 26th - houses on stilts 2.may 20th - loss of memory 3.22d may - world of changed plans 4.29th may - for all is in motion 5.2nd June time goes backwards 6.28th June - catching birds.
from piking these story's I then began to collect research and creating small sketches of props which I could make from these stories' then looked more into 2 story which I felt had the most potential. These were May 29th and June 28th.i found these stories were very quirky and I could design a interesting period sifi piece from both stories.
after a few designs for a bird trap which the people of the town could use in June 28th to capture there birds for unlimited time , I began to feel more interested in a period moving object with a quirky twist. The back story which intrested me in may 29th was ,Mr Randolph who experimented with the theory of rapid transportation.i thought that a bike could be one of the inventions which he used to study his theory. So  from this I began to look at old wacky bikes and inventions which were very different to anything I have seen in the modern age. I also had the image of wood, cogs and making my items out of bits of clocks and cogs which would tie in the time theme.
The bike designs caught my eye and I also found that steam punk design also is the theme which I had in mind for a bike from May 29th. The bike will be made up of old wood, bits and bobs, clock and old bits of copper to make the bike look as if it had a working machine on it.
Through many designs and a couple of models I realised that the most important aspect to this design in the frame and wheels. I decided to make my bike look like a penny farthing, as it fits with the time period but I wanted to add a object which would make it look like there was a machine on the back.so by looking through my garden I found old car part and pluming which I could clean and use to create a wacky machine for the back of my bike.
Once I had a design I could work with I then began to make my bike.i began with the wheels marking them out and cutting them with the jigsaw however they were not perfectly round. To solve this I made a jig which I could attach the router to create a perfect circle. Once this was done. Using a grinder I sanded and cut a large piece of 2 by 4 for my main frame. The biggest problem I had with this bike was the forks as I did not no how a bikes front forks worked, so I had to create a model, get advice on how to make the forks and then look at real bikes to understand the design. I realise now I should have done this before I started to make the bike.
By my first week of making I had a frame to my bike , the next challenge was to add my bits of machinery. I had an idea of how I wanted this to fit together however once I lay it on the bike I realised I may have to re-design to get my machinery to 1. Link and look like a working machine, and 2.fit on to the bike. This was a challenge but it was great to be creative and rearrange the materials to look more realistic.
For the last couple of days before taking my bike in I also added some detail of painting the bike with stain and also making the front wheel look like an old clock which linked into the time theme. I have also added light bulbs which would light up the faster you could peddle and a clock to calculate the theory. These details really made the bike come to life and I think it has turned out great and I can really see this design being in an old periodic film set for a family audience.
The other part of the project which I have had to reflect over it my report. I actually really enjoyed this report as I had the chance to look back on the skills which I have learnt in my time with TPE and I found that I learnt a different skill or lesson from each project. I have also been involved in the workshop which have been given to use over this project and I feel that they did help me understand different areas which I could develop in .I hope I can continue to broaden my skills and learn as much as I can from the course and experiences before leaving.
This project has helped me realise that I really do enjoy working within the prop industry , either being a maker or designer. I may make this my focus in my third year  and I hope I can learn more  with the more props I get to make.

