While the majority of the interview does not contain any new information, here are translations of some interesting tidbits:

The mountainous landscape of Isayama’s hometown, Oyama, inspired the “wall” concept within SnK. When he was growing up there, he felt safe and secure within the mountains, but later in life, he desired to “escape” from it and experience the world outside.

An exact quote regarding the above: “I lived in my hometown until I turned 18, and that’s when I began to develop a ‘I must leave here’ type of mentality. I desired to ‘dwell in a world still unknown to myself.’”

In Isayama’s personal notebook from his middle school days, he wrote down that his future dream was to become an “owner of a scotch tape store.” If he could be reborn, he would like to be a “mammal” in his next life. His spirit animal was “shepherd’s purse” (This plant).

To Isayama, the overarching theme of SnK is to surpass strong repressions and break free of shackles.

When Isayama worked at the internet cafe, he encountered customers with bizarre personalities or weren’t able to converse normally with him - those became the model for his Titans. Similar to his canon creatures, they express all types of emotions on their faces but wander rather aimlessly, as if they were drunk. (T/N: This is something he has talked about in a previous interview).

The character Isayama personally thinks is most similar to himself is Daz (T/N: Another thing that he has talked about before).

On what kind of message he hopes to convey to readers, Isayama expresses that he simply illustrated his personal “frustrations” through the manga. With that said, he feels like he inadvertently transformed from victim to persecutor over the years. In terms of a story, there are always people who deem the protagonist’s actions to be correct, because the protagonist’s actions correspond to/overlap with these people’s own value systems. In Isayama’s mind, even though humans can believe that their own actions are correct, everyone can become a perpetrator/villain at some point (T/N: He has previously talked about this idea here and here).

On his life before leaving home: “Had I not [experienced that period of frustration], I would not have been able to create this manga. Not only that, there wouldn’t even have been a need to express these types of feelings. No matter what happens from now on, I will always feel like choosing the life of a mangaka was a wonderful decision.”

Right now, Isayama feels like “home” is a place he can return to. As long as that place exists, no matter what experiences he had or how cruel the outside world is, he can endure the hardships. “I think this is somewhere I can escape to.”

Isayama has already schemed the series’ ending. Whether for the readers or for the work itself, he hopes to finish SnK quickly.

News: SnK x Nissin Cup Noodle “Shingeki no Nazoniku” (”Attack of the Mystery Meat”) Collaboration

Release Date: June 2018 Retail Prices: 194 Yen Per Cup; 3,304 Yen Per Box of 20 Cups

Nissin Cup Noodle has announced new line of Cup Noodle flavors in collaboration with SnK! Going along with SnK’s theme, the collaboration is titled “Shingeki no Nazoniku”/”Attack of the Mystery Meat” and will feature three new flavors. The first is Smoky Chili Soy Sauce, with the other two yet to be announced.

Various parody videos featuring scenes from the anime + new dialogue from the characters’ seiyuu (All talking about “Mystery Meat”) are also available for viewing! They serve as funny commercials for the new Cup Noodles.

2.  Why did Eren's titan attack Mikasa during Eren's third transformation? At that time, why did he fail to understand and not recognize Mikasa when Mikasa called his name? We. . .  mark our words! " He also reaffirmed in CH. 77 that, "I promised to Ymir that I must get her out of the way.  Yes, it must be. " Will he fulfil his promise?

◆The Riddles of the Springer: 1. Will the way to turn Connie's mother back to normal be found? What's the method? 2. "I have to kill that Beast Titan," Connie said.   Will he do that? 3. Connie said he want to return the favor of Reiner and Annie.   When and how?

◆The Riddles of the Ackerman: 1. How did the Ackerman, a by-product of the Titan Research, come into being? 2. Some of the Ackerman had a moment.   A force suddenly awakened.  The powerful force suddenly gushed out of the body.  At that time, Ackerman knew exactly what to do.   Why did that happen? 3. Why can't king brainwash the Ackerman? How will it affect the future plot? 4. Levi promised Erwin to kill the Beast Titan.   Will he kill Zeke by himself?

When Mikasa suffers from the death of family member, or recalls the death of family members in the past, she always will have a headache, even feel pain from tattoo.   Why? (Is it because of memory?) 2. Why did the ancestors of Mikasa's mother come to Paradise? 3. There is a tattoo on the Eastern Nation people's right wrist.   What's the use of it? 4. Owl asked the hostile country to the east of Marley for help, pushed for the establishment of the place of exile.   Will the Eastern Nation help Eldians now? (CH. 87) 5. What role did the Eastern Nation play in history? What plot will be caused by the Eastern Nation?

And the blood and bones of titans, the memory and the will of someone can be sent through those paths.   Why is that?   Where do the blood and bones of titans come from? 2. Blood relatives have a much better chance of inheriting memories along with one of the nine titans.   How will this concept design be reflected in the future plot? 3. What's the use of coordinate in detail? 4. What effect will the concept design of paths have on the future plot? 5. Why is titan's only source of power sunlight? 6. Why is titan's body unusually light? 7. Why are there mindless titans? Do the pure titans have the possibility of regaining the power of thinking and communicating with human? 8. 15. Between the tales that Ymir Fritz made a contract with the devil of earth, and Ymir Fritz came in contact with the source of all living organisms, which is the original truth? 16. The top 10 of the 104th Cadet Corps that once appeared on the back cover, who among them will be alive still the end of story? 3. What's the meaning of some scenes in the ED02 of SE01? 4. What's the use of breaking apart and eating the carcass of Ymir Fritz on the plate by nine people? (in the ED01 of SE02) 5. Introducing the Kindle Oasis: The European Sports Car Equivalent of the E-Reader World

Today Amazon released the newest member of their e-reader line called the Kindle Oasis.  This newest Kindle aims to be the most luxurious, and most expensive, of the entire e-reader world.  It is super light (about a quarter of a pound!) and it comes with a built in accelerometer so the display orientation will flip depending on how you’re holding it.  The Oasis’ shape is a bit of a departure from the traditional Kindle body style, which seems to be causing quite a bit of chatter.  But the most shocking feature of this e-reader is the price: an eye watering $290!

To be honest I’m not sure why you would need such an expensive device that, despite all of its other upgrades, has the same screen as a Kindle Paperwhite.  This is clearly the e-reader for those who simply must have the best, no matter the cost.

The Qingming Festival is coming soon. According to the record, the custom of making Qingtuan青团 during qingming dates back to the Zhou Dynasty. Qingtuan is a kind of Qingming Festival food popular in the south of the Yangtze River, which is also a must-have offering at ancestral rituals. Qingtuan, or literally Green buns, are made of glutinous rice flour. With wormwood juice inside them, the dumplings appear green and bright with aromatic taste.
