Fri 2:55 Sant Jordi
a week since I arrived in europe. I’ve been having such a blast that I haven’t really had the time to reflect and think about what i’ve experienced. I started off in manchester, the theatre of dreams. Visting old trafford was a bittersweet feeling. Its something else visiting it in person. Its almost unreal. You gotta realize its a place that I dreamed about going ever since I was a kid. Some of the best players in the world suited up for manchester united. Experiencing it first hand is something else. I’ve met a few mates since my arrival. The friendships alone are worth the trip. You can’t put a price on experiences. You can’t put a price on friendship. I wore my mexico jersey to the man utd game and when I checked into the hostel I was stopped by someone who called me out. Turns out he was also Mexican but from SoCal. We immediately became buds. He told me that music brought him to Manchester. He was so passionate about The Smiths and all these other rock bands specifically from Manchester. I told him I came for the football. Its crazy how far something so passionate to you can drive you to do anything. Honestly that’s what life is all about. Believing in yourself and following your passion. To him it was music, to me it was football. Either way we were sharing a unique moment.
A few days later he showed up at the lounge with a few more mates. He introduced me to a Chilean, Uruguayan & someone from Veracruz. We went to a few pubs and hit the town. We went back to the hostel and played pool. At one moment I took a step back and looked around… “We will never have another moment like this together. After tonight who knows if we’ll ever share another moment like this…”
Its so fucking insane to think about that. It makes you appreciate the moment. Every single second matters. The problem is if you aren’t meeting new people or having new experiences it seems like ordinary everyday life. I am ashamed that it took me a trip across the world to realize that you have to live in the NOW. In the moment. Nothing is more important than what you can do NOW. This split second. If you ever take a glance at someone, and they look back at you.. and you share a moment together. DON’T HESITATE. TALK TO EACH OTHER. MAKE THE FIRST MOVE. God knows where that conversation make take you. You might end up finding your soulmate for all thats worth. Nothing is a coincidence. If someone comes across your path its for a reason. Take advantage of every opportunity to connect with people.
Hostels are the single greatest thing in the world. Its the best way to meet people and learn from eachother. Fuck.. if we just took two seconds to talk to one another… all the hate would go away. All the racism and bullshit would fade away. I shared a moment with a Russian fellow at Camp Nou. He used google translate to communicate with me and he told me it was his DREAM to come here. And I told him I came all the way out here for the same. Politics are bullshit. Don’t judge people. Don’t hate. Welcome people with open arms. They’ll reciprocate the gesture.
THINGS DON’T HAVE TO BE SO COMPLICATED. Life is simple. Follow your passion, travel to places you’ve dreamed of going to, and spend every single second living in the moment. You are guaranteed to be happy. Its not easy, you’re going to have to get outside your comfort zone. You’re going to have to take this on by yourself and no one else. But its the most rewarding thing you can do for yourself. I love life. I love all of you. Thank you for reading.