last week summary - week 6
week 6 - 27-29th
sunday26th- after speeding a lot of time polishing , cleaning and painting the items, today I managed to get my items onto my bike , the most difficult thing about this was that I wanted to make sure that  all the bits linked with each other , making the bike look like it could actually work as a machine. I did lay out my bits before cleaning and had a idea of how it could fit , however after giving it more thought and through trial and error of how I could attach my items I decided that the best way was to either screw or insert the items into the base of my bike.
Monday27th-once all the parts  were on I then could focous on painting the wheels to my bike. at first I was going to use the router and make groves for sporckets on the bike without cutting the middle out so there was still strength in the wheel. However once I made the rim and the inner circle for  the wheel I decided against this and wanted to paint a pattern instead. I went through a few designs before deciding to paint a old fashioned clock on both sides , fitting in with the time theme. I have also to decided to paint the frame a dark old wood stain to do this I first tried to paint it with normal acrylic however I really didn't like the  colour, the lesson I learnt from this feel I should have done a test piece first. I did fix this mistake  by getting proper wood stain to paint my bike.
Tuesday 28th-
today was my last chance to get my final touches done on the bike as I will be taking it in tomorrow. The touches were the light bulbs, a clock and gluing wires into the bike , I was also going to add cogs however after trying multiple times to get them to look right I have decided that it would ruin the finish and have left them off. If I were to make them again I would find a pattern from the internet and use the laser cutter to cut out my wooden cogs , also on thinner wood and it was even very difficult to sand because of there thickness.
Wednesday29th-
today I would like to take my bike to university, I will mostly be focusing on what I have left to do which is my presentation , evaluation , small sketches in my sketchbook, a story board , add final photos to my book and lastly if I have time to draw up a technical drawing.
this week I am very glad to get the bike done and see my design come to life. I still do not no whether I enjoy designing or making more but I have enjoyed doing this project as I really like fantasy props and feel I will defiantly continue to design ,make and enjoy props.

weekly summary - week 5
20-26th
This week has been challenging as I have been learning a lot of new skills  while making my bike and using a lot more electrical tools as well to give a better finish.
this week has been all about the making of my bike , which has meant a lot of trial and error in my design. The biggest problem was how to get my bike to move in the ways I wanted. however once I had done this I could just screw parts ( metal objects) on which didn't have to move. I had to make sure that I measured all my wood to the exact measurement and made them accurate as they would not fit or would have to be adjusted  which wasted a lot of time, I think even though this is a obvious lesson ,this the biggest one I have learnt over making this bike.
Sunday 27th-
today I have made added the extra bits to my bike ( metal parts ) and have found that I have had to adjust my design in ways to make the objects fit and link  together to give the appearance of it being a working machine. I have not yet added any wooden cogs . this is because the cogs which I made have not cut out as well as I would have hoped and have been very difficult to make , I feel if I was to make them again I would use a laser cutter and make them accurate instead of free hand making them. I also noticed  that when I added all of my cogs onto the bike it looked over worked and I had to find how they would link to make sense to make the machine work.I also have not added the bulbs yet  as I do not want the bulbs to smash on the way to university on Wednesday.
I do feel slightly behind at the minute however I will continue to work and finish my bike to the best of my abilities.intend to paint it to get it to look more refined and add the bulbs on when I get to university on Wednesday 29th.
my report is now finish and it has been great to reflect on the last couple of years in tpe and it has really shown me the skills and experiences I have already had.
I have decided to make a technical drawing which I will make after my bike as I think I do need  to enhance my technical drawing techniques and show I can accomplish what a prop designer would do. I also have to still make a story board and finish  my rvj by adding drawings from throughout my making which I have done.
I will then finish with final photos of the prop and add a location which I would image the prop to be in. I am very excited to see the final prop and feel I have learnt a lot by making it.

Weekly Summary Week 4
13th -19th
for this week I have been continuing to design for my prop bike. After a tutorial with Lara I feel much more confident on what I will be making and how I can go about this. I have also come to the conclusion that this bike will be a invention which Mr Randolph has made to test his theory of rapid transportation , and is testing the theory using a peddle power bike.as I have this backstory I will take what I learnt this week with rod and mike which is how to storyboard and make a storyboard of my own.
I have continued to look at the frame and wheels of the bike and constructed a few white card models to look at structure  and how pieces of the bike should work ( forks ext.) these have helped my understand how my bike could work. from this I will start to construct my bike out of pieces of wood and old scrap metal.
at my tutorial I was advised to make a technical drawing for my piece and a setting which the bike could be in , If I have time I would like to do this as it would give the bike more context and I show how I could translate my idea clearly to a maker. If I do have time to do this I would also use this in my presentation which would help to translate my design to the staff team.
One of  this issues I have not yet figured out is from my design of bits of mechanics on my bike , what will move , make sounds , what  lights will flashing and why. I think that once I have constructed a story board it might help me understand what pieces should do what.I also think that once I have pieces constructed it will allow me to see what would be able to move and also what bits of the bikes could control machines ( eg which cogs from peddles control light blubs). All this information is what I will present to the staff team , on how I think it should look with this help off special effects and the technical team.
Throughout all of the next week I will be constructing my prop in full detail. starting with the wheels and frame. I will try and keep the cost to the minimal using items from my home and garden. I think that most of the bike will not work but will just be for show as I have not got enough time to make the technical working pieces.
Tuesday -21st
today I have finished the frame work to my bike ( wheels x3 ,forks which work ,handlebars ) , which is a little behind then I would have liked however  the forks work so I can turn my bike which makes the bike look great and feel like a working bike. as tomorrow i have download i will be focusing on my report and sb.by Friday I would like the seat ,bumper on , polished metal bits bobs and begin screwing my mechanics on .I feel I will be able to complete my prop on time with full detail I may even paint detail on as well to give a extra finish.

