Spider Mites on all of my Alocasia Plants.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
A Few Days Back, I Suffered Spider Mites on all of my Alocasia Plants. So Yesterday I went on research, why is happing only on alocasia plant.
I can say this alocasia is prone to spider mites. My 3rd plant got infected due to spider mites. Bugs usually form in wet, humid climates, but it is the opposite for spider mites; they form in warm- dry weather.
My first query was Where did spider mite come from? The answer to the question 1) I got was that they could come with new plants. 2) spider mites could get from underwatering. 3) Over-fertilization could be the reason.
How can you tell if your plant has spider mites? Spider mites are tiny to see from our eyes. All you can see is that weeping around the plants. It is a pattern of silver substance around the leaves and stems of your plants. Other Signs are brown spots on the plants. It is really hard to identify at the beginning of the infection. THAT'S THE SPIDER MITES.
Spider mites on Alocasia plants My plant started turning yellow; spider mites were getting all the good stuff from the leaf. Spider mites feed from the plant's leaves, which get a good amount of chlorophyll. So here it goes, Spider mites are a real problem for Alocasia plant, in future also I could find a spider web in the corners of the plants.
How many days do Alocasia plants severe After getting infected by spider mites? After spider mites attack the plants, they continue to damage your leaf from yellow to brown to leaf falling off. In my experience, it takes 14 days to destroy your plants. If you give the right treatment to your alocasia, it might survive; in most cases, they don't survive.
The next question was mine, and the answer I found is this.
How to treat spider mites on the plant?
1) Prune and isolate the plants Whenever you discover the web around your plant, isolate its first from other plants. And you can prune that leaf, so other leaves don't get infected. Immediately dispose of the infected leaf and clean your clippers. 2) Spray the plant-based miticides Pick up some commercially available miticides and search for organic ones that will leave your plant unharmed. 3) Make your herbal tea miticide You Need a mixture of 1 tablespoon powder cinnamon, one tablespoon ground clove, and two tablespoons of Italian seasoning. Boil in water, then take off the heat. Once it gets cooled, add two tablespoons of crushed garlic into it. Rest until cooled slightly and then strain. Now, add a few drops of dish soap liquid with your prepared liquid. Shake well and spray the underside of the leaf and all-over plants with your homemade miticide every three days for a couple of weeks. 3) Use neem oil to get rid of the infection. 4) Give a good Shower to your plants.
Now, Let's talk about prevention. 1) Spider mites love dusty leaves, so keep cleaning your alocasia leaves. No one wants to lose alocasia leaves; it's really hard to see new growth. 2) Keep humidity up since spider mites like dry, hot climates. So we can add peat moss to the soil to keep it moist. A humidifier also helps alocasia, and the last misting to your plant is also a great way to help. 3) If you are keeping Your plant outside before bringing your plant inside, don't forget to debug your plants.
So talking about my alocasia, all of my plants got infected. I could not understand when my first 2 of them got infected. Recently my 3rd one got infected, so I got that and shared everything with you, my friends.
Lastly, My first two alocasias have again bloomed and unfurled their leaves. And I am sharing the image for my 3rd infected alocasia with you guys. I have chopped the leaf for the 3rd one waiting for blooming.
Thanks for hearing me out till now.
