Laurel and Crow
4 posts
Over the mountains flew the crow with a single laurel to rest upon the writer's brow. So the writer turned to ask the crow, "Am I a hero or a traitor?" even if the writer already knew the answer was both.

After how long all of us have spent discussing Gerald/Geordo/Jeord/etc's various names I think we all just have the accept the fact this this man is the Benedict Cumberbatch of the hamefura fandom and has no true name. If I called him Gazebo I鈥檓 pretty sure the whole fandom would still know exactly who I was talking about.聽
I would absolutely love to hear everyone else鈥檚 favorite names for him.

So a lot of people talk about how a really good ending would be Katarina just starting a farm with her multiple lovers and living happily ever after away from society and some among those have even mentioned Katarina accidentally kick starting the agricultural revolution. I would like to purpose a simple key factor in deciding what Katarina鈥檚 future should be:
Japan鈥檚 really weird fruit culture.
Everyone talks about square watermelons and white strawberries, but a lot of people don鈥檛 realize just how far down that rabbit hole well and truly goes. People will spend between 100 and 1000 dollars (equivalently in usd) on nice fruit as a gift depending on various factors. Those same square watermelons usually cost around 200 usd and upwards (excluding the imperfect ones which are sold at a crazy discount). Out of the 200 melons that are produced they鈥檙e often used more as a status symbol than for eating.聽
Now we have Katarina who is absolutely thrilled to become a farmer. Katarina who grew up in this culture for 17 years before being yeeted into otome death game. Look me in the eyes and tell me Katarina wouldn鈥檛 see the fact there is no patent on square watermelons and use all five of her brain cells to grow one and suddenly gift it to the King. She wouldn鈥檛 even tell anyone she鈥檚 doing it, she wouldn鈥檛 ask for help. This woman can very well be intelligent, especially when it comes to exceedingly pointless things like how to make a watermelon square. I am convinced that Katarina, as soon as she got skilled at farming, started giving away fruit as gifts (to her mother鈥檚 mortification). I鈥檓 entirely in the deepest parts of my soul convinced Katarina would figure out how to magic herself a fancy greenhouse (or Giovannia and the gang would do it for her) and would grow fruit and veggies with strange and foreign methods that would catch like wildfire which would inevitably result in a surplus of foodstuffs which would be a benefit in both trade with foreign powers and the feeding of less fortunate populations within the Kingdom.聽
And of course because it鈥檚 Katarina, her friends all just kind of go along with it? Oh, she鈥檚 giving us fruit on strange holidays I鈥檝e never heard of in my life? Guess what, it exists now, take your fruit and say thank you. In exchange they bring her gifts of rare fruit and veg seeds and cutting to cultivate. Jeo-whatever goes away on a business trip and comes back with like asian pears or something and Katarina nearly bursts into tears because she missed them so badly. An entire species of banana doesn鈥檛 go extinct because Katarina says so. She sometimes ends up with massive snakes and spiders in her produce and she just kind of vibes with them to everyone鈥檚 horror. Katarina鈥檚 charm works on any living creature with the singular exception of everything within the canine family
Katarina is first and foremost a farmer of vegetables. But God, you cannot tell me that woman wouldn鈥檛 accidentally start a revolution with fruit as well.聽

FL!Maria, calmly making muffins to the best of her abilities: I sure hope everyone in the student council likes these! I put a ton of hard work into them :)
Hamefura!Maria, desperately trying every recipe she can get her hands on: She鈥檚 mine, Giovanni, your fiance is mine and you can鈥檛 have her back. Even if I have to spend the next 24 hours straight making this super rare foreign dessert I will do it for my beloved鈥檚 smiling face as she inhales that 24 hours worth of work in all of five minutes.聽
This might already be obvious to some people, but my headcanon is that Hamefura!Maria can bake waaaay better than Fortune Lover!Maria.
FL!Maria obviously improves her baking skills over time, but is pretty happy enough to be appreciated by the student council for her delicious cookies and muffins. She gets slowly better each time, and does desire to improve for her preferred love interest, but is happy that the basic recipes that she and her mother used to bake are appreciated by nobles, so she doesn鈥檛 do much to change them.聽
Hamefura!Maria tries every new recipe she can in order to improve her techniques and improve the flavors of her baked treats, as she needs it in order to impress Katarina (especially when she鈥檚 against nobles and royals who can afford better treats than what she can bake).聽 When Katarina eats the treats that Maria bakes, she can see the love in her eyes as she inhales them all; she鈥檚 very happy to be appreciated for her hobby and wants to improve in order to satisfy herself and Katarina.聽
Both are good and improves well over the course of their stay in the academy, but one of them has found the motivation into creating delicious masterpieces in order to gain the attention of their crush.聽