Weekly summary week 3
6th - 12th
At the beginning of the week I was very confused on what path I should take with my prop wither it be either  June 28th or may 29th. I was also not convinced on how I should design my prop , what style or form should it take. However after having a action learning set  and workshops I feel more confident in how I will approach my design and prop build.
I have decided that the story I find more exciting and has more potential is may 29th ' all is in motion'. the discussion in the action learning set was what could this bike do , are there multiples or just one , still based of made by parts of clocks , could be a time machine to jump from different story's.
Through the week I have looked at all these aspects designed a bike which I feel could be one of the inventions which Mr Randolph tested for his theory of rapid transportation. This machine could travel very fast and making the time on the bike travel slower.
Another theory is this bike is a time machine which  people could hire out as there are multiples of them, using the peddle power on the bike you could travel to different times of your life.
While designing my bike I have also been interested in the steam punk style as I feel that this  is the type of design I was thinking of , using old parts and creating this machine just as someone was inventing , however I will also be including wooden cogs with a da Vinci style.
I think the most important thing about the bike looking back across the ages is 1 the frame and its style, and 2 the wheels size and style. so I have been experimenting with these aspects and I think the old style of the penny farthing bike took my interest the most and as this story is set in the 1800-1900 I feel this would be appropriate.
I have also been looking at the materials which I can use and most importantly afford and get hold of so I first started in my back garden with my workshop where my dad keeps a lot of old bits and bobs. after gathering these materials I found that it may be that I design with these items in mind and see how they fit together to create the look I would like.
I will be continuing my designs for another day or so to get a final design of the frame and wheels  as I think the more accrete I can get my design the easier the process of the making will become.
However I do feel like I am running out of time and do need to get making my prop as I need time for error which I have learnt from previous projects!
As I have had problems at home this week ,to calm my nerves of my time keeping  I have been keeping lists of what I need to do and ticking of my days of my action plan. I have also been doing parts of my report so it will gather and become one whole.
I need to continue to do this making sure I do not forget to do my report and leaving time for my presentation.

summary week 2
29th-5th
This week I have continued my development to look at incorporating clock arts into my work. Using pictures of clock parts I have come up with a few initial sketches to make weird motion devises and bird traps/cages.
I have also been looking closer into what story's I would like to focus on which were may 29th 'for all is in motion' , and JUNE 28th 'trap a nightingale in a bell jar and time stops'.i feal I could get the most out of these storys to invent my props , wether it be a mode of transport or time travel or  some type of catching devise for the birds.i feal the more sketches I do the more I can deside on my choice of story.
I have also been focousing on my report this week and I feal that my layout will be
intro , L4- list all projects individualy
festivals
L5- list all projects individualy looking at what I used from the fist project including what I learnt that was new.
iip- link with festivals and work experiences
present
future development
conclusion
actionplan- bullet pointed
reading list
to continue my decelopment I will be chosing a story so I can get a clearer picture of the prop I would like to make and its function/ role within the scene. what it will do and how it will work.
I will also be looking at how I can start to construct my prop what materials to use and begin to make smaller modles of my design.

