I think the way they came out was a massive deciding factor in that. Phil's was casual, so his response was the same. Dan's was big and dramatic and emotional - as was his response. There's no need to be mad. I think this is what Phil wanted - not to make a big splash of difference, but to help any followers going through a tough time with their sexuality.

the part that keeps playing over and over in my head from dan’s coming out video is “you were born this way, it’s right.”

because that’s the thing with being queer, right? you grow up thinking you’re wrong, you have people telling you you’re wrong, you start believing that there is something wrong with you. and after you come out (if you’re lucky) people might say that “there’s nothing wrong with you” which also brings up the fact that so many people think there is something wrong with being queer. people usually don’t tell you “it’s right”, they just say “it’s not wrong”.

but dan said it and i’m really glad he did. it’s right to be your true self. it’s right to live your truth. it’s not just “not wrong”, it’s RIGHT.
