She was telling him all these things and maybe if she knew why, she would understand. But Buddy knew this would hurt her. He looked away from her, watching as the buttons on the elevator lit up, going down from floor to floor. He was quiet, not snapping at her or anything like that. "Mirage and I are trying for a baby," he told her as the doors to the elevator opened up. He stepped outside and continued to walk, betting that the people in the lobby meant that Tania wouldn't cause a scene until they got into the limo.

She stood in the elevator for a few seconds after Buddy had left. A baby? She couldn’t imagine Buddy having a child with that monster! It took her a few second, but a very red-faced Tania emerged and walked after him. The way she walked had changed — it was now more proper and professional. The flowers? The chocolates? Thursday nights with Mirage, “Oh fuck me.” She muttered. One of the accountants from floor six looked up and she gave him a look before following Buddy outside the door of Syndrome Enterprises. Buddy’s driver was waiting with the door open and Tania stood on the sidewalk, debating her choices. She knew she should hail a cab across town instead of being stuck back there with him.
