thinking about this bit of commentary from G.eorge L.ucas because YEAH in order to understand P.alpatine, you really do first have to understand R.ichard N.ixon.

I never really got the significance of the N.ixon connection until was sitting in my history class this week listening to my professor yap about N.ixon and his presidency and I was like “oh. OH. WAIT I GET IT NOW OMG”

….hahaha I’m fine, just thinking about Yoda in that scene in Yoda: Dark Rendezvous calling full on red lightsaber out Darth Tyranus “little Dooku” to his face and how in TCW he tried to stop Anakin killing Dooku in his vision and then how he must have felt when the news came that Anakin HAD really killed him, the way grief changes when you’ve been grieving someone living for so long and they finally actually die in truth, and the Yoda comic, where years later he’s STILL thinking about Dooku and grieving him, and remembering him beautiful and tall and good and doomed, and not wanting to train Luke because his last Padawan was Dooku and how he feels he failed him… haha. Fine fine fine

SHE IS NONE THE WISER TO THE TRUTH OF HIS MACHINATIONS, and so, the concern that shines in Shi’al’s gaze is GENUINE. The girl’s brows are furrowed as she studies Palpatine, lips tugging down into a worried frown.

                “When people do desperate things, it’s because they feel they have no other options left.” Shi’al says softly, while she fidgets anxiously with her hands. “I see it all the time in the ballets and operas I perform. Desperation can drive you mad. Whoever the heck it was that targeted you did so amidst the feeling that it was the only course of action available.”

Shi’al hesitates, then hops down from her perch atop the edge of the chancellor’s desk. “Just … promise me that you’ll at least try to be careful, okay?” The question is laced with a pleading tone. “I mean, I know you can’t control what others do … but I don’t like the thought of you being in danger.” A long, heavy sigh, escapes her lips, and in that moment, Shi’al looks far older than a girl her age ever ought to look. But that HEAVINESS is gone as quickly as it comes, because seconds later, she visibly brightens as a new thought crosses her mind.

           “Oh, I almost forgot! On a happier note, I did some new outfit sketches for you! That way, you can keep looking fashionable even with a giant target on your back. Do you wanna see them?”
