30-something, she/they pronouns. I still pretend to know what I'm doing most of the time. I'm just a chaotic mess pretending to have it somewhat together. I like listening and trying to help. I like the arts, crafts, languages, body positivity, outer space, and podcasts. I don't have time for bigotry, mysogyny, nazism, or racism. I am always down for a nap.

seeing so many people surprised at how X or Y author could be a zionist when they mostly write like uprisings YA books, fascist/totalitarian government as enemies, etc makes me realize now more than ever how important it is that we actually understand where these people are coming from, what their thought process is like to be able to dissect it and point the wrongs and its fallacies, because to me it's very easy to see how this happens quite frequently, for example conservatives are known to believe they're the victims of a bigger hidden power (big pharma, the gender ideology agenda, ISIS, etc) and they're the only people able to see the truth and fight for their and their children's lives. Likewise, zionists (israeli zionists especially) truly do believe that the entire Palestine is their land that was taken away from them thousand of years ago and that they're landless people who are persecuted all over their world for their religion and need this land to lock themselves away for safety, that is their myth of creation (every country has one especially colonized countries), and the palestinians are seen as the people who want to kill them/their children. It is very easy to see how this is a fallacy because in real life what happens is the other way round, Israel is a colonizer european state that has been systematically murdering and wiping out Palestine for over 80 years, however Israelis still believe they're these national warriors fighting against "injustice" and "resisting" for their land, like Katniss vs the Capitol . Understanding is not agreeing, understanding how they think is key to be able to dismantle zionism or any other far right ideas and keep them from spreading out more

Stop asking candidates if they “believe in” climate change and start asking if they understand it.
It’s science, not Santa Claus.

tell me your country hot takes i want to hear them
been sitting on this ask for ages bc i forgot but it’s time to yap now:
People who say they only listen to pre 911 country music are somehow more obnoxious than people who say they don’t listen to any country. also they’re usually posers who only know cash and dolly parton dhsjkflhj
even growing up in a southern state it was very typical to hear “oh i like every genre but country” (or country and rap, but unpacking the roots of racism and stigma against rap & country when the genre was invented by black people is a whole different post)
the anti-country-style stigma, at least pre 9-11, largely came from classism against rural americans being seen as dirty poor and uneducated, and so were their instruments! (think the fiddle style of violin, the washboard, the banjo, the harmonica, etc)
(side note it’s cracking me up the thought of calling people country music posers)
country music is also tied into comedy music, and a lot of the things that people make fun of country music for tends to be the genre making fun of itself or a tongue-in-cheek way of saying non-country folks don’t “get us”
I was listening to an NPR radio thing a few months ago about the controversy of a journalist saying Beyoncé(‘s country album) is exhibiting extremely effective American propaganda
(which i think part of the controversy surrounding is partially people believing that propaganda is something they shouldn’t like inherently, when, that’s not true…)
but also, of course, the way that this comes up as soon as a black superstar “goes country” and not seen nearly on the same scale with her white country artist contemporaries.
so, acknowledging that, objectively nobody in the country music scene right now has NEARLY even close to the same amount of reach and power as Beyoncé does in music.
and i would argue a large part of that is due to the changing landscape of america, young people’s music tastes, and cultural ideology in a post-post-9/11 world. bear with me here
I would argue propaganda of pro-america military country after the iraq invasion doesn’t hold quite the same weight anymore. of course, there’s still gonna be a lot of pro maga country clinging onto the mainstream & power in the country music industry. but. idk. i’ll admit, maybe i’m just not listening to the toby keith crowd as much so i’m in my own little happy world of orville peck and trixie mattel, but the fact that that own little world even Exists is a huge step up from the early 2000s country scene
And I think Beyoncé is part of a group of spearheading country maybe.. more experimental artists trying new things like the fusion of hip hop and country and also revitalizing country for black southerners, queer southerners, and other disenfranchised groups who kind of had country taken away from them.
Like i think lil nas X, despite his departure from his breakout in country (completely justified) is also a part of this movement. artists like shaboozey and orville peck and chappell roan and luke comb’s fast car cover are all pushing mainstream country towards something besides american patriotism. also of course the chicks have been on this since the 90s & never once stopped protesting the iraq war even when it blew up their career at the time. everybody go listen to the chicks.

begging this site to watch The Librarians: The Next Chapter like. y'all it's got everything this site complains about missing from older TV. it's got charmingly mediocre 2000s-doctor-who-esque CGI magic every single episode. it's Villain (and/or MacGuffin Artifact) of the Week. one of these villains includes the Devil (a 12 year old girl wearing a headband of Party City-quality black horns). it's Found Family. it's Chosen Found Family. they literally "i am spartacus" each other into saving the day one time because They Are A Family And They Love Each Other So Much It Kills The Bad Guy. it's campy and low-stakes and Hijinks Abound. even with only twelve episodes (so far) they take the time to go "okay here's how THIS pair of main characters works together and here's how THAT pair works together" and so on and so forth for. basically every pair that makes up The Four Of Them. they regularly defeat villains with The Power Of Friendship and Family and Love. it's a reboot/spinoff/sequel series that actually keeps the vibe of where the original series left off. there's even a femslash ship. it's literally 12 eps of Everything People Want Back From 2000s TV and yet i go in the tag and there's about nine active people. that's just not right

Today round ass puppy revealed to me, exhausted, at the end of my rope, that her training wasn't working not because she didn't understand, she did, she did, but instead because treats, chicken, turkey and pork apparently weren't enough motivation. She began obeying every word with startling accuracy as soon as she was offered something else. Doing backflips and stunts with pyrotechnics as prompted for the promise of a pea. A pea. She's a dog. A pea. A pea. A pea. I have to carry peas around now. On my person. Personal peas. 🫛 peas

Did we just lose $7B for solar? The Trump administration plans to claw back some $7 billion in grant funding for solar energy, its latest attack on renewable energy in the US. What are the grants for? The money the administration is targeting is intended to help with solar panel installation for low- and middle-income households and has been awarded to 60 entities, including 49 state agencies, as part of the Solar for All program. The program is a legacy of the Inflation Reduction Act, the 2022 law that dedicated nearly $370 billion to clean energy, electric vehicle tax breaks, and more. Can the administration do this? We’re going to find out. While Congress successfully clawed back money from unobligated Solar for All grants in last month’s recissions package, this funding has already been awarded. That makes terminating the grants less straightforward, and the move is likely to be challenged in lawsuits. http://news.usaunify.org/TMKRVL http://news.usaunify.org/TMKRbp

There is literally no circumstance where I support age verification to access a website. As I've said before I'm very much the "there's nuance here" person on almost everything but on this issue there's no nuance for me, it's awful and horrible in and of itself and it also sets an awful and horrible precedent