WEEKLY SUMMARY -week 1
22nd-28th
To begin this project we had to develop a proposal  and a action plan on how we were going to organise our time.my proposal is :
Main aims: (this should include a. what area of the industry you want to focus on, e.g. play adaptation, and b. what you want to do, e.g. complete set and costume design.)
The main aims of my project will be to design and develop a selection of props in a series of stories within the chosen text ‘Einstein’s dreams’. I will firstly design my props working through a number of designs; I will then continue extensive development of the concept, with experimentation to develop my design creating smaller less detailed models. Finally a series of full sized props which could be used within the film or theatre industry.
Assessable tasks: (What you will produce for us to assess and how will this fulfil the learning outcomes? e.g. a 1:25 set model and full set of costume designs, with accompanying RVJ.)
I will design and develop 4 props from a series of stories form ‘Einstein’s dreams’. This will include a RVJ which will include research within the chosen props catalyst, initial designs .summary’s, evaluations, final designs and pictures of the final props .Smaller scale models. Of the intended props. And 4 3d full sized props. I will then also construct a presentation to present this design to the staff team in a professional manor.
  1. Analysis (outcome 1) – thoroughly analyse the text selected  of  ‘Einstein’s Dreams’ byAlan Lightman
  2. Research (outcome 2) – research a broad range of relevant time periods, themed environments, props and materials that will translate my research into my design development.
  3. Design development (outcome 3) –to select and utilise appropriate 2D and 3D media and materials that will best communicate my prop designs.
  4. Final designs (outcome 4)-Make and develop the minimum of 4 full sized props which can be used in the film or theatre industry.
  5. Professional presentation (outcome 5) –  to present my design to the staff team in a sufficient  and professional way.
after a action set meeting I feel I will focus on film props as they are more detailed and  I feel this is important in a prop. I will also only make 1 large prop , and models of 2 other props as I would like my final prop to be detailed and properly developed.
To begin this project I began to analyse the book going through each story and finding one quote to describe what happens in the story. I then highlighted 14 which I would like to focus on .I then re read these story's and picked 6 which I could use to develop props from.
I then continued my research to look at Einstein ,time and different aspects which are involved In these 6 story's. This has lead me to look at da Vinci's inventions using old methods of wood and cogs and the contrast on new futuristic inventions.
I feel that  I need to continue my research throughout my development and I will move on to look at how I could incorporate the aspect of time in my props , using clock and watch parts to actually construct my prop.

START ON REPORT
I WILL FIRST WRITE SMALL EVALUATIONS REFLECTING ON THE PROJECTS.ONCE I HAVE DONE THIS I WILL MERGE THE PROJECTS TOGETHER , ( PARA L4 ,L5 ,PRESENT DEVELOPMENT ,  FUTURE DEVELOPMENT ,ACTION PLAN , READING LIST)
4.  The Report, Action Plan and Reading List – (outcome 4) to include:
2000 words (plus or minus 10%), reflective in its approach, about your learning to date in L4 and L5, with an action plan and reading list to support your route for exploration in L6.
      Introduction
In this report I will be reflecting on my learning to date in L4 and L5.i will begin talking about L4 and L5 and the project in which they entailed. I will analyse and reflect on the projects finding out what I have learnt from my experiences and what I would like to continue to develop in the future.
  L4
  Theatre Design Principles
This was the first project we had in L4  and one which I think I learnt a lot from as it was and still is the lowest marked out of all my projects. I found it very difficult to analyse a Shakespeare play in a set/costume designers mind set. And I feel that if  I were to do this project again I would research theatre set designers to establish what they do and how they work, I would then research more into the time period of the project. Looking back at this project I feel that I have learnt to make sure I know what how a designer works and get into that mind-set.
Figure In Space
Figure in space was our first group projects which we had to design, make and collaborate which although I found it very stressful I actually really enjoyed being a part of a team and creating such a amazing set. Through this project we were also introduced to Holly Swine which I now still collaborate with for festivals.
I think this project made me realise that you can use any materials to create a design, no matter how big. I also learnt a very valuable lesson on group collaboration, which is that I have to allow myself to take a step back and trust others with the work load and decisions. i tried to continue to develop this realisation  further in our Collaborative Practice project (L5).
                  The Performance
As a former performer, I really enjoyed this project and the process of   designing and making as a team, after the first attempt at team work wasn’t quite as I expected in the figure in space project. It was also our first chance to make and preform with puppets which I found a really good experience and brought out my inner child.
For the performance I also helped with the stage management, which I feel I learnt the most from even if it was such a small part. This was because although I have performed many times from just a few people to hundreds I have never really got involved in the stage management. It opened my eyes to the amount of organisation which has to be for even a small performance. I think from being involved in this it also has helped and will help me as a designer understand the roles in the theatre business and to consider how my design affects the other roles.

