Death’s Fanged Beast @elriel-month

I love that we continue to get hints throughout the books that there’s more to Elain than meets the eye. From Feyre noting that she showed some teeth, to Rhys observing that Elain’s people pleasing doesn’t allow her true self to emerge, to being the one to step out of a shadow to stab Hybern through the throat. Elain has teeth, and claws, and I cannot wait to see her use them in the next ACOTAR book.

A massive thank you to @/honeyypears on IG for bringing my vision to life for this piece. I wanted Elain to step into her powers, to embrace the dark elements of herself, and to have Az supporting her, as if to say “that’s my girl.”

We’ve only gotten glimpses of the fanged beast that resides in Elain, and I cannot wait to explore her character in her book!

We know Azriel is still searching for where he truly belongs, and we believe he will find his ‘home’ with Elain—within her soft touch and warmth. For today’s prompt, Steph and I thought it would be wonderful to showcase the trope ‘home is where the heart is’ and this piece by Olivia perfectly captures that feeling. Thank you, Olivia, for bringing this vision to life, it is everything we could’ve dreamed of and more!

I had this idea of depicting Elain and Az dancing, as she told us during Acosf, and as we know Az can dance too:

“Yes,” Elain said. “She was trained in dance from a very young age. She loves it, and music. Not in the way I enjoy a waltz or gavotte, but in the way that performers make an art of it.”

When the prompts were announced, we couldn’t wait to begin and to work on something beautiful and special together, so here it is! We have Elain and Azriel sharing an intimate moment in an enchanted garden, with their true mating bond finally snapping into place. I couldn’t be more pleased and in love with how this piece turned out. Okay, but in the next book, I’m going to need a scene like this:

Elain turned, teeth bared, brown eyes near black in the semi-darkness of the private office. “I am not a pawn for you to move across the board as you please,” Her voice was the loudest it’d ever been. The clearest. “I am not a thing to be a traded, not some consolation prize to be collected. I am a grown woman. I've felt hunger and seen war, same as all of you. ” She laughed, the sound bitter as nightshade. “I killed the King of Hybern. I went into the Cauldron and it purred in my presence. I mastered it, charmed it, and I'll be damned if I don't master my own fate too. It's my life, my love, and it's him I choose."

The room fell silent as Elain flung a finger in Azriel's direction, her shoulders squared, and her face a portrait of unshakable conviction.

For this @elriel-month prompt, I wanted to showcase one of my, and most Elriels, favorite theories/hopes for the Elriel book: a secret wedding between Azriel and Elain. Seeing them choose one another over fate and the powers that be would be such an epic, incredible, and powerful love story.
