In The Heights Film Review-By: Andrew Lowe
Tumblr media
If you have never heard the name Lin-Manuel Miranda before, you will after you witness the summer sensation that is In the Heights.
In the Heights is the story about a shop owner and the block where he and the citizens in the community live. The movie follows Usnavi as he and his friends rap and sing about what it’s like to live in the Barrio that is Washington Heights, New York.  Along with Usnavi, his friends dream of bigger and better things than living in poverty, the characters portrayed in this film feel like real people with real problems. The realism of this movie is what makes it easily relatable, the characters’ issues feel real at times and will make people empathize and sympathize.
In the Heights stars Anthony Ramos, Corey Hawkins, Leslie Grace, and Daphne Rubin-Vega. Usnavi is portrayed by Anthony Ramos, whose lyricism and rhyming surpass that of Lin-Manuel Miranda who originated the role on Broadway. Ramos portrays Usnavi in a way that makes him feel real. Ramos brings the character to life in this summer event by playing Usnavi in the most vulnerable way. Corey Hawkins and Leslie Grace play the taxi coordinator Benny and Nina, daughter of the taxi company owner. He and Grace have great chemistry in this film and their psychical tension is easily relatable. Daphne Rubin-Vega plays Daniela, a salon owner and town gossip. Vega shows off her acting chops in this film, but she is no stranger to the Broadway community. She brings life to Daniela’s character with a powerful singing voice.
The movie portrays the realism of what it’s like to scrape by in order to achieve a goal or "suenito”. The story telling of this movie and show is thanks in part to Lin-Manuel Miranda. Before the success of Hamilton, Miranda wrote and starred in the production when it hit the Broadway stage in 2008. With Miranda’s words and the direction of Jon M. Chu, this movie is definitely the summer event of 2021.
In the Heights hits theaters and HBO Max June 11th.

Cruella Film Review-By: Andrew Lowe
Tumblr media
Disney’s latest Live-Action movie is Cruella, an origin story of sorts that is sure to stun audiences everywhere.
Cruella is the story of you guessed it, the famous Disney villain Cruella De Vil. Set against the backdrop of 1970′s London, where fashion was everything, we see the struggles that Cruella endured at a young age. It’s a tale of before she became the up and coming design genius and puppy coat wearing fiend that we’ve all come to hate and fear over the years. The story is imaginative and brilliant, but I'm just getting stahted dahlings. The seemingly humble beginnings and interesting connections to other characters that we have come to know and love, as well as some new faces is what makes this movie a joy to watch.
The movie brings along with Cruella played by Emma Stone, the characters Horace and Jasper played by Joel Fry and Paul Walter Hauser. Fry and Hauser bring the bumbling burglars to life, though these two bring a little more depth to their characters. Hauser plays Horace as a lovable oaf and Fry feels more of a connection to Cruella and does everything she asks. Emma stone brings the villainous Cruella to life with her psychotic and fashionable portrayal. It's very clear that this talented, young actress can indeed play bad. Stone’s mannerisms and voice are what make this character so deliciously devilish. This movie also  brings new faces to the screen with Emma Thompson as the wicked Barroness, a designer and genius as well as Cruella’s competition. Emma Thompson’s Baroness is such a powerful character that you hate to love her, but Thompson portrays her callous and cold demeanor so well you can't help it.
Another new face is that of Artie played by John McCrea, a very flamboyant and fashionable friend of Cruella’s. This character is decked out in fashionable decadence with his flamboyant flair, he’s also Disney’s first out and proud character in a Disney Live-Action Movie. Stone’s Cruella seems to love his sense of fashion and has no problem with his affiliation. Artie is a favorite of Cruella because he loves to make art and cause trouble. Together these two are inseparable and protect one another. McCrea brings this character to life with subtle flamboyancy and the representation  is a delight to see on screen.
The movie itself is visually stunning, but the costumes in this movie are to die for. The pieces in the movie are gorgeous and beautiful and must have taken hours upon hours to put together, which made the movie even more enjoyable. Cruella’s costumes really sold the idea that this woman was indeed a fashion icon at that time. Flowing gowns, extravagant and exaggerated trains, as well as flammable formal wear are only a few of the pieces that made this movie. The costumes were designed by Jenny Beavan. Do I see an Oscar in her future? It’s quite possible. In life they say the clothes don't make the man, but for a movie like Cruella that is further from the truth.
Cruella also brings in little Easter eggs from the original which was interesting. It seemed to bring in certain character connections, like that of Anita Darling and Roger, that just made more sense for the story that they were trying to tell. The story was written by Dana Fox and was directed by Craig Gillespie, the two combined made a great picture and a believable story for a new generation as well an older one.
Cruella hits theaters and Disney + May 28th, so what are you waiting for dahlings?

