The last page of chapter 144 titled ‘a’, has some curiosities:

First of all, the ’ah’ written in hiragana, which are linked to the title of the chapter,  form a number 60 in the japanese version.

If we add 60 to the chapter number, we will get as a result 204, which knowing that two extra chapters have been published until today, would make 206 in total.

                                       144+60 = 204           204+2 = 206

This could be related with the famous theory that :re will have 206 chapters and in turn with the final sentence “farewell to end, hello to the end”.

Furuta’s plan, which he described in ch 100 as if it were a movie, was finished in chapter 143, as Furuta affirmed and the final sentence indicated.

Referring the words “farewell to end” to this fact, and on the contrary “hello to end” pointing out to the true end of :re, which may or may not suppose the end of the series.

As a final note and more as a comment, in the lower right side of the image, there are a series of black marks which form a perpendicular surface to the buildings, and whose appearance sometimes resembles japanese kanjis.

Therefore, these are some curiosities present in the last page of chapter 144, which could be hinting the end of :re.

Translation notes for ch. 143

Hopefully this will answer most of the asks I’ve been getting about this chapter.

Kouryuugi is written in only hiragana and katakana. It itself is an obscure term meaning ‘catadromous’, a type of classification given to freshwater fish that migrate to saltwater to spawn. Depending on the kanji, kouryuu could mean exchange, confinement, prosperity, slipstream, or mizuchi (a Japanese aquatic dragon or serpent). Also of note is the ryuu in kouryuugi, which means ‘dragon’.

Hajime doesn’t say anything about ‘nuggets’, like the MS translation has written down (I have no clue where that came from).

Instead it says:

Hajime: Daruma-chan, ain’t this paradise?

Furuta: Hazuki-kun. It’s “Daruma-chan, please take care of/look after paradise. You need to be polite.

The “Daruma-chan” is referring to the daruma that we’ve seen often associated with :re, in regards to the colon in ‘:re’ having different colours, and Kaneki. You make a goal/wish for yourself and colour in one of the blank eyes, and then colour in the other eye after it’s been achieved.

Kaneki has once again been referred as a Daruma, this time by Hajime and Furuta. Hajime tells Kaneki that this situation is ‘paradise’, but what’s interesting is that Furuta corrects him and replaces it with a request for Daruma-chan (aka Kaneki) to look after ‘paradise’, especially since this isn’t what Hajime wanted to say. To me it seems like Furuta is wishing/asking Kaneki to look after a world where humans and ghouls can co-exist, an “ideal paradise”. Though Furuta’s idea of paradise may slightly differ from what I’m thinking of.

Some other things to note about the daruma:

Bodhidharma, the Buddhist monk that the daruma was modeled after, has a legend where he meditated for many years, which caused his arms and legs to fall out from atrophy.

Daruma dolls have a spherical base, and so symbolically mean they can fall and get up again to overcome adversity.

I finally got clearance to show my rough animation from Castlevania! I did a lot of animation for this show so I’m going to release these through several posts each week, starting with this one.

For the Alucard vs Trevor sequence there wasn’t enough time in the schedule for me to finish out the animation, so I completed a first pass and the drawings were sent over to Korea for the artists at MUA Film to to tie down.

I need a bit of $ and I really like to draw people in fancy outfits for no reason, so fancy comms! Doesn’t need to be in a fancy outfit if you’d rather see the character in their regular get-up. But I’ll gladly put em’ in something riddiculous.

Not a lot of rules, but there’s few things to note!

OCs, Fanarts are good AND it’s the first time I’m going to be accepting fan characters! May be the last, may be one of very few occassions, either way it’s incredibly rare for me.
