so obviously it's worth mentioning how he had cut off his sister's talons on accident. oopsies !! obviously it wasn't his fault because he didn't KNOW that telling a clam to bite off his sister's talons would actually MAKE IT DO THAT, but Lagoon held it against him anyways because she knew he felt guilty. Lagoon told him he was nothing but a horrible monster, and he believed that.

So because she knew what he did, and held it over him, she dictated basically the entirety of the rest of his life. He made him marry and have dragonets so that she could use them the same way she uses him.

Everyone treats him as some horrible monster but I think he was literally just fed up with Lagoon's shit. He finally attacked because he was under years of abuse from Lagoon, and all that anger had gradually built up until that moment.
