Valar Morghulis ;) I was just wondering, do you have any A:tLA fic recs, specifically Zutara ones??? Thanks!
Valar Dohaeris 😉
Sure! Here are some more of the gems this fandom produces
Multi-chap:
Together at the Horizon by @dragon-hearted-girl;AU After a century, the Avatar has still not been reincarnated, allowing the Fire Nation to continue its conquest of the world. A young Airbender befriends a Waterbender and Firebender, both of whom are living with a terrible curse. Formerly titled “Tale of the Grey Wolf and Golden Hawk”
i didn’t know i was lonely (’til i saw your face) by @raisindeatre;The “I hit you with my car and was the only one to visit you in hospital” AU I never thought I’d write. Or: how one car crash, one dancing bear, many, many crossword puzzles and a spot of accidental cohabitation lead to… well, if it isn’t love, it’s certainly something.
Love Story by lynny17;A meeting of nations years after the war leads to an unexpected romance as a love story unfolds. 100-word drabble series. Disclaimer: I do not own Avatar: The Last Airbender This is in response to the LJ katara zuko winter drabble challenge.
Jasmine and Souchong by @archergwen;It’s the Midsummer Festival, and Zuko’s lone night manning his uncle’s tea shop does not go according to plan. ‘He wants to stay like this forever. Just her and an empty tea shop, sugar and smoke on her breath.’
The Stalking Series by @emletish-fish;- Stalking Zuko: Katara has developed a new hobby. At the Western Air Temple she takes to stalking Zuko. Much silliness and shenanigans follow. In chapter 20: Katara and Zuko return home to the others. Katara hates the F word and she comes to a decision regarding Zuko. - Not Stalking Zuko: Katara keeps a journal of all the shenanigans that the Gaang run into. Chapter 49: there is much talk about the future - now that the war is over and everything is changing. Hakoda and Zuko talk. Katara decides that some things in life are worth the risk.- Not Stalking Firelord Zuko: The immediate postwar period from Katara’s ranty POV. shenanigans abound. Chap 24:Song arrives in Ba Sing Se. Shenaniagns ensue.
Oneshots:
Thicker Than Blood by @akaiikowrites;“You have to love all the facets of their soul, or your love is pointless.” A Story of the Girl Who Bends Blood and the Boy Who Loves Her. –Zutara; semi AU; giftfic for dancingqueensillystring-
Rounding the Edges by @sadladybug;It can take some grit and hard work to grind out the sharp edges, but the effort can produce something that shines. A Zutara oneshot in which Katara learns a few new things about Zuko, including the fact that he may be very difficult to live without. Featuring unexpected teamwork, tense training moments, and more than a few awkward conversations. Canon compliant(ish), Book Three beginning sometime between TSR and EIP.
Tremors by CuriosityRedux; She’s free to choose- if she goes back to the Poles, if she travels, if she stays in the Fire Nation just a little bit longer. She can choose to go back to the life she would have led if she’d never revived the Avatar, or she can choose to forge a new path. And she chooses him. Oneshot. Zutara.
Eye of the Storm by @cowlicklesschick;There is a moment of calm, where the wind dies down and the torrents ease and soften, where thoughts can be heard louder than words. It is a moment of relief, but also of fear and preparation, because there always another side to every storm, and the calm never lasts for long. Zutara B3 immediately following the Agni Kai.
Wooing Zuko by @cabbage-foam;Immediately postwar. During a trip to Ember Island to celebrate of the end of the war, Katara feels the need to affirm her sex appeal. Her target? Zuko.
Drabble Series:
Inside This Ancient Heart by @somuttersthesea;“She and Zuko, on the other hand—she feels like they’ve been old forever, even though they’re still young enough by most standards. The baby in her arms coos and she shifts her gently, cradling her head and smiling, only to see a gratifying, toothless smile beam from rounded cheeks in return.“A series of domestic drabbles written for Zutara Week 2016.
On Love and Lust by @theadamantdaughter;A collection of Zutara drabbles and one-shots. Some smut, some not. NSFW chapters will be labelled as such. Heed the warnings and enjoy.
