The Queen of Hills
Finest tourist destination Mussoorie – The Queen of Hills
Located at a distance of 35 kms from Dehradun, Mussoorie is a wonderful hill station in Uttarakhand situated at height of 2005 mts above the sea level. It is situated at the foothills of the Himalayas and is known as the Queen of the Hills.
Activities around Mussoorie?
The lush green hills, the varied flora and fauna and the majestic view of the Shivalik ranges and the Doon Valley attracts thousands of tourists both domestic and international to Mussoorie each year. Mussoorie is famous not only for its scenic beauty but it has also developed into an important  center of education and business. Mussoorie is also famous for the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration where officers are trained for the Indian Administrative Services and the Indian Police Services.
History of Mussoorie
Tempted by the exceptional beauty of the hills of Mussoorie, Lt. Frederick Young of East India Company had decided to built a hunting lodge on the Camel’s Back Road along with F.J. Shore, the Magistrate of Doon in 1823. Frederick also formulated the first Gurkha Regiment at Mussoorie and did potato farming, for the first time in the valley.
In 1832, Mussoorie became the ground of the Great Trigonometric Survey of India, which began at the southern tip of India. George Everest, then Surveyor-General of India, after which the Mount Everest has been named wanted to establish the new office of Survey of India at Mussoorie. But his wish was declined and it was set up in Dehradun.
During the chaos of 1959 Tibetan Rebellion, the Central Tibetan Administration of the 14th Dalai Lama was first established in Mussoorie, whose present location is in Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh. In 1960, the first Tibetan School was established in Mussoorie and the Happy Valley became the home of many Tibetans.
Mussoorie Weather – Mussoorie Climate Best Time to Visit
Mussoorie is a popular cool summer retreat in India. The climate is cool and pleasant all through the year here.
Summers (April to June) in Mussoorie: remain very favorable. Because of its high altitude, the hill resort escapes the extreme heat of summer season. The temperature rises to a maximum of 30 °C and the minimum tempreture is recorded at 10 °C during this season. Light swollen are advisable during this season.
Generally winters (late October to mid-February) in Mussoorie: are very cold and spine-chilling. The mercury level may drop down to a minimum of 1 °C during the nights. Days remain slightly foggy, with the sun being mild and placid. The temperature reaches to a maximum of 10 °C during the  daytime. Sometimes, occasional snowfall might lead to road-blocks in winters.
Monsoons in Mussoorie: The place experiences heavy downpour during the monsoon season (July to September). It makes the roads unsuitable for trekking and driving. The sky attains a mauvish tinge and mountains remain covered with sheets of mist. With the onset of the spring season in end-September, the place reaches its apogee of beauty.
Best Time to Visit

Lal Tibba: Lal Tibba is the highest peak’s topmost point and most famous place in Mussoorie. Popular among tourists and travellers for viewing long trails of major mountain peaks as well as romantic sunset and sunrise, Lal Tibba is located at Depot Hill In Landour.

Jwala Devi Temple: Famously known as ‘Jwala Ji Temple’, Jwala Devi Temple is center of faith and devotion for devotees of Goddess Durga. Located at the top of Binog hill in Mussoorie at an altitude of 2104 mtrs, Jwala Devi Temple is surrounded by Oak and Deodar trees.

Company Garden: A major picnic location in Mussoorie, Company Garden is a colourful garden located at 3 km from The Mall. Also known as “Municipal Garden” or “Company Bagh”, Has a variety of beautiful flowers and an amusement park also.

Benog Wildlife Sanctuary: Benog Wildlife Sanctuary a part of Rajaji National Park is located about 11 km from Library Point in the ‘Queen of Hills’ Mussoorie. It is surrounded by the benedictory pines, old cedar trees, and medicinal plants that grow in abundance in this area. The sanctuary has developed as a bird watching haven and is a home to a wide variety of birds such as White Capped Water Redstart and Red Billed Blue Magpie to name a few. One can also admire an eye-captivationg view of the snow-clad Chaukhamba and Bandarpunch peaks from here.
