Really random thought, but why do zks act like zuko's va liking zutara is a groundbreaking point? Because I've seen so many people bring it up and it's just straight up stupid to me.

Because they're obsessed with any kind of appeal to "authority" and are forever butt-hurt that canon doesn't give them that, so they take Dante liking the ship as a "win" because "Zuko himself likes it! And talks about it a lot! He's standing up against evil Bryke!" conveniently ignoring that:

1 - Dante is an actor, not a writer. Listening to his opinion is fine, but just like it's perfectly fine to disagree with Bryke or Ehasz's takes on the character, despite them creating/writing him, it's also perfectly fine to disagree with Dante despite him playing Zuko.

2 - Dante ALSO likes Maiko. Quite a lot. And said Mai is more his type. And has also said nice things about Kataang. And even indulged Grey Delisle's jokes about Zuko and Azula being "like the Lannisters" (aka in an incestuous relationship). And if I'm not mistaken he has also sometimes said nice things about Zuki and Zukka. Almost like... he's a normal person that doesn't think that people disliking zutara (or being multi-shippers) is some kind of personal attack on him despite it being his preferred ship.

3 - Being "Zuko" and talking about any aspect ATLA, fanon or canon, confirmed or unconfirmed, is literally his job. He makes money from continuing to work with Bryke and the team in things like Korra, going to cons to talk about working on Avatar related stuff, and has a fucking podcast about it. Dude even explicitly said he refuses to watch the Shyamalan movie so he'll have nothing negative to say about it and thus avoid potentially losing a job if Shyamalan goes "Fuck off, you talked shit about my movie, I'm not hiring you."

Again, he seems to genuinely like Zutara, but let's not act like there isn't also a "Talking about it makes him money because the fans like it, and doesn't seem to piss off the people who actually own the rights to everything Avatar" aspect to it. You don't last in the business as much as he did without knowing which takes you should or should not draw attention to/endorse in public.

Zutarians obsessing over it and thinking it's some kind of "rebellion" of Dante's would be like me acting like Grey is "fighting back against Bryke" for constantly joking about Zucest or sending me a birthday video in which she talks about Azula going to seduce Zuko, while neglecting to mention that she kepts getting invited to stuff so they CLEARLY don't mind it (and even joked about it themselves) AND that my best friend literally gave her money to send me a birthday message and explicitly mentioned "Zucest is her favorite ship by the way"

Actors like to have fun with different ideas for what their characters could do, including what relationships they could be part of. The overwhelming majority of them are not "picking a side" on fandom ship wars, no matter how many times they talk about some ships, because it's simply not that serious to them, it's just a way to have some silly fun while making money.
