I was DMing the first session of my campaign, which begins with our party of four Drow refugees trying to make enough money to leave the city they were evacuated to. They have decided to head out into the plains surrounding the city to try and sell whatever they can hunt, so I make them roll for perception.

Druid and Magus got low scores, but the fighter scored high enough.

DM: Okay (fighter), I need you to roll an intelligence check. Fighter: Um…Okay. 19. DM: Right, you notice that there aren’t any fences around, which- Entire party: *interrupt me by laughing* Fighter, desperately: I CANT SEE FENCES! DM: *sighs*

I later went on to clarify that they were intelligent enough to realise that the herd they spotted moments after were definitely wild and not owned by any local farmers, but it has now become a running joke that our fighter cannot see fences and gets upset by them.

Why are my players like this.
