hi folks,, I am still alive. I’m rlly sorry for the slow updates and not responding to many comments I got a little overwhelmed and couldn’t rlly look at HH for a little while

I think someone wrote a bad faith critique of HH, a little entitled and mean spirited about hiding an oc x canon fic as an x reader fic like I was doing it to fool people. I don’t like how they worded it. I blocked the person, didn’t interact just because I don’t want that opinion coming across my feed again and they noticed (and got offended?) and doubled down as if I did it intentionally.

and looking back, I can understand that it’s certainly developed a little off of what I started with but that really isn’t and never was the intention.

Angel is a nickname. I didn’t even come up with her appearance at all until chapter two because I was getting very into the visuals of what I was writing and wanted to make some art. But i didnt include it in the fic. I didn’t want appearance to have anything to do with it. Your only description is ‘pretty’. I don’t talk about Your size or Your hair or anything. I avoid size comparisons, swimming in Stanley’s clothes or whatever, looking so high up at him. I even got a comment about hair texture and whether or not Stanley should be able to run his fingers through all hair types, so I try not to have that in it either.

It was rlly important to me to have reader put themselves in Your shoes. That’s why Your thoughts are so present. “Angel” came to be because I thought it would be cheeky and offload a little some of the pressure of not having a big old “Y/N!” In the middle of a fic somewhere that for the most part doesn’t include any other lingo like that in it. I wanted it to read like a book. “Angel” is your favorite nickname. You could replace it with sugar, sweetheart, doll-face, anything Stanley could call you. This is a story I meant for people to be immersed in, to put yourself in the readers shoes. It is not an oc story.

I think most people with a brain would understand that just because a character does something you wouldn’t doesn’t make it any less of that. This isn’t a select your adventure. Or a one-shot where You don’t really need to be anything but present. I love those. They have their place. But In HH and any longer fic with any kind of substance, You have a set personality and backstory that have been interwoven into the multi chapter plot, because it would be fucking boring without that. So I don’t think this is the critique, although other people certainly did speak up about that. Good luck finding your perfect fic to those people who think they can manage it. It’s certainly not what I like to read.

Angel did kind of take a life of her own. Her appearance is linked to her character and how she interacts with the world in ways I decided against writing about, again, because it’s a reader insert. I draw her often. I don’t link the art I’ve done with her to the story in the text itself but I do link to fanart because i want to appreciate others work when others appreciate me. No where is it forcing people to see how ive chosen to depict hers.

When it comes down to it, I think the real valid critique was letting the name slip in too much. I got comfortable. I can see that. I can accept that. I’m editing it now to change that because ultimately I want to put out the best I can do. I know my work isn’t perfect, I get decision paralysis about everything and that makes it take so long to post. The critique could have come out better than thinking I’m some malicious person pulling wool over peoples eyes. If seeing a nickname in a fic really upsets you with the need to generalize and mischaracterize and name call someone posting their work online FOR FREE get ahold of yourself and touch some grass.

I had to draw Angel like this because the bunny symbolism has me obsessed?? like she keeps running, always on edge, always hiding—soft but scared, like prey. there’s so much going on in her head and the way it’s written?? incredible. i really hope we get more insight into that symbolism bc it’s so rich thematically.

also the dynamic between her and stanley?? two broken souls connecting in this raw, quiet way… it’s written SO well. her inner world feels so layered and fragile, it’s such a treat to read. this chapter especially was so tense and heavy, the way she’s just unraveling—i’m begging for more 😭
