The Pleasants: Part 3- Dads Home?
Tumblr media
I heard the car screech into the driveway while playing in the sandbox with Rosalie, it was dad! It had been less then 2 weeks, so seeing him again was the greatest surprise! He looked like he had come right from work; I guess he had to since it was a Thursday. I ran right up and gave him a huge hug. He smelled like sweat and something that you know is familiar, but can’t place. He called me “Axel Man” as he had since I was little, gave me a smile and asked where mom was. I told him inside, confused how he wouldn’t know. Then saw Faith step out of his car with a smile on her face.
“Hello sweet Alexander, how was the rest of your night?” She said without breaking her smile, an odd question to ask seeing as she was there.
“It was fine ma’am, thank you for asking.” I politely said as I walked away. She seemed annoyed that I turned around but who the heck is she anyways.
I suddenly remembered I had left Rosalie in the back on her own! I ran back to make sure she wasn’t eating any sand, mom gets furious when she does. She was just playing on her slide, but I could hear mom and dad arguing. It was odd, I am almost 13 and can’t recall them ever fighting.

The Pleasants: Part 2- Confusion
*Sorry no photos this time, I am writing this already pretty heavily through the storyline*
Mom came and woke me up in the middle of the night almost a week later holding a sleeping Rosalie, she didn’t say much but whisper “quietly now…we’re going home” I thought we were home, as someone who was woken up in their bed would. It wasn’t until I was being pulled down the stairs I realized she meant home as in the planet she was born on. I had never been there, just heard her stories about falling in love with dad, and him never wanting to go back. I wondered if he was meeting us there. Maybe I’d finally meet my grandparents! However, mom stopped in her tracks halfway down the stairs when she saw Faith standing at the front door with a smirk on her face “He told me you’d do this”
Mom was furious to say the least. We all slept in her bedroom that night with the door locked. I didn’t know what was going on, but mom is generally cool, calm and collected, this time she definitely was not.  As I was falling asleep all I saw was mom pacing the room a million times, I wondered if I should stay awake with her, but I woke to the sun gleaming through the shades and mom no where in sight. I ran downstairs and saw mom on the back porch talking to someone. I don’t know who, as she hung up quickly when she saw me. It wasn’t odd that Faith wasn’t around; she regularly slept until noon, sometimes even later.  Moms worry seemed less now, like whatever had bothered her the night before was gone. She looked at me softly for a minute before saying she had made pancakes. I thought she would tell me something, anything, that would make last night make sense, but she just smiled and went on with her morning. I wondered if she thought I wasn’t old enough to handle it. I was almost a teen, and as half alien she knew I was smart, I got that from her. She knew that we both had the ability to read body language, and occasionally thoughts, but I knew better than to ask questions. I ate my pancakes in silence, and went outside to make sure the garden was clean and swing on the swings.

The Pleasants: Part 1- The Backstory
Tumblr media
That’s me: Alexander. I’m the small alien child. I lived a pretty normal until a little while ago. My dad decided to join the military, and was sent off to fight some plant in Strangerville. He had to leave my mom and me behind in Oasis Springs, for obvious reasons (when you’re fighting a strange alien plant, having aliens show up doesn’t seem like the most ideal thing) Dad came back as often as he could, mostly on random Sundays here and there. We got a whole weekend once! Which was great until a few weeks later and mom told me I was getting a sister…boom. My life as an only child was gone. I can’t complain though. Rosalie isn’t to bad, we’ve gotten a lot closer since Dad came home, and the strange followed him.

Dad came home for a long weekend again a few days after Rosalie’s birthday, this time he brought his friend Faith.  She was nice enough, younger than mom, and a human. Mom always said Dad was too smart for people of this planet. She seemed to be about 19, not super pale but definitely didn’t come from the island. She had long straight blonde hair that went way past her shoulders. We didn’t spend much time with her, but mom seemed angry the whole weekend, Rosalie and I spent most of the time outside in the back trying to make sure the garden dad made years ago stayed alive. I could hear mom and dad talking, but couldn’t make out any of the words. I saw Faith there to, which was odd. Mom and Dad never let us around during important discussions, and she doesn’t look that old.

Dad bid us all farewell on Sunday night as usual, except he left Faith with us, which was not usual. Dad never brought friends home, and certainly wouldn’t leave any that he did with us while he left for work again. Mom didn’t say anything to her though, but started boxing up our house. I kept asking her where we were going, but she wouldn’t answer. Faith didn’t say much just sat around watching TV and playing on the computer. Maybe it’s the half alien in me, but she didn’t seem to be a very smart or productive person. I got more done in an hour or two then she did in days. Either way, it was a fun adventure to have a new person in the house. Mom continued packing, and the rest of us went on our daily tasks.