The Meg Film Review-By: Andrew Lowe
Tumblr media
What happens when a group of marine researchers come in contact with a giant prehistoric shark? Trouble with a capital T that’s what. The Meg is a movie about a giant predator thought to be extinct, it was thought to be the only predator in the ocean. For a PG-13 shark movie it wasn’t bad, wasn't that good either.
The Meg stars Jason Statham, Ruby Rose, Ranin Wilson, Bingbing Li, and Cliff Curtis. The acting by this cast was good and there were many comedic moments to relieve the tension of this shark thriller.  As in most movies some acting was better than others and this movie is no different. The fact that this movie was rated PG-13 was it’s utter downfall, if it had been rated R it could have been a better movie.
Jason Statham’s performance was good and his character was enjoyable, a wise cracking badass. While he did have many funny lines, he also had the most action sequences as well. Li played a researcher who knew a lot about not only sharks but the Meg and her performance in this role was ok. Ranin Wilson portrayed his character well, he had a few funny lines, but his character was somewhat of a weathly dumbass and he delivered the part well. Ruby Rose played a researcher who for the most part was just along for the ride. Her character did nothing to help the story along nor did it hinder the process either.
This movie had a few jump scares throughout but like any shark movie it was a little predictable at best. The script was good just not really that original. If you’ve seen movies like Jaws and Deep Blue Sea, you know what you’re in for. The best parts are when you don’t see the massive shark coming.
If you like shark movies you will like the Meg, because it’s not only a good movie for those people, but it’s also educational for those not familiar with sharks. Id say the movie in my experience was so so.
The choice to go in the water is up to you, enter at your own risk

Mission: Impossible-Fallout Film Review-By: Andrew Lowe
Tumblr media
When the world is in nuclear turmoil, you can trust that Ethan Hunt is on a mission to stop it. Ethan Hunt is on another mission that will take you on a thrilling ride of cinematic excellence.
This movie will have the audience on the edge of their seat until the very end. With action at every turn and many comedic moments woven into this summer action flick is a must see.  The movie stars Tom Cruise, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Rebecca Ferguson, and Henry Cavill. The entire cast was amazing bringing the story to life.
Tom Cruise has portrayed Ethan Hunt many times before and he’s played things close to the chest as the character. This version of Hunt is more determined and a little more vulnerable at times. Rhames and Pegg make a great pair and played off each other as well as Cruise in this new feature. Rebecca Ferguson does a great job as Ilsa, her sex appeal is alluring and she really kicks butt. Henry Cavill brings his Superman muscles to the brooding personality of Agent Walker, an agent who shoots first and asks questions later, because it’s the job. All in all Cavill was a good addition to this mission.
The movie has everything you can ask for from a mission Impossible movie, action, comedy, and romance. The three elements are woven in perfectly to create a beautiful translation of the pages of a script. The movie has some great location shots and takes you all over the world. I loved all the action shots that were present in the locations, shot for the movie.
“Your mission, should you choose to accept”: observe Mission: Impossible- Fallout and enjoy the wild ride for yourself.

Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again Film Review-By: Andrew Lowe
Tumblr media
Get ready to dance, jive, and have the time of your life when you go see Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again! This movie was very well done and I loved the way the music told the story.
Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again tells the story of a young Donna Sheridan and her adventures that lead her to the Greek Island of Kalokairi. The movie stars Lily James, Amanda Seyfried, Meryl Streep, Christine Baranski, Julie Walters, Pierce Brosnan, Stellan Skarsgard, Colin Firth, Andy Garcia, and Cher.
Lily James takes on the role of young Donna and through her, the audience learns much about her past. James’s portrayal was a job well done, she brought a new take on the character of Donna. Amanda Seyfried is now a strong confident version of Sophie from the past movie, the Sophie we all loved is still there, only stronger. Firth, Skarsgard, and Brosnan are back as the three fathers Sam, Bill, and Harry and even though they are a little older now they still bring what we loved about the characters to the screen. Jeremy Irvine, Josh Dylan, and Hugh Skinner bring the essence of their older counterparts while bringing a fresh take on the characters as young Sam, Bill, and Harry. Cher graces us with her presence as Ruby Sheridan, Donna’s elusive mother and Sophie’s grandmother, and is simply stunning.
The movie’s music is definitely something that will be in your heads when you see this movie. The music in this film tells the story so beautifully and they are fun to listen to. The music itself is like a script because the lyrics mesh with the story being told. All the actors in the movie had great singing chops, some better than others like James. Who knew she could sing.
I think a retelling of this story was needed because it gives the audience an in depth look into Donna’s life, whereas the first movie gave you a sneak peek at Her life and love, this movie will take you on a journey that is simply enjoyable. This movie has comedy, singing, and is a good time to be had by all.
So book your ticket for Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again and get ready to party.

Hotel Transylvania 3 Film Review-By: Andrew Lowe
Tumblr media
Drac, Mavis, Johnny and the gang of monsters are back in this new animated film about acceptance and Tolerance.  Who doesn’t love a summer Vacation right? Mavis decides to book a family vacation for Drac and the gang and finds adventure along the way. Family, love, and acceptance are just a few themes throughout this movie.
The movie stars Adam Sandler, Selena Gomez, Andy Samberg, and Kathryn Kahn. Adam Sandler, known for his great vocal talent, really pulls out all the stops once again as he brings Count Dracula back to life in the third installment of the Hotel Transylvania series. Gomez and Samberg make a cute pairing as Johnny and Mavis, they each had their moments individually and together as a team. Newcomer Kahn brings her acting chops to the role of Captain Erica, the cruise ship leader with a dark family secret.
This movie was funny and had an interesting storyline and blah blah blah. The creators of the series took the characters that as children were supposed to scare us and turned them into something enjoyable while still maintaining much of the mythos behind them. Dracula, Frankentein, and the Mummy are just a few of the monsters featured in this series and what the creators achieve is oddly satisfying as an adult that monsters meant to scare have become a treasured commodity in the film industry in a new way.
Kids will enjoy watching the movie especially if they have seen the first two. There are funny moments in this film but what really struck me was the universal message of not only being who you are but loving who you love. This movie is a good movie all around and should be seen before the summer ends. So check yourself into Hotel Transylvania as soon as you can.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom Film Review-By: Andrew Lowe
Tumblr media
Owen and Claire are back with the dinosaurs in this latest installment of the Jurassic series. When it comes to Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom you get a sense of nostalgia while watching. While the plot of this movie is very creative and new, there are callbacks to the original movies that many fans will enjoy seeing. There will be a lot of moments that fans will be like ah I see what you did there. This movie is over two hours in length and does not disappoint every step of the way.
This movie stars Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Justice Smith, Daniella Pineda, and James Cromwell. Pratt and Howard are a great pair, they really know how to work off of one another via dialogue or non verbal cues. James Cromwell is a nice addition to this movie as his character has an interesting tie to the past. Newcomers Smith and Pineda bring something fresh to the movies as comic relief.
Under the direction of J.A. Bayona, the movie is full of CGI and pyrotechnics. The action in this movie was well thought out and well placed. The way this movie moves through each scene was enjoyable to watch. There were plenty of tense and thrilling moments throughout the film, as well as some comedy, because without it the movie would be classified as horror.
I enjoyed watching this movie because of the new and genius plot with remanants of the past interwoven into a tapestry of excitement. This movie will be a must watch before the end of the summer. This movie is worth the money for a ticket at your local theater.  Ladies and Gentlemen “Welcome to Jurassic World”.