A Little Bit of This, and a Little Bit of That by @kangaroo2010;No matter the time, no matter the place, no matter the circumstances, deep down, they always knew they were meant for each other. A series of short pieces, written for Zutara Month 2015.
you and I will not be shaken by @beifonc;In which Zuko is an awkward barista, Katara is obsessed with ‘vandalizing’ her customers’ food, and they bond over a love for instant noodles and microwavable food. In which Zuko rambles about space at ungodly hours, and Katara is desperate to shut him up.A series of Modern AU oneshots or my excuse to write drabble and not work on my WIPs.
31 Kisses by @darkelf19;A clumsy Zutara story told through 31 kisses. Written for Official Zutara Month 2016 @ Tumblr. Officially Zutara, but it could pass as any ship. Each chapter will be a perfect 100 word drabble. Enjoy!
Smut:
A Week to Know You Again by @elledix;After the first year of their engagement, Katara felt she and Zuko were already drifting apart. In the Fire Nation, their time always belonged to someone else. Now, in the South Pole for Suki and Sokka’s wedding, they hoped to find each other again.
The Business Trip by @thispieceofwork;Zuko’s been gone for two long months and Katara has needs.Takes places between Ch 10 of Confused and the Epilogue. Some PWP fun.
Agni’s Fever by @sohhng;She decides that she loves him for both the fire lilies and the brimstone on his breath. Oneshot. Zutara. ‘Zuko’s hands snag around her wrists. His body is a long line of tension, and now that he’s reared up on his knees to match her stance, she notices that his chest is as bare as it is soaked. “You can’t even begin to understand what’s happening to me.”“I’m trying to understand,” Katara grits. “Isn’t that what you wanted from me from the very beginning?”’
A Challenge Met by @sharkflip;Katara and Zuko meet and reconcile during Day of Black Sun, with the outcome expected in a story written for Zutarotica. AU for the Eclipse.
Love Amongst the Embers by @mmmisora;After the Ember Island Players’ performance, and with the help of a little rice wine, Zuko and Katara decide to rewrite an alternate ending to their story. Oneshot, Zuko/Katara. Rated M.
Hope this was useful!  I’ve got another fic rec list here, if you want to check that out :)
Happy Shipping!

the dream we dream together here (Zutara Week 2017: Soulmates)
*shows up late with Starbucks* Anyway, this is my very late submission for ZK Week 2017, under the Day 6 ‘Soulmates’ prompt (namely: the idea that you see your soulmate as a ghost after s/he dies, which is… admittedly just a very flimsy excuse for me to write my two favourite things: snow and angst, but oh well)
A hundred years from now, dear heart, We shall not mind the pain; The throbbing crimson tide of life Will not have left a stain. The song we sing together, dear, The dream we dream together here, Will mean no more than means a tear Amid a summer rain.
- John Bennett, In a Rose Garden
A List of Things You Learn Growing Up in the South Pole
1. Things disappear.
Amongst the glaciers, transience is a concept everyone learns from childhood. Nothing ever stays. Snowflakes melt the moment you tip your face up to them, there and gone in a blink as they catch on your eyelashes. You wake up one morning to find half the village’s meat supplies gone, dragged by wolves into the tundra sometime in the night. Every year when the worst of the blizzards hit, there are always people who go missing, caught in the storm and unable to find their way home, their cries indistinguishable from the screaming of the winds outside the heavy folds of the tents.
Things disappear. Mothers are alive one moment, and gone the next. Fathers kiss you goodbye and vanish over the waves, bringing all the men of the village with him as they sail into war.
You dumb-dumb, Sokka says to her once when she is six years old, when he jumps triumphantly out at her from where she is hiding, giggling, behind the alcove where the Southern Water Tribe stores their firewood. That’s gotta be the easiest game of Hide-and-Seek anyone’s ever played. You gotta learn to hide your footprints, Katara. I followed them all the way here.
