Cozy sick things pt. 2

● Laying against your lover as he/she/they tugs a blanket over the both of you and props up a book for the both of you to read

● Kisses to a nose following a sneeze

● "Here. I made you some tea, honey. I thought you could use it."

● When you add minty Epsom salt to the floor of your shower to help your congestion

● Your favorite cough drop easing your otherwise inconsolable, miserable throat

● A soft pitter-patter of rain on the roof to help you rest your weary, aching head

● Your lover gently wrapping you in an extra fluffy blanket or buttoning you up in a warm sweater

● Your lover drawing you a nice bath with special bath salts for cold relief, gingerly rubbing your shoulders while you soak and occasional kissing your neck/cheek/the top of your head, and staying with you to make sure the hot bath doesn't give you a fever/make one worse

● Your lover concernedly and consolingly stroking your hair and running their hand along the curves of your body as you rest your head on their thigh and sniffle pitifully

Being able to hear someone getting sicker as the hours pass.

It was barely noticeable when they arrived, maybe a slight scratch to their throat every few sentences, but nothing anyone would catch onto. But as the time passes and conversations go on, their voice starts to weaken. It becomes gravelly, a few throat clears helping for the time being. Eventually it sounds like it hurts to talk, the low pitch occasionally cracking up an octave. By the end of the night, they’ve started coughing, their throat irritated with every breath forced through their vocal cords. If their voice is still audible, it holds a nasal quality that betrays any effort to hide their congestion.

A character falling asleep working at their desk and waking up in their bed... Tea, water, medicine, lozenges, and tissues are within reach on their nightstand, as well as a note from Caretaker:

"You're running a fever, don't try to get up. Call me if you need me to come home."

If I’m crashing out, soothe and comfort me like you’re trying to tame a mustang.

also i'm a big fan of when caretaker says stuff like "easy, easy. you're okay" like they're soothing a wounded horse

Caretaker (C) waking up in the morning to find night owl Sickie (S) at the table, still working. They have a terrible habit of overworking themselves, so of course (because this is my scenario and I get to write it), this has caught up to them and C can already see those dark circles on the bottom rim of S’s eyes.

S is far too absorbed into their work to notice C observing them from afar, their eyes watching like a hawk.

C sees every piece of evidence they need in no time: sniffling, suppressed coughs, nose rubs, stifled sneezes…. Yup, they’re sick.

C plays it casual, coming up from behind S, wrapping their arms around them, “Good morning, darling. Still awake?” They place a kiss to the top of their head.

“Good morning, sweetheart.” Oh, how their voice is just above a croak, “…Yeah.”

C feigns shock, a dramatic gasp, “Did you get any sleep at all last night??”

“I fell asleep at my desk a couple times… got drool on my work… had to start all over again.” They admit with a fatigued laugh.

C insists they go to bed, maybe they have to put their foot down, beg, command, whatever flavor of your choice.

Eventually, it works. C ushers S to bed, administers medicine, places a glass of water and tissues on the bedside table and tucks C in all cozy.

But then… C slides under the covers, too, much to S’s surprise.

“Didn’t you just get up?” S asks.

“Yeah, but that’s alright, I want to be right here, with you.”

“You don’t want to waste your whole day in bed with me, you’re well, why waste your time?”

“Darling, there’s really nowhere else I’d rather be.”

Sore throats

When it starts out as a subtle tickle at the back of their throat and their heart sinks because they just know

Throats too sore to swallow

Coughs paired with sore throats, each fit is more painful than the last

When the pain spreads back into their ears and swallowing or talking makes it all hurt so much they can't tell where the pain is coming from anymore

Likewise, that weird ache you get under your jaw that comes with it that reaches to the spots under your ears

Losing their voice

Paired with a fever. Why is their throat so hot?

May I introduce you to going in for a kiss to get them to subtly admit they’re sick?

They don’t want to get their caretaker sick, and caretaker knows this, so they always go in for a little test: a kiss on the lips.

If they pull away, it’s admittance.

