Thanks @bewareofitalics .
I've been remembering my dreams lately,
and I just woke up from one where the next big Les Mis fandom meme was posting pictures of Marius with irrational numbers while he does canonically stupid shit, followed by his with a rational number doing what would have been a reasonable course of action.

For some reason, the most baffling part of this dream was, "People in the Les Mis fandom can do math???"

do we think Marius kept Courfeyrac’s cravat that was used to bandage his head so that he could just keep a little piece of Courf since he died? 😭 Like Marius kept his bloody coat cause of the ripped fabric and whatever so who’s to say he didn’t keep the cravat too? Idk I just need it for my soul cause I know it took him like his whole life to get over Courf’s death even if he likes to pretend he’s fine on the outside. 😖
.
#I do think this#but that's because whether romantic or platonic everything about Courfius grips me#thank you for bringing this to wider attention OP#les mis#courfius#courfeyrac#marius#les amis

tbh it's just rude that so many people in this fandom talk about Les Amis as Shippable Twinks etc etc when Theodule Gillenormand is RIGHT HERE Head Empty Waist Snatched Itinerary: Beauty Sleep Sword dragging suggestively
does it mean nothing to you. do you have no respect for an icon. Take a look in the mirror, acknowledge the inferiority of your moustaches, and apologize to him
#The Man The Twink The Legend#my health issues are finally clearing up so I'm hoping I'll be up to getting the bracket running soon#bc Theodule was SO obscurely shippable#and I need to see more of him#I still think Regularly of elenchus's fic with Theodule Grantaire and Bahorel#an unparalleled masterpiece Please Go Read It#les mis#theodule#théodule

Calling all Les mis fans!!!
Now that I've been in this fandom for a solid few months. I've come to notice that modern aus are REALLY popular. I've even gotten the impression that they're even more popular than canon era. Which is surprising so I'm putting out this poll to see if my hypothesis is accurate.
I suspect the reason why there's so much more modern au fics and content is because it's simply easier to write. Which is fair enough, nothing wrong with that. And you can make the fics more relatable with our current time period. It's still surprising considering the original story is about the early 19th century.
#OKAY SO#canon era tends to pay a bit more attention to ... canon#e.g. characterization symbolism and a very specific brand of humor#but I love a well-done modern AU where it's a love letter to canon#like I love when there's a modern AU ft an Enjolras who would hear that MLK Jr cheated on his wife and be like “??? and???????”#or finding parallels with JVJ's conditions and the modern era#like don't get me wrong I also love a good tropey ship and everything that entails#but in my mind that exists ... separate from Les Mis#les mis fandom poll#(I didn't vote tho)

Enjoltaire Games 2025
It's that time of year again! We're back for another year of love for these boys. Below is the details for this year's event, with a timeline post to follow shortly.
*
THEME:
This year the theme for the Enjoltaire Games will be STORMS. Please remember that you can interpret this theme in any way that suits you. Stormy weather, an emotional storm, storming a place (like a barricade…), basically any form of storms that you feel you can make work will fit this theme. Have fun with it!
TEAMS:
This year the teams will be IMPENDING and AFTERMATH. This just means that your work will need to focus on either the incoming storm or after the storm. Pretty simple. That, much like the overall theme, can be taken however you’d like. We try not to stifle anyone’s muse around here.
When you sign up for the fest you will be allowed to request which team you would prefer, but please keep in mind that the teams will need to be at least mostly even for voting purposes, so you may or may not be able to get your first choice of team. Your mod will do their best to be as accommodating as possible, though.
PROMPTS:
The prompts will be available once you have signed up for the fest. There will be a total of ten (10) each of text based, image based, and audio based prompts. Each prompt will be available to be claimed once by each team. For example, if team IMPENDING claims prompt Image 3, then one person from team AFTERMATH may still claim prompt Image 3, but no one else from team IMPENDING may have it.
These prompts are not meant to dictate your work, but simply be used as inspiration. A song could have the lyrics translate to plot, or simply have the tone color a work of art, or a scene in your story. An image could be a direct setting, or simply a painting on someone’s wall. As long as they actively inspire your work and are not an afterthought to your work.
VOTING:
Voting will be based on three criteria: How well the work fits the theme of the fest, how well the work fits the team, and how well the work incorporates the prompt. There will be no voting on talent, or how “good” a work is. That is not what this fest is about and is simply too subjective an idea anyway.
And please remember that these works are not in competition with each other. They are simply being judged for their own existence.
More details on voting will be available when we get close to posting time.
And as always, if you have any questions please feel free to check out the FAQ page, or poke your mod on tumblr or email at [email protected]
Your mod recommends email first as tumblr is not the most reliable system of communication and often things disappear. I wouldn’t want to miss anything.