She sticks her tongue out at him. I hate snow! If we didn’t live in the South Pole, you wouldn’t have been able to find me.
Maybe, Sokka says. But I like it. I like seeing where people go, or where they come from. I like that people know where I am. He jumps away from her, sending a spray of snow in the air, his boots leaving a perfect imprint in the white. It’s like a stamp, see? I am here!
Yeah, I guess snow isn’t so bad, Katara says. If we didn’t live here, I couldn’t do this.
Sokka turns just in time for the snowball to hit him in the face.
(2. How to run from your brother.)
Later, they walk home, Sokka keeping a firm grip on his sister’s hand as dusk begins to fall, as the Southern Water Tribe begin to light their lanterns. Katara looks over her shoulder behind them to see the trail of their footprints already vanishing under the falling snow.
I am here, Sokka had declared, a wild and defiant clarion call. I am here! But Katara looks at her footprints which are already beginning to fill in, and thinks instead, I am disappearing.
3. Things reappear.
But the sea never takes without giving back. Amongst the glaciers, return is also a concept everyone learns from childhood. Driftwood you hurl into the ocean one summer washes up on the black shores the next. Star-flowers survive the ice and the hail to push their weary heads out into the weak sunlight every spring.
The Avatar, a hundred years later, turns up in an iceberg.
And three months after his funeral, Katara wakes up one night to see Zuko sitting on her bed.

the right to remain silent
Okay so I recently hit a follower and a fic milestone, and my immediate reaction was just to go, “oh, nice!” and eat some ice-cream - but then my sister, who is my conscience in human form, said, “Why on earth are you congratulating yourself? You should be doing something nice for the people who made this possible!” so in the end I went “Alright alright alright have this terrible ficlet I wrote in like 20 minutes”. Thanks for everything, guys!
“my dad is a cop and i just called him and he was like “hey i have a 17 year old boy in the back of my cop car right now that i’m running him to the station” and i asked if he was cute and my dad said “Hey, my daughter wants to know if you’re cute” and the guy said “i want to say yes, sir” and my dad started laughing so hard” AU based on this post . (It was supposed to be Zutara, but honestly? It’s basically Hakoda deciding to adopt Zuko)
the right to remain silent
“Are you okay with this, or do you want me to change the station?” Hakoda says. Silence greets him, so he glances into the rear view mirror at the boy sitting behind him, who is looking back at him with anger and apprehension and uncertainty written over his face. It’s actually a pretty impressive range of emotions he’s displaying, given the fact that the kid really only has one eye.

I'm trying to get back into zutara for zutara month! Do you have any fic recommendations to get me started?
o jesus, am i qualified enough for this??? i’d ask my friend una for more of this as she knows way more about this fandom than i do. and i’m relatively new in the fic game myself, even though i’ve loved the show for most of my life. and i’ve not read as many as i’m sure some of the more active zutarians have.
i do have a lil list, though!
once around the sun - this fic fucking changed my life. like… chapter twenty seven is where it’s fucking at, really. i just can’t get over it. when you read the whole thing, you’ll know what i’m talking about. i screamed into my hand while on a public transport vehicle for like twenty minutes, probably. character death warning, tho.
our fortunes together - this fic is my fucking jam. and you’ve got geriatric aang, so that’s always fun. and geriatric aang is adorable. but you’re in this for zutara, let’s be real, so there’s plenty of that. my favourite part of this fic is how it treats zuko as a survivor of abuse. it’s so fucking validating and it made me cry. there’s a bit where aang apologises to zuko and it… it’s so sweet and simple but it made me weep. as a survivor myself, this fic really spoke to me.
gods & monsters - i’m going to do you the solid that this fic never gave me: MAJOR CHARACTER DEATH WARNING. SO MANY DEATHS. ALSO MINE - MY DEATH, BECAUSE IT MURDERED ME. but i can’t even be mad at it that much, it’s so fucking good. the characterisation and the plot is so solid and gorgeous, it’s phenomenal. the writing isn’t revolutionary or anything but it’s so evocative, it’s gorgeous. but god, it ruined me. i lost the will to live for like three days after i read this in one sitting. and i’ve watched the entirety of torchwood: children of earth. so fuck me, this fic was fucking depressing. most depressing zutara fic i’ve ever read, hands down. i’m mad at it for not having a major character death warning but like… it’s so good and really, logically speaking, it made sense in the narrative. STILL.