work expericne- Love and marraige -ITV -tiger aspect
After haveing the opportunity to work with the props team which work for tiger aspect i was then invited back  by the designer to see the filming on set which i had been working on.
When arriving at the assembly rooms in lemington where the set was i was first introduces to holly which 'shown me the rope'.When i first sore the set befor filming i thought it looked amazing and portrayed egsactly whay it needed to.Secondly i was very shocked to see how meny people were apart of the team to film the series and the meny diffrent jobs needed. My role was to help the standbys in the prop team , mostly looking at continuity ( for some scenes i had to stand behind a curtain which was covering a fire door just so it would not be blown by the wind to keep continuity!)
Being part of the team made me realise how orgainesd every thing was and how everyperson had a role , even if it was as small as mine of a coffie run to keep the higher roles awake from long nights and early mornings.Everyone on set was lovely and all kept in great spirits even though you could see how stressful the jobs they had were.If one person was not on the ball constantly then the filming could be delayed , i had to make sure i knew when not to be on the set and watching the screens as it would take around 5 mins to do a scene change and everyone would get up and do there job , then within a flash i could hear - CLEAR SET PLEASE , QUIET AND ACTION.
I did like the excitment of being on set to film for such a famous company , and the teams i worked with on both experiences were very nice ,welcoming and understanding. Through the experience i still do not no what area i would like to work in , as i do enjoy makeing , however the reality of being apart of the filming is also great.
i have been asked if i would like more work in the future then i can give them a call which i am very excited to do !

Evaluation
Throughout this project I have focused my attention on the history and making parts of London’s Madame Tussauds and trying to figure out how I can incorporate technology which will be used in Tussauds 2023.
I first started my project researching new technology including projection, 3d printing , interactive screens ,simulators, augmented reality  and high tech robots. Then I began analysing the areas I feel would need  de designing in Tussauds .From my personal visit i found that the areas I were most interested in were the areas which needed the most work , these were 1. Red carpet – this is the first area you go through in Tussauds , it is very small and has little decoration ,text ,interaction also the models need updating.2. The history area – this did not tell you the story clearly, too much text and not enough interaction.3. The making – after visiting the merlin studios I could clearly see that there could have been more interaction and a better way of showing the making and also getting the audience to have a go themselves using an interactive screen.
My initial ideas involved a simulator room or a room which could be transformed with projection into showing the story of Madame Tussauds success. I then began to add the interactive screen to my room so that I would still be keeping the history and making together as this is how it is in London’s exhibition .However I began to research more tech and realise I could involve a lot of tech and include the very important wax works if I began to spread my idea wider using two different rooms , one for history and then leading the making.
Through a lecture we were introduced to Museums on the move, which was were museums have been made inside small transport so they could spread the word and share this history with many different audiences .This then made me think of how I could use the cart which Madame Tussauds travelled Britain in as the projections simulator for the history section. However I first though that this idea was not practical as having the cart in the room would mean that I would have to incorporate another ‘corridor’ for people who did not what to experience the simulator. After talking with lara she suggested using this cart and using a ramp instead of stairs so it would be easily accessible for everyone.
As I continued to develop my design I began to add more detail including posters, wax works and a 3d printer this helped me gain more skills on sketch up. Then by creating scenes for my design I could export my journey and I could add it to my presentation.
To conclude my design I have created two rooms, one will include a projector simulator in the form of Tussauds cart, there will also be poster and pictures of the old Madame Tussauds and old wax works.my second room will be round to make it easier to look around and take in the information, this room will include a interactive screen with a button to turn your creation into a hologram, then a 3d scanner and printer to scan guests heads so they can take their own 3d head home. The last and most important there will be pictures and figures made by the sculptures live to show the process of the figures. The two rooms will become one whole journey with little text and a lot of visuals.
I have struggled to develop this design and I feel that I should have researched more into the new technology and other Tussauds around the world. I think I could have  looked a bit further ‘out the box’ as I felt stuck for a lot of the project trying to incorporate my design into the existing building, but when I ventured out this mind set my idea did begin to develop further. I have enjoyed researching about Tussauds and realising how much skill goes into these figures and I feel I have made a design which will show this process in a interesting way using the new technology for Tussauds 2023.

