The figure skating competition at the World University Winter Games ended today.

Japan went 1-2 with Rion Sumiyoshi winning the gold at Mone Chiba winning the silver. Sofia Samodelkina of Kazakhstan won the bronze.

Thanks @odettewagner for telling me that the Icebreaker novel name drops the quad lutz on page two.

Not a quad twist or quad throw salchow (rare and difficult but possible), but a straight up quad lutz in a pairs routine.

And judging by the text, they're apparently doing the quad lutz side-by-side so pardon my French, but what? Like damn if this man can do a flawless quad lutz then quit pairs and do singles, seriously.

I know that ppl reading this book are probably reading it for the spice and romance, but can you forgive an FS girlie for picking up this book thinking it'd be about FS?

Thoughts on the free dances:

Pirihara: I liked it, but not as much as Chicago (at first viewing). They didn't seem to go full out until the very end, a bit careful. It will probably grow on me as the season progresses.

Turkkila/Versluis: Super promising! Clearly needs a lot of work still, some parts were a bit awkward and slow to get into the lifts etc. but I liked what was there. I especially loved how much it felt like a tango. Highlights included the new lift, the step sequence in hold with the swings right on music, and the final character sequence. (Also Matthias, please fix your twizzles, it's not good for my heart.)