lilacs and lily pads + bones - LALP is the prequel to bones and my god, it’s so fucking gorgeous i want to weep. this fic is truly, masterfully done. really, anything by this author is pretty much guaranteed gold.
southern lights - this fic is beautifully done. /stefon voice: this fic’s got everything. it’s got fluff, it’s got angst, it’s got humour, it’s got young adults being hormonal young adults, it’s got phenomenal characterisation, it’s incredibly written. the worldbuilding that the author built up on from the OG atla universe is just… the bomb dot com dot org dot uk. it’s incomplete but it’s so worth keeping up with.
didn’t know my heart - gorgeous, gorgeous rewrite of atla starting mid-book 2. and you’ve got an awkward, lovestruck lil baby zuko and that’s always fun to read.
swing and a miss - this one’s got a really interesting format but it works. it’s also wonderfully written and the way the author plays with the timeline is also superb.
such selfish prayers - i can’t even begin to describe what an incredible fic this is. it’s very katara-centric, which i adore, and you see her journey into becoming this incredible socio-political powerhouse she could’ve been. the author took great care to add such depth and nuance to the world they were writing in and i loved that. it’s pretty lowkey in terms of zutara content but there’s enough to keep me happy. plus, the way the aangst was dealt with was masterfully done. the zutara in it is very cute and very lowkey.
that’s… all i’ve got (in my AO3 bookmarks anyway and i forget to bookmark a lot of fics that i like) and i can’t really think of any more rn. it’s like 5:27AM and i’m just about to go to bed. but i wanted to answer this before i went on my way. i don’t really check tumblr that often???
also, i write a bit of fic myself. i’m still here is canon compliant, directly after ‘the southern raiders’, and it’s canon compliant until it’s not. i update that pretty regularly because i’m obsessed so it should be finished soon. i like to think it’s p cute but hey, you decide.
i hope this helps you!!! listen, i’m sure there’s plenty of people out there who could make a way more comprehensive list than me, considering this fandom is like… 12 years old, probably. enjoy! xxx

"We write notes to each other on the desk we share at different times and I never knew who I was talking to until I saw you stay behind after class to write on it and holy shit yoU’RE HOT" for zutara pls???
hi so sorry for taking so long with this prompt (it’s super cute by the way, thank you for sending it!!)
—————
Zuko rolls his eyes at his notebook, though he continues to take down the notes. Some of the decisions the leaders of the past made were idiotic, but whatever. He’s got a final to study for, he can’t be bothered to mull over why dead men did what they did. He shifts his notebook to reach the edge of the page - and his eye is caught by the writing in the corner.
Graffiti on the desks has long been a popular tradition at this university, but Zuko has never bothered to pay attention to it. However, he’s intrigued by the blue ink etched into the desk. He moves his notebook aside to read it.
“May flowers grow in the saddest parts of you.”
He doesn’t know what compels him to grab his pen and press it into the wood under the phrase. Maybe it’s the gentleness of the words; it’s a terribly tender thing to wish a total stranger, but it speaks to that part of him, the part that’s been wounded and scarred.
“May the sun light the darkest parts of you.”
Zuko stares at the words, etched into the wood with red ink, fresh and glistening. He suddenly feels stupid - he doesn’t even know who wrote that, what is he thinking? Scowling, he caps his pen and flips his notebook shut, stuffing it into his bag when the professor dismisses the class. He leaves the room and he doesn’t look back.
—————————————-
When he returns to the desk two days later, he finds a fresh message in blue ink under the one he’d left in red.
“May the moon cradle you in your loneliest hours.”
