I finished my first real play-through of Baldur’s Gate 3 last night and the ending I got SHOOK me.

Dark Urge spoilers under the cut

I played as the Dark Urge and went through with becoming Bhaal’s Chosen, but I ultimately defied Baahl by killing the Netherbrain.

I killed Lae’zel because she tried to kill Orpheus, which like….was extreme but the only other option was to let her kill him and he’s needed to fix the cult like hold over his people. I feel like I made the right decision but it felt BAD.

ANYWAY.

The last conversation with the party essentially was like…….”leave the crown in the water, gale, you goon. we saved the world, let’s go party.” and when the thought of my fate came up, I chose to be strong in opposition of Bhaal and then my Durge pulls out the Blade of the First Blood and goes into a bloodlust after being mentally overtaken by Bhaal in what is essentially a hard reset.

Then it faded to black and we end up back at our first camp during the celebration. My Durge was notably absent until it panned to the area where the mirror is and she looks WRECKED. There were a few options to just make noise because she couldn’t speak out loud and her body movements were so upsettingly jerky and unnatural.

The way she looked at Astarion (who she romanced in the play-through) and mentally spoke of flaying him was A LOT because he genuinely loved her.

The final shot is of my Durge stumbling into the camp with the implication that she murders everyone 😭

I sat there with my jaw on the floor.

Now I need to do a play-through that isn’t Dark Urge based to see the…non-murderous endings because that really uh…..took the rug out from under me.

Also the crown went to Raphael because they won’t let me romance him or his incubus (aside from THE scene. Oh my gOD), so this is the next best thing.

I ascended Astarion to see what the fuss was about and then IMMEDIATELY reloaded my save after he gives my Durge the offer back at camp because that shit was VILE and I’ve never had such a visceral reaction to a character in a game in my life.

you little shit, I helped you kill cazador and you do THIS?????? Me?? a SPAWN????? YOUR BAAHL-BABE?????

anyway, I started blasting.

I went full evil Dark Urge this play through and his ascension sequence was entirely too much, even for that.

I cannot begin to tell you how much more enjoyable this play-through is. I’m planning on a redemption Durge, but the absolute chaos is so much fun.

I ended up restarting Baldur’s Gate 3 last night because I did NOT like my Tav and I had no idea what I was doing when I initially made her (as well as choice making in the game/things I missed in my first playthrough), but now that I have the mechanics down and I know what I want out of a Tav, I made a Durge warlock drow and nothing could’ve prepared me for what I did to that poor teifling bard at camp 😦

The thing that Baldur's Gate got right is that each companion is both extremely cool, tempered with an appropriate dose of cringe.

Gale is a powerful wizard. He uses the phrase 'pish posh' unironically.

Lae'zel is a badass. She asks you to fight her and then gets emotional because you're fighting even though that was her idea.

Karlach. Badass. But we've all seen her idle dance moves.

Wyll is this swashbuckling vigilante and he has a pose he does whenever he says his own superhero name.

Shadowheart. Dark backstory, still striving so hard for the light. Makes a joke about poisonous flowers that falls incredibly flat.

Astarion. Capable rogue and a dangerous vampire. He practises his one-liners ahead of time. Within earshot of the people he wants to use them on.

Edit: I didn't notice it at the time, but the way I drew them and put them together it looks like Cal and Lia are looking at Rolan <3 My heart.