Scenario + dialogue:

S= Sickie, C= Caretaker

S: “I-I’m not sick… it’s just…allergies.”

C: “Oh? Allergies, huh? So you wouldn’t mind giving your sweetheart a quick kiss, would you~?”

They know each other’s games very well.

C leans in, their nose just barely brushing up against S’s. S would always be down for a kiss, but they know damn well they have a cold brewing and absolutely would dread getting C sick, too. They hesitate, but after a few seconds of mental gymnastics, they lean forward and give a small peck on C’s cheek. They think they’re so smart, a satisfied smile following after.

C feigns a look of disappointment, faking a little pout with a “Hmph.”

“Now, now, you know that’s not what I meant…” their eyes flick between S’s, studying their expression. “Try again~”

S’s smirk drops to a nervous expression once more. They reluctantly lean in, just about to give into that kiss, but their morals triumph. They lean in more, but don’t deliver the kiss. Instead, last minute, they wrap their arms around C and rest their head on C’s shoulder. Their silent way of admitting defeat.

C returns the embrace, their expression softens. One hand sits on S’s back in support, the other on the top of their head, beginning to rake through their hair soothingly.

C: “aw… finally admitting you’re sick, my love?” Their voice is warm with affection.

S shifts their head so that their cheek is resting on C’s shoulder, nodding their head yes, a blush gracing their cheeks.

I’ve been craving SickFic, so have some prompts and feel free to tag me here at @wordmage because I would love to see your takes on the prompts below. Feel free to add more, or use it for RP/art, whatever. I plan to try and fill them all out, myself.

99.9% Immunity - (character) never gets sick, right? Wrong.

Elephant in the Room - (character) is sick, but for some reason - rank, personality, etc - no one is talking about it

Heroes Don’t Take Sick Days - there’s no time to rest when you have to save the world, so (character) has to push themselves even when miserable

Insult to Injury - as if being injured wasn’t enough, (character) is getting sick too

Ill Timed - it’s the worst possible time for (character) to be sick, but their body didn’t get the memo

Irreplaceable - (character) is the leader/boss and isn’t able to take personal time off, even when they’re under the weather

It’s Nothing - (character) insists they’re fine, right up until they collapse

Medic Down - every group seems to have a primary caretaker. How do they handle it when (character) is the one sick?

Milking It - if (character) has to be sick, they’re at least going to get as much pampering out of others as they can

Not a Word - (character) said they don’t get sick, and isn’t in the mood for anyone to remind them while they recover

No Rest for the Wicked - the big bad (character) has more to worry about than the good guys

Open Secret - everyone knows (character) is sick, but they’re trying so hard no one has said anything

Persuasive Partners - (character) is sick, and refusing to stay put; their partner(s) give them a good reason to stay in bed

Stepping Up - boss/leader (character) is clearly miserable, so the others go out of their way to take as much of their workload as possible

Suffer in Silence - for whatever reason, (character) doesn’t want anyone to know they’re sick, and does everything they can to hide it

Take One Down… - (character) gets sick, and spreads it to the rest of the group

Team Mom/Dad - (character) is the one to always take care of others on the team

The Wolf Cries True - (character) has been known to exaggerate or even pretend they’re sick, only this time they’re telling the truth

This is Your Fault - (character A) was clingy while they were sick, and now (character B) has it

Why Didn’t You Say? - (character) hasn’t been feeling well, making for some uncharacteristic behavior, and their partner(s)/team/friends are much more understanding once they realize why

Okay, my fellow whump enjoyers- I have a self obs scenario for you

I’m out camping with my friends and here I am, night one, having to turn in early due to the most wicked migraine! I used to get them all the time, but it’s been ages since the last one this bad. I was loopy, I was nauseous, shaking and exhausted. My vision even blurred. I barely had enough energy to put on my pajamas before blacking out in my sleeping bag.

I was hydrated, slept well the night before, but it may have been stress related or maybe, since I’ve been having a real struggle with food lately, I may not have eaten enough? Just woke up after sleeping it off. I’m much better now! ❤️