His heart stumbles in his chest. Zuko glances around the room surreptitiously, but he doesn’t find anyone else looking his way. So the poet isn’t in this class.
Zuko looks back at the writing. He digs his phone out and takes a picture, feeling overcome with the need to preserve this conversation, to keep it on record somewhere, because this is the strangest and yet the most romantic and gentle conversation he’s ever had in his life.
The tip of his pen touches the wood, but he hesitates. He’s never been good with words - that he came up with that first line at all is a mini miracle. But he doesn’t want this to end just yet.
“May the stars provide you company on your restless nights.”
He stares at the words, and then he presses his hand to his face. What is he even doing?
Though he supposes Uncle would be proud of him for venturing out on something so romantic and exciting.
Zuko flops back in his chair. He’s been spending too much time with the old man.
Still, he peeks at the phrases again, wondering what he’ll get in response.
—————————————-
For Zuko, two weeks is a spectacular amount of time for something to be drawn out. He has little to no patience, and as fun as this game’s been, he can’t take the mystery anymore.
He needs to know before he explodes.
So he waits.
He waits through three periods, and just when he’s about to give up on discovering who this person is, he peeks through the door one more time.
His heart slams against his ribs.
There’s a girl sitting at his desk. She’s holding a distinctly blue pen in her hand, one she’s digging carefully into the surface of the desk - right below his last message.
She lifts a hand to bat away the thick curtain of hair that’s fallen over her shoulder, and Zuko’s heart flings itself forward once more.
She is beautiful.
He takes in the rich, warm brown tones of her skin - flawless, not a mark or spot in sight. Her nose is pert and slender, her mouth is full and tilted upwards at the corners as she writes. And when she lifts her head, he learns that her eyes are the brightest shade of blue he has ever seen.
For a moment, Zuko is breathless. And then his feet carry him forward, and he stops before the desk, standing awkwardly for several seconds.
“It’s you,” He finally blurts, and promptly turns a violent shade of red.
The girl lifts her head, eyes widening in shock, and then - and then an obvious happiness sweeps across her face.
She stands quickly and asks excitedly, “Are you my poet?”
He can only stare for a moment. No one has ever claimed him as theirs, especially in such a forward way.
Zuko blinks himself back to life and nods. “Yeah, I guess so,” He answers, rubbing the back of his neck shyly.
“I’ve been wondering when I would get to meet you!” The excitement in her voice is contagious, and it begins to spread through him like sunlight. “My name is Katara.”
Katara. What a wonderful name.
Clearing his throat, Zuko offers his hand. “Zuko. I’ve - I’ve been thinking about you too.” And before he can really chicken out, he adds, “Um, can I take you to lunch? My Uncle owns a great little tea shop.”
Katara grins. “I would love that!” She crouches down and grabs her bag, then moves to stand beside Zuko. “I was planning on going to the Jasmine Dragon today, I know it’s really popular, but everything there is just so great.”
Zuko ducks his head, grinning at his feet. “Yeah, that’s my Uncle’s shop. I think I can get you in.”
Katara gasps, and Zuko leads her to the door, holding it open with a bigger grin. He glances back at the desk as she walks past him, feeling absurdly grateful for that rickety old piece of wood.

drench yourself in words unspoken (Zutara Soulmate AU)
I don’t need luck, Zuko says to Aang as the blizzard howls around them, as they take shelter from the ice and the wind. I don’t want it. I’ve always had to struggle and fight and that’s made me strong. That’s made me who I am.
He turns and, like, he knows the kid is in some Avatar Spirit-World trance or whatever, but he can’t quite quash the spark of irritation he feels at the sight of Aang’s sleeping face. He wouldn’t be the first person to doze off during one of Zuko’s monologues (that honour goes to Uncle Iroh, and then… to basically every sailor on the boat Zuko has called home for the past three years) but it’s still affronting. Honestly.
Zuko crouches down to study the pale blue arrows on Aang’s skin, and wonders if there are other tattoos that mark him. If it’s even possible for the Avatar, the great bridge between the human and the Spirit World, to have a soulmate.