Summary week 7
  Summary 7
Over the last few weeks I have had a couple of tutorials and have been looking back at my brief and I have realised that i should make to separate rooms as one whole experience ,  using a rectangular room,a old cart which will be turned into a projection simulator which will show the tussauds history and make it easy to take in to portray the history  , and then move on to a round room to portray the making , including the interactive screen ,a 3d head scanner and printer , and a area where a live maker will be making a model.
I am currently trying to figure out how I can make a walk through on my sketchup design so I can show the journey which the audience will go through and how it will look from the audience prospective.
I have also thought of adding a whole model which will be split into sections to show the process of the wax work , like a autopsy. This limits the text needed to explain the process.
I still have to develop my sketch up a lot and add more details into it maybe including wax works posters and pictures from the older tussauds in a modern way .
I will also be making my presentation which I will add the walkthrough on, however I still have to find how to do this. I want to include in my presentation: what I think of the current history and making area, tech I have looked at and may use, initial sketches and ideas, use of the ipad for a demonstration of the software, final ideas and then the walk through with time for questions at the end.

Summary week 5,6
Summary 5,6
I have now a defined idea of what I want to include in my design and  how I would like to show the story and making of tussauds , however I still don't no weather to keep it as one room or to make my design two which would make the rooms more off a experience. I think if I go for two rooms I may be able to put a lot of detail in and wax works which may work better for the experience.
I will definitely be including a touch screen wall in my design were you will be able to try and carve a sculpture for yourself and then project in on to a hologram to  see it in 3d , I will also be adding projection of the story of madame tussauds ,however I do not no whether to project it onto surrounding walls which would have to be quite plane or to have a separate area so I will continue to develop  this.
I have also been looking more into  exhibition design and I feel that I should be using a round room to make it easier to see the information. I feel if you are in a round room you will instantly turn round and look around the room and it also makes you feel more comftable.i have also been introduced in Laras lecture to museums on the move which I thought was interesting as they have packed all that history into a small space .The caravan in particular was very interesting. I did have a idea to use the madame tussauds cart for the projection area but I do not think this will work as it will mean everybody will have to go through the cart this may not be practical.

Summary week 3,4
Summary  3,4
I have recently been looking at how I can incorporate  wax works into my design and what technology would best portray what I want to express.
Holograms have interested me to put into my design as I think if you could have a talking cleb or even a figure you may have made yourself and projected as a hologram could be interesting. Holograms have recently been developed mostly using the old trick of peppers ghost but in a more 3d form.
I have also found that I may be able to project onto the figures to make it seem they are talking , as in the history case I could use Tussauds old figures and it will appear that they are telling the story  of her life. Or I could add the death masks to the wall and this would have the same effect .However this may not be good for the figures  as I might make them deter quicker and as they are the main aspect I would not want to ruin them.
Through the next couple of weeks I feel I should look more at interactive technology and to reavaluate my design as do not no wither to have a simple room with a lot of projection or a detailed room with little projection or just a room separate for the projection journey.
I will also look more into the  interactive wall I would like to incorporate in my room and how it could work.
