Waffles and a walk around Stanley Park
On a chilly, blue sky day we had lunch at Nero Waffle Bar and took a walk around Stanley Park Seawall.
After a lazy morning we chose Nero Waffle Bar for lunch and selected two waffles, a savoury and a sweet:
Baked Brie, a Brussels waffle with greens, honey mustard dressing, pine nuts, brûléed brie cheese and crispy prosciutto.
Banella Brûlé: a waffle with vanilla ice cream, nutella, whip cream,…

Soaking in a silent spa in Whistler
Today we took an organised tour to Whistler, spending a few hours soaking in a silent Scandinavian spa.
Thanks to me, we’re almost late for our pick up at the Blue Horizon Hotel. I’d gotten the wrong pick up time stuck in my head, only thinking to double-check the email as we rode the lift down to the foyer at 8.22 am. Instead of leaving 13-minutes early, with plenty of time to get a coffee from…

Dinner with a view in North Vancouver Harbour
We took the ferry across to North Vancouver to Pier 7, for a delicious dinner and numerous cocktails.
Recommended by one of Michayla’s workmates in Seequent’s Vancouver office, Pier 7 is located on North Vancouver’s waterfront – just a 15-minute ferry ride and 5-minute walk from the CBD.
At Waterfront Station, it took us a few minutes to work out what ticket to buy, but once purchased, it was…

Suspended in a Bob Ross painting
Treading the frosted boardwalks of the Capilano Suspension Bridge Park is like wandering through a Bob Ross painting.
It’s true what they say about Canadians being so polite – the only rude people we’ve encountered so far are non-Canadians. And today was a perfect illustration of Canadian politeness.
To beat the rain and snow due this afternoon, we grabbed the first shuttle to Capilano…

Holy Crab, this is delicious!
Dinner tonight involved skinning shrimp and cracking lobster shell at a Vancouver favourite – The Holy Crab.
We decided to try out one of the restaurants recommended in a local tourist booklet. The Holy Crab is renown for its Dungeness Crab, King Crab Legs, Snow Crab Legs, and Lobster, available at seasonal prices. You can also order Shrimps, Crawfish, Clams, and Mussels by the pound.
Our shared…

Gadding about in Gastown
Tumblr media
This afternoon we lunched and perused stores in Gastown and snapped shots of a couple of Vancouver’s instagrammable landmarks.
We enjoyed a much-needed sleep-in this morning, heading to Gastown around 1 pm for lunch and a peruse around the neighbourhood. According to the brochure I picked up at the hotel, Gastown is the birthplace of Vancouver and was founded in 1867. It has a lovely mix of…

Boozy Sunday brunch and thrift store shopping
Tumblr media
We spent our first full day, a Sunday, enjoying a boozy brunch and fossicking through Vancouver’s thrift store.
A solid night’s sleep helped both of us shake off the bone-tiredness of a long haul flight and jet lag. We both rose around 8am, chatting about our ideas for today’s foray into the central city while we each got ready.
Our apartment is warm, spacious, and comfortable. Large wardrobes…

Oh, Canada!
There are few things more delicious than a long, hot shower and brushing your teeth after a long haul flight.
We landed in Vancouver on a snow-covered tarmac below grey, cloudy skies, grateful it wasn’t raining. A 20-minute taxi ride takes us to our apartment accommodation in central Vancouver. As the city speed by the car windows, Michayla says it reminds her of Philadelphia.
After checking in…

Winter-bound for a week
“Oh, that’s a long way to go for only a week!” This seems to be the consensus of all who hear that soon I’ll be winging my way to Vancouver for a week’s vacation with my 26-year-old daughter.
My usual response to their dismay is: “After flying 30 to 35 hours to the UK and back three times within 12 months, sitting on a plane for 14 hours to Vancouver is nothing!”
Pffft. Seriously, after those…
