What is Silencetale?

Silencetale is a sans-based AU spawned from the muns’ attempt to do something new while RPing like the weird nerd they are. While there may be similar AUs out there, the mun would like to believe this is entirely original material. This all has yet to be truly written, of course, but the basic outline is under the cut. In short, Sans cannot speak, and this spawns a whole host of problems. Spoilers? for all runs of Undertale below (most notably Genocide). Silencetale carries a hefty trigger warning for symptoms of depression. Self-loathing, self-harm, self-neglect, and so on.

Sans Cannot Speak.

This has a number of connotations. A few missing strings of code render him completely incapable of speaking. This means he’s lacking many of his familiar jokes and puns. This means that in his very first game, he never made friends with Toriel. He never made his promise. This means when the player booted up the game for the first time, kiddo....

They were dead where they stood. Over. And Over. And Over. And Over. The game was irrevocably broken. The player gave up. When they realized, after a search, that this was not how it was supposed to be, they uninstalled and reinstalled the game. @sil-sans-ce was set loose on the Nexus (a timeline where all games intersect and can interact) and inhabits other timelines. Any game where the player has completed a Genocide run is considered to NOT have a sans anymore as he must be killed to complete the run. Sil takes that empty space should the player choose to restart and play again, WITHOUT modifying the files to erase their Genocide run. Triggering dialogue with him will initiate a standard Genocide Sans fight, regardless of whether or not they choose to do a Pacifist run after their Genocide. This discourages most players from continuing. More DETERMINED players can kill him, and other players choose to edit their game data. Should either of these occur, he’s either ported back to the Nexus or on to the next game. He’s absolutely depressed. Not sad, but rather pretty incapable of caring for himself. Since his bro changes from timeline to timeline and he has to start over and over and over, he’s lost a good portion of hope. It’s hard to believe anyone can really care for him since no one gets a chance to know him for....well, him. On a few occasions he has accidentally starved himself to death or killed himself in order to move on or out of sheer misery.

The AUs He Can Occupy Have Limits

Most AUs are going to be aesthetic based AUs such as Underfell and Underswap. Any AU that prefers not to be associated with fontcest will not be included. While Sil-sans-ce is not inclined to be intimate with anyone at all, the mun is a fan of the material and may include some hints in their art and writing for this AU. They would not want to upset anyone, and therefore this is the warning. Reblogs may tag material as fontcest and so on. There may be NSFW content associated with Silencetale. However, the mun would like to reiterate: it is difficult for Sil-sans-ce to consider intimate relationships at all, let alone indulge in sexual relations. Underlust IS an AU he can occupy, however, and this may cause a change or two.

AUs such as Underswap and Swapfell are a little more difficult, as sans is NOT the first character encountered. However this simply means that his confrontation comes later. Instead of indulging in puzzles, triggering dialogue with him immediately engages his battle.

AUs such as Echotale, involving G!Sans or any sans that is a combination of one or more characters are not possible for him to occupy. No Silent Seraphim. No Silent G!Sans. So on and so forth.

AUs such as Inktale or Errortale are their own sort of meta-AUs where sans is the only character and therefore he cannot be occupied, as they are intended to alter AUs and other timelines.

There Is A Base Form For Him

It’s a work in progress. The name for it is ‘True Silence’ and it carries all possible soul colors. Everything about him claims to be cracked and corrupted, wisping away and on the edge of destruction at any moment. It is difficult to see him in this form as it is not one he normally takes and it is incredibly unstable. The only location where this form can be seen regularly is in the Void.