The Incredibles 2 Film Review-By:Andrew Lowe
Tumblr media
Even though it's been 14 years since the first Incredibles movie, good things come to those who wait. Whoever said this was completely right, this movie was great to watch. The Incredibles are back to fight crime in this new animated film from Disney Pixar. The movie was actually as good as I expected, which was not surprising at all that this movie is a hit. This movie is for all ages from child to adult. So maybe you should dash on over to your nearest theater and see this movie for yourself.
The script and story made sense and had a nice flow, never a dull moment. This movie was well worth the wait because it did not disappoint . The movie is full of action from beginning to end, with comedy sprinkled throughout. I felt that the story was easy to follow and entertaining.
The movie stars Craig T. Nelson, Holly Hunter, Samuel L. Jackson, Catherine Keener, and Bob Odenkirk. Many fans of the first movie will enjoy this movie because all the elements of the first movie were there, but there were many differences as well.
Craig T. Nelson and Holly Hunter return as Mr. Incredible and Elastigirl. These two actors work very well together, even though it's an animated movie you can sense the chemistry between their characters. Samuel L. Jackson is back as Frozone and with that comes his comedy. The three actors combined make this movie worth watching. The kids are great in this movie as well, you actually believe these people are family.
I loved this movie because of the cast, such an amazing job to the entire cast. Another element I loved was the script and story, so good and connects to the first one and easy to understand if you have not seen the first. This movie will one of the movies to watch this summer.

Ocean’s 8 Film Review-By: Andrew Lowe
Tumblr media
Ocean’s 8 is not a remake of the Ocean’s movies but more like a continuation, although this movie could easily stand on its own. I enjoyed the movie as a whole and laughed a few times. The all female cast was a good choice because it added a new element to the movie, sex appeal. These 8 women were simply gorgeous on screen.
After being released from jail, Debbie Ocean decides to pull off the biggest heist with the help of her friends. The movie Ocean’s 8 stars Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Rhianna, Sarah Paulson, Akwafina, Mindy Kaling, James Corden and Anne Hathaway. These choices of women were good choices because they each brought something different to the characters they portrayed. Sandra Bullock and Cate Blanchett are a great team, they played off one another very well. Anne Hathaway did a good job playing the snobby, high society deb, Daphne Kluger. Rhianna did a good job playing 9 ball a tech savvy hacker.
Oceans 8 is a good movie and the entire cast did such a good job with this movie. The script was well thought out and had some great moments.

Solo: A Star Wars Story Film Review-By: Andrew Lowe
Tumblr media
As a Star Wars fan I wanted to hate this movie. I was ready to tear it down bit by bit, but alas I can’t because I actually enjoyed watching this movie. The story for this movie was well thought out and connected to the universe in an interesting way.
Solo: A Star Wars Story, follows young Han as he pursues his dream of being a pilot. The movie stars Alden Ehrenreich, Emilia Clarke,Donald Glover, Woody Harrelson, and Paul Bettany. Ehrenreich’s portrayal of young Han Solo was interesting to say the least. While many may argue that no one can play Han Solo like Harrison Ford, Ehrenreich certainly comes close. He definitely brings the stubborn attitude and charm that is Han Solo. Donald Glover plays young Lando Calrissian, who plays off of Ehrenreich very well. The two of them together make a really good team.
The script for this movie was well thought out, every detail was managed in an interesting way, how these characters connect to the Star Wars universe we know and love seemed almost planned from the very beginning of course it is a Lucasfilm so there must have been some idea. The movie was full of nostalgia and comedy and lots of action sequences. There are also plenty of twists and turns to keep the audience guessing.
I really enjoyed watching it and you will too. The cast in the movie played their parts well and professionally. I really did want to hate this movie but couldn’t.

DeadPool 2 Film Review-By: Andrew Lowe
Tumblr media
In DeadPool 2, DeadPool must band together with Colossus, Negasonic, and his own troop to save a kid with mutant abilities from an unspeakable darkness lurking in the shadows.
Ryan Reynolds returns as Wade Wilson Aka DeadPool, the fourth wall breaking anti hero. Josh Brolin plays Cable, a man with an axe to grind who wields a massive set of armtillery. T.J Miller plays wades best friend Weasel and is equally as funny as he is quirky. Zazie Beetz plays a character named Domino, a woman who considers herself to be very lucky.  Zazie must have been lucky as well because she had a great performance in the role.
The script for this film was very well thought out and extremely funny, I really enjoyed the many blatant Easter Eggs throughout the script. There were also funny pop culture references as well that will have you rolling.
DeadPool 2 is rated R for obvious reasons: Language and Violence being the main factors. Parents be advised when taking kids to see this R rated Disney film. This film also has a ton of CGI action in it because what’s a superhero movie without action and CGI right?
DeadPool 2 is a must see film, it’s an action super hero movie with a whole truck load of comedy, pop culture references and a lot more. This film will have you laughing throughout. This is the movie to see if you don’t see anything else, watch DeadPool2. You’ll be glad you did.