Not that Zuko really believes in soulmates anymore. That kind of comes with the territory. Once you believe you make your own path, once you decide you don’t need luck or fate, soulmates - which are a bit of both - are pretty much rendered pointless as well. And, well. Just look at what happened with Mai.
So. What happened with Mai was bad.

do u have any new fluff/smut (or any fics with a happy ending) zk fic recs?
hi!!! Im so sorry for replying late but in any case THANK YOU FOR ASKING BECAUSE BOI DO I EVER
FLUFFY ZUTARA FIC RECS!!!!!!!!!!!11
1.) The Stalking Zuko Series by emletish
thoughts: My absolute favorite fluffy fic in this fandom. It’s written in an unconventional albeit REAAAALLY astounding style (read: First POV Katara writing in a journal hooo boy). Features drunk!Zuko, ticklish!Zuko, and overall #1FuckingDorkinTheWorld!Zuko, but also angsty!Zuko and dumbshit!Zuko who just wants to set everything on fire bc he’s a dumbshit sometimes tbh. You will laugh and cry and laugh and laugh and cry over and over again and I just cannot recommend this fic enough please go read it now edhsujsa.
pt. 1: Stalking Zuko
pt. 2: Not Stalking Zuko
pt. 3: Not Stalking Fire Lord Zuko
Accompanying Oneshots if you’re up to it (you will be trust me):
the collected lists of zuko - a comprehensive list of things that annoy Katara and why Katara is the most impossible girl in the history of ever (which is why you love her Zuko. we all know. WE ALL. KNOW.), according to our favorite fire lord
the crooked thing - they’re trying to keep this thing they have a secret; a.k.a. in which things are perfectly imperfect.
snuggling dysfunctional cats - all of this shit from Toph’s POV brb im fucking screaming .
2.) i didn’t know i was lonely (’til I saw your face) by raisindeatre
thoughts: Listen. LISTEN. @raisindeatre / Atia is an absolute GODDESS. Her writing style is one of the best I’ve seen in this fandom, and it’s absolutely breathtaking. She just blows my mind on a regular tbh. This fic is genius and stunningly weaves canon into a modern AU, and one that actually works (and there’s very few of those imho). Slow burn but worth it. Every word of this is golden (also please read all of raisindeatre’s work, she’s amazing I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH).
3.) Bones by sadladybug
thoughts: Zuko and Katara on the night of their wedding. I absolutely love it when authors weave in Fire Nation/Water Tribe/any kind of avatar lore into their stories (it amazes me moreso when it comes sTRAIGHT FROM THE AUTHOR’S OWN RESEARCH AND IMAGINATION) and I’m overall just a sucker for this kinda shit. This fic also achieves the perfect balance of smut and fluff, and is written so beautifully it just makes me wanna cry go read it pls.
4.) Scars by Em Dixon
thoughts: “Katara is the only one with scar-touching privileges. Very quick read but beautiful all throughout.
5. What Little She Can Do by chromeknickers
thoughts:
this is from chromeknickers’ collection of drabbles and ficlets (they’re very short, but they’re so well-written and they make me want to cry tbh). Not all of the entries are fluffy, so I’ve listed the ones that are!
Dangerous Games
Smile Lines
Stay With Me
From the same author’s Through the Looking Glass Series:
Desired
Intimacy
Light
Special Mention:swing and a miss by stellatiate, for beanaroony
Currently in the middle of reading this AND I CANNOT STOP FLAILING. It has some angst in it but the in-between fluff is where it’s at, fam. The writing style is very unique and i’ve never read anythign quite like it. It’s genius. Thank you so much to @babyfairybaekhyun for reccing this iufdhsuijhn
i havent been active in the fandom very much so this has been such a nice refresher! Plus i’m an absolute sucker for fluff. Anyhow, I miss you guys lots, so please accept this as a sort of gift from the bottom of this MIA zutarian’s heart. Enjoy and feel free to add more!!!
VIVA LA ZUTARAAAAA.
