Jae wanted to move away but he couldn’t muster the strength or the balls. He recognized the other person as someone he would occasionally see around campus all those years ago, but he couldn’t put a name or mark to the face. It was his first interaction with casual human contact since Noelle bought him and every second made his skin crawl. But he didn’t want to make this weird or awkward, so he stood his ground, though his fingers did find it’s way to his mouth and he proceeded to bite at the short nails. He nodded but didn’t even attempt to convey any emotion. “Way too many people. It was just getting way too…” it took a moment for him to find the right words, as simple as they were. “Way too loud.”
It took Silas a moment to realize that his person was just as awkward as he was. He kept his distance and let out a long slow breath. “I know what you mean,” he agreed, reaching into his pocket and pulling out some gum. He offered some to the other person. “I’m Silas,” he said, “submissive.” He pulled his collar up so it was visible over his collar, and then looked toward the other to see if he could make out a collar or not.

Text: I hope all y’all don’t have plans Thursday mornin’. Elliott wants a play date with his girls and Ryley. Plus I’m sure him and Landon would love to catch up with everyone.

Text: Yeah me too. I feel like I don’t really fit in without a Nobel Peace Prize or something. Haha yeah that was amazing. #ghostsndragons trended. It was amazing to feel like we were really influencing people, you know? My Patreon’s almost up to the next level and that means were closing in on offering a second actual play Pathfinder podcast. So we should make sure we work out those details this week. Ugh yeah that guy was like 98 I swear. He barely seemed to understand what a podcast was and couldn’t not figure out why I needed the house cameras to project on the screen for the audience but didn’t need video recorded. I’m glad he’s gone.
Text: (Beau) Si-fi. I have boring business shit for you to sign off on for the collective. Plus some release forms for the live show in Chicago, if you can still do that with me this summer.
Text: Oh totally! Honestly, I’d love to hide out with you and talk business for awhile. And I’m absolutely in for Chicago. They’reg going to love a cross over show! Did we tell the venue that we did not want that same audio guy as the last time I was there because he screwed up all the audio and it totally fucked my storyline.

Toby laughed and nodded. “Yeah, he ages like fine wine. I swear he’s sexier in his thirties than he was in his twenties.” His smile faded a little though as Silas talked about himself. He grimaced in sympathy. “God, I can’t imagine living in that house. All those ridiculously talented people…” He shook his head, looking down. “No way around feeling like you get lost in the shuffle sometimes, I bet.” His thoughts went back to the text Silas had sent. That Nate wouldn’t notice he wasn’t there. “You know, if you ever need to just get out of there for a while, you could come visit Gunner and me in Texas. We’ve got a couple spare rooms. You could hang with us for a week or two. I could show you the center and everything.”
“I think you’re right!” He was genuinely impressed by his brother’s claim, but he didn’t want to seem too needy about it. Although, it seemed safer to talk about Gunner than his own clan. He swallowed back the distaste in his mouth. At least he knew he could always count on Toby to pick up on what he was saying without having to totally say it. “I knew what I was getting into. I guess I didn’t realize how much a kid changes things. It’s weird. They don’t seem to notice it that much. Like they can’t remember what it used to be like before Ryley.” He was mostly talking to himself now, it just felt good to say things outloud that he never could at home. “Yeah? You don’t think Gunner would mind? I could help you know, at the center. I could earn my keep. “

Silas had never been one for people and socializing with them. He loved New York City because he could be in a crowd and no one would talk to him or even acknowledge his existence. It was amazing. But small crowds like the ones that gathered around now to catch up and talk were exhausting to Silas. He’d snuck away, telling Nate he needed some fresh air for a while and shuffled along until he found a new secluded spot only to realize it wasn’t that secluded after all. He looked up and saw someone who seemed vaguely familiar but he couldn’t place. “Oh. Hey. Sorry...didn’t mean to ...intrude on your hiding spot. Too many people in there for you too? Feels like you have to have a Grammy or Oscar or Nobel Peace Prize to fit in in there.”
If Jae wasn’t trying so hard to make things better with Ferdi, he would have asked Noelle if he could stay back and opt out of his trip. Lima was the last city he wanted to be in and he could feel his chest constrict as soon as they landed and it only got tighter as they continued into town and towards the hotel. Just as he was starting to feel better, they made their way back to campus and Jae was left with an overwhelming feeling of dread. It only served to remind him of the time he made the worst decision of his life. A decision he was still paying for. He tucked his hair beneath the black hood of his sweater and made his way outside, hand dragging against the wall until he found a secluded spot to lean against the wall and collect himself. It seemed as though he wasn’t the only one with this same objective as someone came out just after him to do the same. “Oh, hey,” he greeted with a small voice.

Toby didn’t like the sound of that last message, but he tried not to read too much into it for the moment. Surely Silas just meant that with so many people in their family, it was fine for him to duck out for a bit. Toby grinned at his brother and hugged him tight. “It’s so good to see you,” he said as he squeezed him, and then pulled back to look at him. “I missed you too. Gunner’s good, and yeah, he’s taking care of me, don’t worry. He always does. What about you? How are things with your posse?”
Silas ran his hand back through his curls as he took in the sight of his brother. It was such a relief to see and hear Toby was safe and happy in his claim, but Silas would always worry. It was his job. “Ya look great, Tobes. And Gunner. Damn. He’s aging well, huh?” He chuckled and felt like he could breathe fully again. “Things are good,” he shrugged, “Ya know...Nate’s got his gold medals and retired from the whole Olympics thing. Ryan’s got her Grammy. Blaine’s the first sub to ever win a Tony for best actor. We’ve got Ryley and two more on the way. And seems like everyone else around here is just as successful,” he said, rather dryly. He’d always felt rather insignificant but this weekend was really stabbing that point home.

PM: Ya doin’ okay, Prince? i mean, ya can go, that’s fine. I just don’t wanna miss anythin’ here.
PM: I’ll be okay, Master. I just really miss him and I guess...it’s a little intimidating. Everyone seems to be crazy successful.
(From Silas) - May I go hang out with Toby, Master?
PM: Where are ya gonna go?

I’ll let him know. He’s so wrapped up in his own stuff he won’t care.
Ftf: “Tobes! God I missed you!” Silas said as he wrapped his arms around his brother. “How is Gunner? Is he taking care of you?!”

With the rest of his clan pursuing their dreams, Silas quietly finished college with a business degree and minor in communications. He’d always known that his dreams, as vague as they were, would have to take a backseat to Ryan’s, Nate’s and even Blaine and Sam’s. Once he was done with college he lasted a month before starting to lose his mind home with nothing to do.
A local comic book shop hosted table top games in the back and it was highlight of his week to go there and play in several different campaigns. In a few months he started running his own campaigns and with the time and money to really put his passion into it, the game got a bit of fame in the local community of gamers. People actually stared coming just to watch and listen. When a loyal fan couldn’t make it one week, Silas told him he’d record their session and this simple act sparked a chain of events that lead to Silas having his own podcast on his old friend Beau’s podcast network. He now runs two real time playthrough campaigns on his podcast with several local friends and the podcast’s popularity grows weekly. 6 months ago his Patreon subscribers blew up after a ad on itunes spiked his viewers. Two months ago he had his first live show at the Gramercy Theater and he plans to do more and maybe even take his show to other cities.
When he’s not working on his podcast, Silas plays uncle to Nate and Ryan’s daughter, Ryley. He never wanted children himself, but he loves being the fun playmate to the little girl and is often found playing pirates or fairies or whatever other make believe the girl wants to play. He’s a great narrator of their adventures together.
