“Hospital Playlist's Gyeoul styling's secret admirer, 11-year stylist Manager Kim Mihyun Interview: Part 1″

Q: Top stylist who is in charge of top celebrities, Kim Mihyun. (I am) curious of your current situation.

A: I am having busy days since there are more and more celebrities that I am charge of styling. I (do it) for scheduled events of actresses Kim Taehee and Chu Jahyun and I go with Kim Jiwon and Shin Hyunbeen on drama filming. In the case of actress Shin Hyunbeen, I am currently preparing for her newly confirmed casting in the drama <Someone Like You>

Q: It is said that actress Shin Hyunbeen's transformation in the drama <Hospital Playlist>; as 'Jang Gyeoul' is successful that they believe they were two different people. This seems to suggest that the role of styling is important. For the drama styling, it is necessary that (you) understand the character as well.

A: There is an image that the stylist draws in her head for a character in a work, and there is a direction that each actor pursues when they act. It is necessary to keep up with this process. That's why I read the script carefully and talk a lot with the director and the actors to discuss the styling.

Q: What kind of discussion did you have to complete <Hospital Playlist>'s hidden heroine Jang Gyeoul?

A: When I first read the script and imagined the character 'Jang Gyeoul', I just thought that a good-natured character will fit a basic and casual styling. But as expected, the director and even actress Shin Hyunbeen had also the same thought of using only one denim shirt and concluded that the boxy feel of men's shirt is more suitable than that of (using) a women's large-sized shirt for Gyeoul. Gyeoul was styled in the drama with a large men's shirt through this process.

Q: Deep concern is still felt even with a plain looking shirt styling. What is the point in styling an actress for a drama?

A: Although it is important to justify the character, the point that should not also be missed is that she has to look beautiful because she is an 'actress'. Because a plain character should not be flashy, I still have to think of ways on how to make them look unique and pretty despite being unadorned. I talk a lot about this with the actors, and when necessary, I often look for elements in street fashion and collections that can be used.

Q: Is it "안은꾸" if it is unadorned but looks uniquely pretty?

A: It seems that you have read my previous interview (laughs). Yes. As if unadorned but is secretly adorned.

Q: I heard that it is better if the actor you do styling "dresses up well". Does Shin Hyunbeen "dress up well"?

A: She really knows how to dress up. She is from an arts school and she has a lot of interest in clothes so wears them in different ways. We personally often meet and we talk a lot and try to fit and match the styles. In the case of the drama currently being prepared <Someone Like You>, actress Go Hyunjung's role is (someone who is) gorgeous and bright while actress Shin Hyunbeen is rather simple and unique. The director said it would be nice if she has a distinctive force so I personally looked up for vintage clothes with Shin Hyunbeen after the meeting.

Q: How does her personal clothes look like?

A: The styles that you can see in Shin Hyunbeen's instagram are not basic. But if you open the wardrobe in her home, she has a vintage leather jacket bought overseas and clothes that cannot be easily bought in Korea. Hyunbeen likes the French chic style, but when she does the fitting, her own mood and fit naturally appears.
