Btw, if you have not had tragedy dropped on you before, grief does fuck you up in unexpected and physical ways. If you can’t sleep or sleep more than expected or have more or reduced appetite, or energy goes weird— your brain just had a bunch of emotions dropped on it and sometimes it reacts by hitting every button in your brain. It will pass. Just try to not get too frustrated with yourself.
It’s also fine if you feel normal. Grief literally hits everybody differently, and some people are made to be able to to keep the farm going the day after a death, and some of us turn into sleepless gargoyles and get really into trying to help, and some of us are just unspeakably sad. Grief is weird. Be kind to yourself.

Shortly before he died, my brother ordered a sitar to be delivered to him. He loved music and a sitar was his white whale, so he was super excited for it. The UPS guy dropped it when delivering it. I want to thank this UPS guy personally for doing that, because it made my brother record a video of him opening the instrument in case it was damaged so he could get a refund/replacement. The sitar was in perfect condition. And I now have a two and a half minute video of my brother with his sitar. I haven’t heard his voice since his death—he rarely took videos of himself or allowed others to film him. I thought I didn’t have any videos of him speaking at all. I don’t want to ever forget his voice, or the way it sounded when he played music. I’m so thankful for that guy who fucked up and dropped a giant package labeled “fragile”. He gave me a priceless gift.

Something I really love in dune part 2, is the juxtaposition of chani's reaction during the war council scene and the ending scene.
In the war council scene everyone is on their knees but when Paul declares himself the mahdi and says he'll lead them to paradise, they all jump to their feet and shout lisan al gaib, chani however is the only one to stay on her knees, kept there by her disbelief and devastation along with her refusal to exalt him like everyone else.
Then you have the end scene where paul becomes Emperor which both compliments and contrasts with the council scene, here everyone was standing and they all sink to their knees, but this time chani stays on her feet, she's all anger and defiance, paul promised to be her equal and she'll never willingly bow to him.

I feel like the therapist diagnosing my mom with “adjustment disorder” is a little premature when her only son died, oh, less than two months ago, and she was his primary caretaker for the five years preceding it. I don’t think she has adjustment disorder. I feel like she’s dealing with reasonable depression and grief. But hey what do I know?

fandom tumblr was another casualty of streaming services. we used to be on here posting about the episodes that were coming out weekly and posting gifs and writing insane shit about the tv shows we liked. now a new season of a show will drop and we’ll talk about it for a week. two weeks tops. and then that show will leave collectively conscious for 1+ year till the next season drops. there’s a reason succession sundays was a blast on here
we used to have real television

"people in real life: hey man how's it going" is a killer phrase. instantly neutralizes whatever insane discourse you find online. gonna start using that from now on

Stupidest way for grief to punch me in the chest is when I see a dumb meme and try to send it to nudge before I remember he’s dead and won’t ever see it.

I am honestly deeply curious about people's preferences from this list. Mostly as I just made one of these and brought it to a potluck and it is gone. Leave your distaste for Midwest cuisine at the door please. Yes, all of it will fluff you up for winter, that's like 63% of the point.
But for real? Which one do you just... almost hate yourself for loving the most?

as a kid i thought i would graduate from kid problems like cleaning my room to adult problems like jobs and taxes. but instead i have a job and taxes and still have to clean my room. cleaning my room is a lifetime problem. i will never stop having to put my markers away before bedtime. this is a rude way for aging to work.
