"Man, what a fight!" he exclaimed, flopping backwards onto the ground. Every muscle ached, from his arms to his lungs. It burned in the best of ways, the kind of pain only a good fight could cause. And a good fight it had been, even if they were simple bandits from what was supposed to have been an easy job.

The stars were bright above them, and he felt like he was seeing them for the first time. The thrill of a hard won battle was starting to wear off, and he sank into the cool grass beneath him. His eyes drifted shut, exhaustion overtaking his limbs. He reached a hand out, searching across the grass until he found Lucy's and clasped it. Her hand was sweaty, but cool. He turned to look at her, the keys at her side glinting in the moonlight.

"That was fun! I needed that!" He flashed her a grin, but it was only a moment before the happy smile faded. "You know, I don't think I ever thanked you. For being such a good friend." The smile reappeared, and he turned back to the sky, closing his eyes. He wanted more moments like this, the two of them in the peace after a hard job.

"Awesome! Last one there buys lunch!" And with that he's off, running a non existent race to the guild hall. It wasn't like Natsu couldn't afford lunch himself, one of his more draconic tendencies was to hoard shiny things like money, of which he had an ample amount of. But why would he buy anything when he could make ice princess pay for it instead? That sounded like a much better idea, if you asked him.

Once inside the guild hall, a stern look from Mirajane halted his sprint, and he gave her a sheepish grin. He walked over to the job board to peruse the latest listings, wanting something that would be a challenge, but not too much so."What do you think, Gray?" he asked, tearing two sheets off the board and whipping around to hold them out to his friend. "Big scary monsters destroying a town? A fetch quest for some weird orb...thing...or something else?" He had already turned back to the board to check the rest of the jobs at that, two in hand already forgotten.

An eyebrow would be arched slightly upwards as hands would be pushed into his pockets, raven locks shifting to the side with a tilt of his head as his darks orbs moved to meet the fire mage’s gaze before he would give a small nod in response.

“Sure, sounds like a plan to me. A job would be a nice distraction- not to mention earning some extra money would be nice.” Gray spoke unable to help his own smile from widening slightly

Natsu broke out in a grin at the sound of Gray's laughter, even if it was just a chuckle. Getting Gray to laugh wasn't the easiest of tasks, especially for him. He seemed much better suited to+ irritating the ice mage than he was at amusing him.

"Well, let's go do distracting things! We can spare, grab some food, or -oh!" His grin grows into a full blown, fang bearing smile at whatever it was he had just thought of. "Maybe there's even a new job up!"

Hello everyone! It’s been a long time, hasn’t it? Life hit me pretty hard a few years back, and while I tried to keep up writing through it all, it proved to be too much and I had to step away. But I’m back now, in a much better place in life where things are just looking better and better for me. 

My love for this muse and the fun I had writing them with everyone has brought me back here, and I look forward to finding new writing partners, as well as rekindling with any old ones that would be willing to take me back!

I will be going around tossing some ask memes into peoples inboxes, as well as reblogging some of my own if anyone wishes to start up an interaction with my boy!

Oh man, the possibilities we can do with these two. I can see their relationship going in any direction. Natsu has a hard time forgiving people who have hurt his friends, so the hateship is the easiest to see happening, but he’s also super easy to get along with. He’s one of those few muses who, with proper interaction, you can ship with almost anyone, too. A romantic relationship with them would be really interesting, as well. They have their past at the magic games to talk about and get through, and their personalities would be really fun to see how they mesh!

Gray would roll his eyes. “Mine are getting worse, yet you call me snowflake??” he scoffed, rolling his eyes at his long time friend. The fact that they were going on a job together without actual bickering would surprise anyone who saw them.

“I guess if I’m a snowflake, you’re a fireball then huh?” he grinned, tucking his hands into his jacket pockets as they walked.

“Nah, I got everything I need, I have money on me if I do wind up needing something before we get back though,” he said. Getting on the road fast was smarter. 

                   “If you think we need to grab stuff we can,”

He’d look into the distance, he didn’t have the senses of a dragon slayer, but he trusted Natsu’s judgment when it came to some things, such as if he thought they would need anything before they left town.

“Do you think we’re good, firecracker?”

Natsu shrugged his shoulders, but didn’t offer any response. He personally really liked snowflake, not that Gray needed to know that, or why. It was nice to finally be getting along finally, no need to ruin that now. 

He smiles at the name, a small laugh slipping from his lips as he shakes his head. “Firecracker, huh? Not bad. And no,” he adds, jostling the small pack on his back in lieu of explanation. If they did end up needing something, it was no secret that Natsu had plenty of money to afford it. One of his more . . . draconic tendencies was hoarding things like money.

“The storm is still a few hours away, so if we leave now we might reach the next town before it hits.” If not, there were plenty of caves and places to set up camp that would keep them relatively dry. “Now c’mon Frostbite, we’re losing daylight!”

You can't eat your own fire, what happens when you do?

“I can eat my own fire, but it doesn’t do anything.”

mun note - natsu can actually eat his own fire, but since he eats fire to restore energy, it just doesn’t do anything for him, like how swallowing your own spit won’t quench your thirst.

"Go long!" He tossed a football in his direction.

Natsu charged after the tossed ball, jumping up just in time to catch it in his hands. Satisfied with his feat, he turned around and tossed it back towards Sting.

Gray and Natsu had this dynamic, they were friends, who were also rivals. They loved to test one another so they were constantly bickering, but in combat you would have trouble finding anyone who essentially flawlessly had one another’s backs like they did.

They were an unlikely duo, but together they did some pretty insane things. They just happened to like calling one another names, chasing one another and knocking one another around, that’s all.

That’s what real friendship was right? Knocking one another down, just to help them back up again?

“You call mine lame?! Get back here ashes!” Gray called out, laughing as he started to lightly jog after Natsu making it look like he was mad when he really wasn’t.  It was fun to mess with the pyro. Who knew that over the years of taunting and fighting the two would become such good friends?

“Hey lava lungs,” he’d grin as he caught up with the shorter male.

The constant banter and name calling may sound harsh, but only to someone who didn’t know the two. Their relationship was a strange one, definitely, but one that worked for them. They didn’t have to try, didn’t have to force themselves to be someone they weren’t.

It was nice.

"Man, these names just keeping getting worse and worse. You aren’t goin’ soft on me, are ya snowflake?” Natsu taunts, shooting the other mage a grin as they make it to the door.

It’s nice outside for once, the sun bright despite the cold weather. Clouds were starting to creep in, though, and Natsu could smell rain in the distance. “Looks like it’s going to storm soon. Do ya need to grab anything before we go?” They could also wait out the storm, but judging by its smell it was still a good distance off, and Natsu wanted to be on the road before it hit.