ok, little rant about a use of a leitmotif in les mis that i think has slipped under most people's radars!
so you the know the police leitmotif? the "tell me quickly what's the story/who saw what and why and where/let him give a full description/let him answer to javert!" tune that appears whenever somebody gets arrested?
now turn your ear to javert's suicide, specifically the "i am reaching but i fall/and the stars are black and cold" part. it took me a while to notice, but this whole section of the song is just a snippet of the arrest leitmotif:
but he never completes it. the snippet repeats and repeats. try as he might, he finds himself unable to sing the same old song of Justice and Law and Righteousness and Order. he's like a jammed cassette player spitting out the same second of music over and over and over and over again, unable to follow his old ways, but unable to let them go. he's stuck, but he will keep throwing himself against the walls of the cage.
javert is desperately trying to run on his old tracks of thought, but, as vicky h puts it, he experiences "the derailment of a soul, the shattering of an integrity irresistibly propelled in a straight line and dashed against God".
: )
#HUH#it makes sense and ai really do love the amount of thought put into the stiy told by the music itself#in the les mis musical#I'm sure entire academic papers have been written on this but it still makes my brain go brrrrrrrr#les mis#javert#diva javert

Every time I make posts about Enjolras and Grantaire as a ship some people tag it as 'I don't go here, but-' which is fine but I have to make it clear I don't go here either my only les mis ships are Jean Valjean/Fauchelevent and Marius/having a therapist
but yk if you want to engage with the brick you end up having to engage the fact that Enjolras is a greak hero and Grantaire is his Patroclus. In the text. And that's kinda that. It's part of it asdfghjkl
#Alice definitely cooked with this one#no no like#their relationship really is difficult to transpose through a modern lens#imo Grantaire's view of Enjolras is closer to (but still not exactly) a lesbian and the man she is obsessed with#the difference being that Grantaire still doesn't see Enjolras as like ... a human so much as representing an ideal#(not an ideal man — we're talking like how a bunch of people viewed Sukarno or Guevera or Malcolm X)#(like representing a movement and holding themselves to a higher power) (Gandhi also makes that list)#(and before people start pulling out notes on Sukarno's sexual proclivities or Gandhi's “challenges” Enjolras canonically excused Rousseau)#(they judge the ideal not the man)#(opposite of the V for Vendetta movie opener — Grantaire worships Enjolras the Ideal not Enjolras the Man)#which I've ALSO been doing a lot of thinking about lately re: the role of the Amis in the movement#vs how they get idealized now#and like. Enjolras wouldn't be Bobby Seale. he probably wouldn't even be Freddie Hampton.#he'd be one of the people Abbie Hoffman thanked by pseudonym in Steal This Book MAYBE#but within this little microcosm splinter group of the movement he is Grantaire's little K-Pop Idol Ideal#and I agree that evem if you don't ship it in the modern sense it's difficult to discuss the Amis wothout acknowledging this dynamic#shipping is the playing with dolls that happens outside of theme and message analysis#valuable to the ecosystem but ultimately irrelevant to the conversation being had here#les mis#... I'm not tagging the ship#enjolras#grantaire#greak

A lead vocalist for a punk band (Angry Folks), Zin Linn, was a popular anarchist in Myanmar and was political in his art.
He had written a translation of 'Do You Hear the People Sing', which was then performed by Lighter here:
youtube
His translation of dyhtps is frequently used when referencing the song in Myanmar, and there are many covers done of it. After the singer's arrest, it was also used as a protest song for his release, with dyhtps being used to specifically speak of the unjust imprisonment of the people.
By the time of this video, Zin Linn had left anarchism and adopted social democracy, collaborating with social democrats from Youth for a New Society. He was also recruited by the Democratic Party of New Society (a party which was formed by students and youth in response to the military suppression of the 8888 Uprising and other pro-democracy movements).
You can hear one of his music here, titled, 'Sound of Lat Pa Daung':
youtube
This song is about local villagers protesting against the confiscation of their land for the construction of the Letpadaung Copper Mine. The song is about the fight of the people to retain their land, and for the fight against the Chinese corporation, Wanbao, and the Burmese Economic Corporation.
By the time of the coup in 2021, Linn was detained by the military regime while attempting to rob a nearby bank, stating that he was trying to raise money for the People's Defence Forces. He hasn't been freed.
Interested in Anarchism in Myanmar?
