Horded ducks see water for the first time
> That was heart warming, thanks!
> “NOO I DON’T KNOW HOW TO SWIM!!!…. wait, this is built in? well now I feel silly..”
> Who the heck hoards ducks?
> That music was the best.
> Beautiful video, thanks for sharing this gorgeous moment for those ducks.
> Love the way they stop as a group right at the waters edge as if to say “NO THANKS!”
> “Oh wow! I’m like a boat! You guys! Hey! You have to try this! I’m like a boat!”
> I almost skipped watching this because the video isn’t embedded, but the promise of seeing something adorable was just too strong. I wasn’t let down.

Hi! I'm Brittany. we moved my little axie edgar into a 30 gallon tank from his 10 when he grew large. it was so terrible. we'd never touched him before because I heard it can be bad for their health. we had to pick up the 10 gallon tank and dump him in. He knows who I am, and whenever I come around to he knows I'm the hand who feeds him. If I ever try to touch him, even his tail, he darts across the tank. How can I make him comfortable with me without him hurting himself?
They will never be overly comfortable with it, but so long as your grip is gentle and you don't squeeze, it won't hurt them. It might mess with their slime coat a little, so just do it as quickly as possible.

Imagine if other pets were treated the same way as fish
“Ugh not again these animal SJWs telling me to take my dog on a walk…”
“Oh yes, I clean my cat’s litterbox once in six months!!! :))”
“I want a lizard that eats poop so I won’t have to clean my snake’s enclosure.”
“I’ve had hamsters as pets before and they all lived for a week, so I KNOW WHAT I’M DOING!!! >:( ”
“But the pet shop clerk told me that my boa will be fine with a leopard gecko!”
“Hello, I want to buy 5 corn snakes for this 1 gallon terrarium for my 4-year old son.”
“I have this 30cm x 30cm cage sitting at home, I’d like to buy 10 cockatiels to put in it.”
“I had a dog when I was a kid, it lived for about 5 months LOL”
“Well I got my cat for free, so I don’t care if it dies. I’ll just get another one.”

In case it hasn’t been painfully obvious lately, this blog is on the way out. I still log in sometimes to answer questions, but updates and photos are barely happening.
Life is super dooper hard right now, and my passion for these weird little creatures is waning. They used to bring me peace and comfort, but now they are just an added burden, and because I’m so busy and mentally off my game, they don’t get the attention they deserve.
So I’m seriously down sizing, that includes selling on my ultimate favourites, Grouch and Haku. Haku has always been an original Silly Axolotl, and my all-time most loved, but someone I know and trust likes him, so for his benefit, I’m letting him go. I will cry, I know it. Grouch too is one of my favourites. She isn’t old and haggard looking like my originals, and again, someone I know and trust would love her, so I’m making myself part with them, instead of keeping them for sentimental reasons. Ziggy is trucking along and the lumps aren’t increasing in size, and she shows no sign of illness. She’s too old and too ug, so I’m keeping her. As well as Hephaestion. His health has been off since the 2.5 month period of not eating and overcoming whatever that was. He barely eats, but his appetite has slowly come back, but he only eats one piece of food a day, no more. If all goes well, he’ll return to a tank soon, but he;s so skinny and I feel his quality of life can’t be great, so euthanasia is always at the back of my mind.
I’m also keeping Fitz and the unnamed male Leucy. He’s a sibling of the Twinigans and together they breed all 4 available colours in NZ, and they don’t create inbred white albinos.
Zeus will return to his co-owner, for better quality of life. I will keep Action Jackson, as the son of Zeus, and continue my goal of attempting to create some kind of breedable mosaic.
I have three white albinos and a het for WA leucy, keeping them currently but considering who to keep ultimately. I’ve got three combos for WA, but I want more than one to not always use the same bloodline.
Beloved Gus is going to Zeus’ co-owner as well, where I know she’ll be loved dearly. That only leaves one golden albino female who is cute as hell, and she’s in no rush to go anywhere... Sorry for the rambling, but for the future, there won;t be much updates, and I may be slow to respond. I will always be active at my email, and the facebook group. [email protected]
Silly Axolotls (NZ) Thanks for all the support over the years, but for now, I’m out.

I’m a new axie owner and sometimes after my axie has eaten he will float crooked in the water (not quite sideways, but maybe halfway there). He’s a juvenile, 3 ½ inches long, and I’m currently feeding him frozen bloodworms and freeze dried tubiflex worms. I usually hand feed him the tubiflex worms at the surface and I think he’s probably just gulping air, which is contributing to his awkward floating situation, but I wanted to make sure this isn’t a symptom of something more serious. He’ll do his sideways floating thing for about 10 minutes and then straighten out. Is he just being a knob? Hey, I can’t recall if I replied to this already, but it sounds completely normal :) worms especially encourage a lot of air intake, and doing it at the surface contributes even more, so he’s just got lots of air in his belly. As he grows, he’ll get lazier and spend less time up there and it should eventually stop happening.

Hi there, so I have a beautiful little axolotl named Júanito and I have had him for about 3-4 months know. He's white and has developed this brownish like discolouration around his mouth. Should I be worried? Also his tank gets so dirty but in worried putting sand down will harm him if he swallows. Should I stay bare or out something down? I know you can't do rocks.
Sand is fine once an axolotl is about 12-15cm large. It only poses a risk if they eat off the ground, if you hand feed, its significantly safer. Is the brown discolouration happening anywhere else? It’s not unusual for their mouths to be an odd colour, but it also may be something to worry about. Want to submit a pic either here or to my email: [email protected], then we can see :)

My axolotl has been falling over sideways lately and has trouble keeping his balance :( He just recovered from bloating a little while ago, so we started feeding him regularly again, but within a couple days he’s started having these problems. Do you have any idea what could be causing this or how to fix it?
Honestly, this axolotl will probably die. There is probably something wrong internally causing this. I can’t really offer you any advice sorry, because it seems like it’s one that’s dying or going through some kind of development issue which may result in it dying. Sorry I can’t be of much more help.

I really want to get an axolotl, but I'm worried about it adjusting to the water? how do I make sure the water is okay for him and how do I introduce him to the new water? thank you :)
Learn up on the aquarium cycle, and how it works, you do all this process before getting your axolotl so it’s ready to go, then you just acclimatise the axolotl by floating it in the bag of water in came in for about half an hour or so. Test your water parameters weekly once the cycle is complete, and test your tap water too, in case it is high in ammonia, nitrite, or nitrate or has a high pH etc

can you feed baby axolotl pellets?
Depends how baby we are talking, I try to get them onto teeny weeny baby axolotl pellets at 5cm, but most normal size store pellets will be far too large unless you soak them and cut them into bits. Any time before then is just too soon, they haven’t got that instinct yet.

I bought my very first Axolotl 2day! She's a little sweetie, I named her Gulliver Grace. I filled the fish tank up the other day, got the filter working & it was all 👍. Then decided 2 put some sand in the bottom 2day! Now the 💦 is all cloudy & I'm not sure if it'll filter. We emptied the tank, took a lot of the sand out, filled it back up. It's better but still quite cloudy! I didn't want him to stress so I simply placed him in the tank... He seems fine but what are your thoughts? Cheers! :)
It’s pretty normal for sand to make the water go cloudy. You usually need to rinse it a million times and even then it gets a bit cloudy. After some time and some water changes, it’ll clear up :) Congrats on your new purchase, enjoy!