Life Of The Party Film Review-By: Andrew Lowe
Tumblr media
Everyone get ready to party!
Life of the party is the new movie that Melissa Mcarthy has put out and it is funny. The entire cast helps make it funny. You can bet that your sides will be hurting from laughter.
What happens when a divorced mother decides to go back to college? A lot actually. The script was written by both Ben Falcone and Mcarthy and they don’t disappoint with the funny lines and actions of the characters in this film.
Melissa Mcarthy plays Deana Myles and she does such a wonderful job at delivering her lines at the right time to have the audience howling.  Maya Rudolph plays her best friend and is equally as funny. Molly Gordon plays Mcarthy’s daughter and plays off Mcarthy and her funny lines and antics. Debby Ryan is also in the movie as the mean girl and she's got the part down.
This movie had so much comedy, but it’s also very heartfelt as well. The relationship between mother and daughter is actually believable which says a lot about the casting and chemistry between characters. The entire cast seemed like they were actually having fun on set while having fun getting into all sorts of shenanigans with Mcarthy at the helm.
So everyone get ready to party when you go see this movie and you will not be disappointed. The cast was amazing and funny.  This movie has a lot to offer.

OverBoard Film Review-By: Andrew Lowe
Tumblr media
Man overboard!
The film Overboard is a remake of a movie that came out in 1987 that starred Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell. The remake stars Anna Faris and Eugenio Derbez. In this movie the roles are reversed, and it does not make this movie any better.
A very wealthy man gets amnesia when he falls off his boat, a former employee has a plan to get back at him. With the help of friends and family they try and con the man into thinking that the employee is actually married to him.
Anna Faris plays another character similar to all her others, the doe eyed blonde who has her crazy moments when she freaks out on someone. This is the type of role Faris has been type cast in for a while, so why would this movie be any different. It wasn’t. Eugenio Derbez did an ok job with working off of Faris and vice versa, but to be honest their chemistry was a little off and it showed on screen. They tried to give the movie some star power by casting Eva Longoria as Faris’s best friend, but she was the only believable character and she was only a supporting role.
The script was hard to follow, mainly because a majority and yes I said majority for a reason, about a little less than half of the script was in Spanish and you had to read subtitles. The story itself was interesting until it got predictable with the plot and some of the jokes as well.
So I think it’s safe to say that you can toss this movie OverBoard because unless you really like reading your movie or you possibly know Spanish, you don’t want to waste your money on this particular film.

Avengers:Infinity War Review-By: Andrew Lowe
Tumblr media
Marvel Fans assemble!
Ever since the end credit scene of the first Avengers movie, fans knew that something big was coming, Avengers: Infinity War hits Theaters April 27, 2018.  The epic battle the world has waited to see is finally upon us in this film.
The Puppet Master, Thanos has drawn back the metaphorical curtain and revealed himself to not only The Avengers, but the galaxy. Like all villains, Thanos has a purpose, and that purpose is destruction. The avengers must band together with their allies and go against him in order to save the world from their biggest threat.
James Brolin, as our main villain does a good job conveying his powerful presence on the silver screen.  His character has much more to him than we know or think we know. Robert Downey Jr. brings back his character of Iron Man and does a very good job in this movie. As well as Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Elizabeth Olsen rounding out the enormous cast in Infinity War.
Infinity War is the kind of story one could consider complex, not in the confusing sense. Although if you have not seen the previous installments some of the story may not make sense, but you can get a rundown of what’s going on if you watch Infinity War. What makes the story complex is the amount of story there is to tell and the many characters whose stories must be told. The writing of the script was done very well because each story flowed nicely into each other and connected to create a great work of art.
Infinity war is a movie full of action and moves at a steady pace. The movie did not feel rushed or lag at any point. The movie also has some comedy, with the many one liners and sarcastic banter. Some scenes may not be suitable for young children to see, as the movie is rated PG-13 for this very reason.
So Marvel Fans Assemble to your nearest theater and check out Infinity War for yourself. The epic battle is waiting for you to see.
