This was a request from Naomi-Daos on deviantArt. A picture of the turtles as kids, staying up late listening to Donnie reading “Treasure Island”, and Splinter peeking in (not sure whether to interrupt or not). ^-^

Love that we are finally seeing April testing her powers and learning more about them. I just hope they don't "forget" about them during certain episodes.

He mentions it in a few recaps like The Lonely Mutation and the one with the ghost in season two I believe.

Personally I am so glad someone has addressed this. I have found myself cringing more than once at the way she has been presented.

April and Her Progression

So today I went to TVTropes site that I go to when bored. I was browsing tropes and ended up on the Faux Action Girl page, which describes a female character that is said to be a good fighter but we either never see it or when we do, she loses. And what really pissed me off was when I saw 2k12 April lsited as one. On the upside it said that she improve din Season 3, but it’s still stupid because April ISN’T A FAKE ACTION GIRL. She never has been! And using the ‘Casey was so good so fast’ excuse is dumb for reasons that I’m going to explain. But lets look at it seaosn by season.

Season One: Of course April wasn’t exactly going to be much of a fighter. While the kunoichi training DID come fairly early on, she wasn’t going to elarn in a day. In fact they took a very realistic approach by showing that while she’s learning and learning well, she;s ot ready for a full-blown fight. Watch ‘Karai’s Vendetta’ again and you will see why but also why she will eventually become a great kunoichi because she still held out and got away. And we still saw her try to be useful, even succeeding doing things on her own and heck, one time was BEFORE THE TRAINING. Point is, in Seaosn One April was a girl who had the potential, but she wasn’t even close to ready to get in on the action.

Season Two: She still had her moments of needing help, but compared to Season One she was more proactive and capable of herself. After ‘The Kraang Conspiracy’ where the issue was addressed, whether you liked the execution or not, we saw April get in on the battles more because she refused to be sidelined anymore. And normally when she DID get kidnapped, once freed she kicked the bad guy’s ass hard, most noticeably in Stockman’s mutation episode where she went from damsel-in-distress to the big hero once she got free. As for Casey, here’s the difference. Casey has played hockey, a game which gets so harsh that you get teeth knocked out, his whole life and has mechanical skills, plus he always aspired for the vigillante life. Hence why he was good at it so quick, he was already a brawler and was far more ready for it than April was. Plus we saw that he wasn’t so great at other aspects like roof-hopping and stealth where April was far better. So yeah to a degree he progressed faster, but in others April was better.

Season Three: She was captured… four times I think? And all four toimes the guys were captured RIGHT ALONGSIDE HER. ‘Within the Woods’ she got caught, but was the last one standing next to Leo and was the only one who fought back at first. ‘The Croaking’ Casey was as helpless as she was. ‘The Pig and the Rhino’ three of the guys were caught alongside her. ‘The Fourfold Trap’ all of them (minus Casey) got kidnapped and she ended up saving herself by unlocking the cuffs. And she was both very active int he missions and in all the fights, she kicked plenty of ass. She was barely helpess, she can and did protect herself. By this point, she was very much capable of fending for herself and she proved it.

Season Four: Okay so it’s only been three episodes, but in those three episodes April proved again that she can kick ass. Heck she’s probably kicked more than anyone else ever since she got that blaster. Heck int he first episode she SHOT LORD DREGG IN THE FACE after freeing herself by sure physical force. She’s now an absolute badass.

My point is April is NOT A FAUX ACTION GIRL. In the start she was learning, she wasn’t ready and they showed that. Now? We’re in Season 4 and they’re making it clear that April can kick ass and take names. She’s not a weak or fact kunoichi, She is very much on her way to becoming a full-fledged kunoichi and if others can’t accept that, that’s their problem. But April si badass and that’s all that matters.

”… Okay.“

 I really wish that TMNT had gone more into detail concerning April dealing with her father’s disappearance the first time around, and how her new brothers helped her deal with it.

I think that Casey will feel inadequate that he is the only one without mutant powers. We see in the intro April using her psychic abilities, so I think that and your theory in combination will make him want to be more.

TMNT season 4 prediction

From NYCC we saw Casey glowing all blue and April shouts at him about “being smart now” and we know that Wrym is some kind of wish-granting genie creature.

I’m hoping that means we see an Apriltello moment involving Donnie’s intellect (maybe Donnie makes/fixes something for April ((or saves them from zombies)) and she gushes over that big brain of his) and Casey, feeling jealous, wishes he was ‘super smart’.

I’m dying for some good Apriltello, even if it’s part of the love triangle- let’s ramp it up this season!

Rewatching 'Monkey Brains' and just realized that Donnie knew that Splinter would offer to train April since he had in on his chart. He knew his father would give her this great honor of being trained as a kunchoni, which is so sweet.
