...What can only be described as a small kitchen area, kinda. Like there's a small, older stove and pantry and minifridge and such, but like. It all feels very slapped together, like it's an afterthought if that makes sense.

Sakura poked her head back out a bit, before shuffling out from behind the wall, looking down and doing the Anime Fingers Thing but with her sleeves still covering her hands. "Um... ok......! I'm uh.... Yurei Sakura....." She avoids eye contact.

Not because she's nervous about like. The awkward situation she's been put in or anything.

But because she's nervous about The Shared Name Thing (tm)

"well..... i've been trying to get more friends like you told me to, right? and i noticed some of my classmates seem to like flowers, so i thought 'hey! my name is a flower, maybe they'd let me be friends with them!' but...." she slid down Shino's arm, pressing her cheek against it as she did so. "they already have a sakura..... so i can't be friends with them....."

She was silent for a few seconds, just.... Processing how ridiculous this literal non-issue was. ".......Are you actually serious."

Sakura nodded. "of course i'm serious!!! they wouldn't want to be friends with another sakura when they already have one.... why would they?"

Shino let out an annoyed huff, finally wresting her arm free and crossing them in front of her chest. "That makes literally no sense Yurei. Why the hell would your name matter in the slightest."

"because.....! there can't be two sakuras! that wouldn't make any sense!!"

Actually standing in front of the main building, it quickly becomes clear that this place is... much less run-down than you'd think a shrine with no visitors would be. It's pretty well maintained, even.

...Surely she isn't the only person who works here, then. Right...?

Anyways. Rei pauses as she gets to the offering box, laying her broom up against the building's wall as she fishes a small pouch out of her top - it's clear from the faint tinkling it makes as it moves around that it contains coins.

She tosses the bag into the offering box with fair wooden thud, before silently reciting a prayer. Once she's done, she moves further into the building.

They quit having anything to fear, after a while. Quit having anything that they couldn't explain by non-supernatural means. So it's less forgetting, and more just.... Not believing anymore. The Tayasu - who are here, yes - probably don't have anything to do with it; they're one of the last groups of humanity that are aware of the fact yokai exist, even." She shrugged.

"Most people don't even know that name anymore. Not as a clan of yokai-slayers, anyways. Just as an old, semi-prominent rich family.

"I don't know when you went to sleep or whatever, but yeah. That's just how it is now." The broom comes to an abrupt stop, and she lets it drop downwards a bit so that the bristles are making contact with the ground.

Chusuke had been walking home from school, when he’d suddenly been approached by a weird guy in a fancy kimono.

“Uh… Can I… Help you…?”

“Yes, I have been waiting. But as you can see, I have returned. I will give you the honor, so go and tell everyone already.”

“…Tell everyone… What are you talking about?”

“Are you a fool? Do you not recognize your god?!”

Oh…As the weird guy stares him down, Chusuke suddenly feels very small.

“Such inssssolence…” Jataro hisses, as he begins to approach the boy. Is he… Actually getting larger? “Perhaps it would be better to announce my awakening by making an example.”

Oh god. Oh fuck. Chusuke wants to run, but he can’t make his body move. What’s going on? Why did he have to go and ask a reasonable question?!

Rei can to an abrupt stop, turning to look at Jataro with just... utter disbelief on her face. Really. Really. This is what we were doing now, huh?

...She briskly strides over, bonking him on the head with her broom again.

"Jeez, what are you, a goddamn infant? Shut the hell up." She crosses her arms again, looking down at him with more than a hint of irritation in her scowl. "You do understand how ridiculous you're acting, right? You don't listen when I try and tell you how things are, and then you start throwing a tantrum when I don't respond to your clear provocations." She scowled, and began tapping her foot impatiently.

"I hate repeating myself, so I'm only gonna say this one more time: either we can have a civil conversation where you actually listen to what I'm saying, or you can buzz off and quit wasting my time."

Meanwhile, in another universe…

As Jataro descended his mountain, it became more and more clear to him that the world has become something new while he slept.

He doesn’t like it.

He’d seen the structures from above, but they’re so much larger and more numerous up close… And there’s so much land without any single blade of grass…

The humans had the time to build all this… And nothing for him?

No… Perhaps they were simply waiting for him to announce himself, that he was awake and ready. And then he would be showered in their offerings. Maybe then he could think about forgiving them for not checking on him themselves.

Masumii Kuraku had never before experienced what it was actually like to live a normal life. So, as silly as it may be, it was at the very least understandable as to why she was so excited to begin her first day of attending school. Her face didn't reflect this, of course - it rarely ever changed from it's default neutral scowl - but she was all the same. And sure, it wasn't as if everything was going to be all sparkles and rainbows. She wasn't naive; she knew she would likely be a social outcast at the very least, but.

If the biggest of her worries was just that some catty teenagers were sniding her, then she could live with that.
