Everyone has something they're nerdy about... for some reason, mine is the eternal garbage heap known as The Sims. (See my personal blog and Custom Content at MyOnline-PityParty.tumblr.com).

Bullshit.
Martin Luther King isn't evidence that peaceful protesting works. He's evidence that even if you're peaceful, they'll still kill you.
The change wasn't in response to people listening to Martin Luther King. The change was in response to the riots that happened after he was murdered.
If you're able to command that protesters be peaceful, then you're able to command that the ruling class be peaceful. And if the ruling class were peaceful, the protests wouldn't exist.

I don't know why people assume some feud between lesbians and gay men. Especially when, with our powers combined, we can serve cunt in this home depot

This post STILL makes the rounds but I see the religious tradwife girls tagging it like "I love jesus!! Yes!!! So me!!!!!"
The thing in my ribcage could burst out at any moment and the one you refer to as god trembles in fear that it will
Me, trying to figure out what iced coffee i want before work: ...mocha?
The thing that's been clawing at the inside of my ribcage since I was 13: GOD IS REAL AND HE IS THE SPACE THAT EXISTS BETWEEN ALL THINGS. DO YOU HEAR THE DRUMS?
Me: i think.... french vanilla

Hello, all The Sims 2 lovers! I’d like to share something very personal with you.
Between 2006 and 2012, Sims 2 machinima thrived. Even the game’s creators supported fan-made videos, often featuring them on official platforms. One iconic element from that era was a memorable logo, along with a few downloadable songs and themes.
While working on the final episode of Esoteric Relation, I decided to recreate that famous logo almost frame by frame as a tribute to those creators. It was something very meaningful to me and brought back some of the best memories I’ve ever had with this amazing game.

Okay, now I'm thinking about it because of that last post. I'd love a Sims movie with emotional weight like Barbie had because that's so much more interesting that the normal movie tie-in cash grabs we normally get.
It would be really interesting to get a Sims movie that highlighted the cultural changes that we've seen since The Sims came out in the same way that the Barbie movie discussed feminism.
The Sims stands in a uniquely interesting place to make commentary about social change throughout the lives of its target audience, specifically, in a way that would really resonate. I mean, my average reader is likely the youngest of the Millennials to the oldest of Gen Z.
Like, I think that you could tell a really interesting story with The Sims as a film because of the way its audience connects with it. Plus The Sims is based on the same exact sitcoms that movies like Pleasantville criticize.
I think that watching the lighthearted and largely sanitized (especially in recent years) world of The Sims come apart at the seams as their world is changed by similarly disruptive cultural events would be really interesting. It would be especially interesting since most of The Sims' target audience lived similarly culturally disruptive events in quick succession around the time that The Sims was at its height of popularity. It would also be a great way at winning back the crowd since I think most can attest, the game that claims to reflect the lives of everyday people hasn't done a whole lot of reflecting lately.
I'm not going to write an entire essay, you can see the connections I'm trying to draw here.
You might say that's a LOT to expect from a video game tie-in film. Which it is, and it'll never happen. But Barbie showed that it can be done and it can be done very well.

Even a "The Barbie Movie" film would be better that what we'll likely get (If the film ever gets made) because that would require an open dialogue about The Sims' shortcomings as a piece of media. Like, a big part of the reason Barbie worked was because it really intelligently took risks with what it understood about the audience expectation of what the 'Barbie brand' is. It also specifically responded to cultural criticisms of Barbie that have existed for decades.
The Sims can't do that (even though it's in a similar cultural space as Barbie and would be a great candidate for it) because it would mean really uncomfortable questions about The Sims' brand that EA likely won't sign off on. Barbie worked as a film because Mattel put the artifice and politics surrounding the brand front and center.
As I said, The Sims could make a great film premise with emotional weight (think Barbie Movie meets Pleasantville) but if the film ever does come out I think it'll be cheap YouTube video parody levels of humor (Haha, they drowned and piss themselves!! Isn't that funny?) and/or broad nostalgia bait that fails to do anything other than point to The Sims and go "Oh shit, remember The Sims???"
i have no idea how a sims movie would work or what it would try to tell. Especially when sims 4 just reinforced that storytelling is not their forte lol. I just hope it's not terrible and sterile but the current state of media says otherwise (at least to me, maybe I watched the wrong movies lately but everything felt stale.)🪦 💔
Especially when the game used to be more... Raunchy? Is that the correct term? Not sure. You know what I mean right
Also y'all do NOT wanna hear my stance on the live streams. Everytime I watch a live it feels like my brain gave up midway through. No offense to the actress.
#The Sims#I've said it before and I will say it again#Sorry for the sudden wall of text but I have MANY feelings about the sims movie and The Sims as an IP

Also, no one appreciates the real estate that we lost to put things on top of computer monitors

Even old thick flat screens allow you to put SOMETHING up there. Not with the new ultra thin displays. : (

You forget that for much of The Sims original run in the 2000s, it was viewed almost entirely on Cathode Ray Tube monitors. While The Sims 2 looks just as good on modern flatscreens, I think that the original Sims actually really benefits from the blur and curvature of CRTs due to it using sprites.

Further Documentation of Sims 2 being an endless and vast chasm of depth
Toddlers literally get a "sugar high" and it's coded to increase their motives and make them perform random animations.
They can get this feature by licking up chocolate puddles made by the Cuisine career reward. Has to be used by a Sim with low Cooking skill to leave the puddles!
