it all changes with a dare. felix steels his jaw as he listens to his feet smack lightly against the old wooden floors. it's actually somewhat melodic, once he listens. pat, pat, creek... pat, pat, pat, creeeek. the old brownstone is quiet and it's dark and felix knows that he's walked into the plot of a muggle horror movie, but he keeps moving forward anyway. after all, he's seen magic. he's seen ghosts. he's actually been known to hang out with some of the more charismatic ones at school, from time to time. so, what was he supposed to say when his muggle friends dared him to go into an apartment building that was said to be haunted over summer break? "no"? "ghosts are creepy"? what sort of wizard would he be? (not that his friends know about that little detail, but what matters is that he does, and he has his pride to consider.) so he keeps walking. pat pat, creek. out of his messenger bag, felix pulls a flashlight and sheds a tiny circle of light onto the floor, and then up onto the walls. using it almost makes him feel nostalgic, since he hasn't used one since before he learned he could use a wand, but... it's hard to dwell on that when he's worried some sort of... rabid, hungry muggle is going to jump from the shadows and stab him or... whatever happens to dared trespassers. there's no sign of anyone, though - rabid, muggle, or otherwise. no, all he sees on the walls is peeling paper and dusty photos; all he sees on the floor are stained planks and the occasional area rug as he roams. ...pat, pat, creek... pat, pat, pat, creeeek... felix jumps out of his skin when his flashlight lands on something that is distinctly not a dilapidated wall and, at first, he thinks it's one of those stuffed bears that rich people keep around. ...but then it growls, and it moves, and felix's flashlight shatters on the floor. pat, pat, patpatpatpatpatpatpatpatpatpat... creek. felix never finds out if his friends heard him scream.

RIVER LEUNG.  20.  FEROX.

Born and raised in Brooklyn to Muggle parents. Her mother is Dutch and her father is Chinese, and they were fairly poor, since her mom is a nurse and her father worked in construction - not the fancy construction work, like contractors and whatnot, but the nitty, gritty, actual building part of construction.

She was born premature and with somewhat undeveloped lungs, so she grew up with some pretty serious asthma. 

She might've punched a couple bullies in the nose, and by "a couple," I mean a lot. ...A couple times.

She never really fit in at Muggle school and felt like a bit of an outcast, so the whole "hey ur a witch" development is somehow unsurprising.

(No I'm kidding that's shocking as fuck WHAT THE HELL MAGIC IS REAL????)

But her parents are supportive and she goes to Salem's magic school, magic heals her asthma, she makes friends, EVERYTHING IS AWESOME.

but then her dad dies and she almost drops out of school to go live with her mom again, lol.

and she ends up at the Institute because, hey, at least she can continue her education and still be near her mama

She's majoring in curse-breaking because she wants to help people and give hope to people who feel their situations are hopeless.

She also is a sucker for fairytales, so.

FELIX HARDY. 33.  VERAX

Born in Canada, to a Muggle mother whose family migrated from Romania and a Muggle father who was French Canadian. 

He speaks French fluently.

His parents really weren't chill with the magic thing when Fee got his letter. It freaked them out. So, things were tense at home when Fee came home for breaks during his first two years at school, but when he got bit by a werewolf in third year, things went from tense to super shitty.

He stopped going home for the breaks and his school helped him out with the wolf thing.

I'm still working out some things with his history, but the long story made short is that he ended up a professor at the Institute, and now he teaches Ghoul Studies classes, mostly targeted at the Magical History major.

He's a cheeky pain in the ass, brutally honest, and protective.

I'm actually pretty sure he's super pansexual, and, like, I wouldn't call him feminine, but he's not... extremely masculine in the way he performs his gender... either? He's somewhere close to the middle of the scale. Idk gender is really conflated.

He's really chill as a professor, too. Like, he sits on his desk and shit. But he does give a lot of work and expects his students to do it and participate and stuff. So don't think you can slack off in his class, just because he's col.

yeah idk i'm bad at these and i'm really sleepy so

basically he's a werewolf punk ass lose who who tells ghost stories for a living and who really cares about his students.
